Mario Kart 8 releasing in May 2014!

I was expecting it for spring...So nothing in between DK and MK from Nintendo?

First of all, Anathema rule!!

Secondly, this is a disaster. I have quite a few games on backlog, and March I will be on my Dark Souls trip, but in my eyes, this is just so embarrasing.

For a new console, that is trying so hard to gain some momentum, this drought is more than unacceptable..

Sorry to bump this thread but I didn't really find it thread worthy.
GameXplain made an amazing new video covering a bunch of new details hiding in the trailers.

Mario Kart 8 Video Analisis 2.4.2014
And thanks to Dreamy Luigi for the list of covered stuff

Dreamy Luigi said:
Notes in the video:
-Items are now held by characters when you get one, but can still be dragged
-Triple Sets of items might not return, unless they are juggled like in Mario Kart Double Dash when they are in stock
-Islands in Background in Sunshine Airport are similar to the ones in the opening cutscene off Super Mario Sunshine
-A Dolphin advertisement in the San Francisco Track (2nd Demo Course) could mean that track might be Dolphin Shoals, and the ad also had "Super Marine World", a pun on Super Mario World, it could be the Water Park track seen in an ad in Sunshine Airport
-Names of Airlines in Airport track could mean new items.
--PTT (Propeller Toad Transport); Propeller Mushroom
--BBIA (Boomerang Bros International Airline) Boomerang Flower seens in Super Mario 3D Land/World.
---Also, BBIA could mean Hammer Bro will be in the game *looks at Flammie*, since Galaxy Air is based on Rosalina (or... Luma *looks at myself*), and PPT is based on Toad.
-A Convener Belt in the Airport that serves as a hazard could mean Toad's Factory from Mario Kart Wii returns as a retro course, since they both have convener belts. MKW Mario Circuit and GCN Mario Circuit in MKW both had Chain Chomps
-A Possible Logo in Sunshine Airport looks like the Gearmos from Super Mario galaxy, could mean he is a playable character.
-With the same ads appearing in different tracks, the devs are working hard on the tracks, making it feel like an interconnected world.
-Bone Dry Dunes layout is more clear, and this track could mean Dry Bowser & Bones returns
-there are 2 routes in the Airship on Cloudtop Cruise
-Rosalina lacks a Luma, like in Mario Kart 7 *looks at all of you*
-Small Flying Robots like things could be invisible boundaries while gliding.

I don't remember people talking about it: it seems they added a tire mark effect on the ground when vehicles are drifting.

Great boxart.

The way Nintendo spaces out their releases though, I'm starting to think all the games that have been announced are also all the games that will be released for the system period (and I'm not even sure about SMTxFE). I can't fault them either, releasing Zelda U would be madness with such a small install base. In between X, Bayo, Hyrule W, Smash, Sonic and Yoshi, if they space them all three months apart, we're talking end of 2015, beginning of 2016 here. And 2016 will bring the successor.

The last year of major/consistent home console support Nintendo saw was 2010. So we're soon reaching a 4 year drought. Congrats, Iwata. So much for keeping momentum, lol.

That's not quite true. They published quite a lot in the last half of 2013 - New Super Luigi U, Pikmin, Wind Waker, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Party U, Wii Fit U, Wonderful 101, Mario & Sonic at Sochi Winter Olympics (published by Nintendo not Sega), not to mention Wii Sports Club. The only problem is they will now go sleep again for another few years.

So, Gearmo might be the Honey Queen equivalent for this game?

I think most of those details are there just to look cool.
The "items" logos in Sunshine Airport, convener belts almost confirming Toad's Factory
Or Luma being in the game because he's not with Rosalina.

Anyway, I don't think Gearmo is going to be playable but... Nintendo had the balls to include Honey Queen, Lakitu and Metal Mario in MK7 so anything can happen :p

Dammit, that pretty much confirms that Smash won't be here until fall. I might as well get rid of my system now while I can still get money for it and maybe pick one up again at the end of the year.

what the hell is "gamepad profile to be increased?"

Increased focus on implementing the gamepad features into gameplay, more than likely. After all, DKC:TF does absolutely nothing on the gamepad screen. It's blank. They may also advertise it's features more to help it stand out against the X1 and PS4.

Simply put: they're going to give more focus to the gamepad.

Cool, thanks for the answer. Here's hoping that applies to Zelda U too :)

It's nice to see that Nintendo considers Rosalina important enough to be one of only six characters on the box art.

Good box art overall. I think I'd prefer more characters though, perhaps lesser known ones. It's basically the four staple characters there: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser. The other two you have to squint your eyes to see.

A nice change from the plain white backgrounds, anyway.

Looking forward to it.

Hope it's not broken online. In my last Mario Kart online experience, people kept playing the same track that had an exploit to reach the end very quickly.

WuHu Island in MK7? That got patched.

Every once in a while, I see people still try that shortcut and it cracks me up every time.

I mean, you would think they heard about it by now.

I also like the feeling of them thinking "hey, look at those suckers going along as normal, I know this cool secret that has been out there for ages".

Dumbasses.

Damn, why is it so hard for platform holders to have atleast one game a month for their platforms? You have the money, use it dammit!

Man Mario looks pissed, probably not happy with the U sales. I mean he's never looked particularly happy on the Mario Kart covers except for the original but this one looks particularly angry.

His eyes are starting to look like that really creepy real life rendering of Mario.

Just me, but this cover makes me feel like the team is going all in on this one. That and the whole "grand culmination of all the previous Mario Kart games" (Hideki Konno) thing they're going with.

Yeah, someone or something pissed Mario off. XD Don't think I've seen him look this mad since the Strikers days, lol.

The updated logo looks nice too. Black border, and a sleeker, shinier "8".

For those wondering, this pic came from Mario Wiki, whose source was a tumblr account. Honestly, not sure where they get half of the artwork in their gallery.
