Can anyone recommend a watercooled laptop? Budget is around $1000
The HP configs confuse me..
4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710HQ Quad Core Processor + Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600
4th generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4510U Dual Core Processor + Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400
But the Dual Core is more expensive.
Isn't it a step down? The voltage is lower, but so is perf..
So, I am going to college and I am looking for laptop around 800 dollars / 700 euros. I am using my current laptop (Asus K50IP) mostly for internet, movies and for some video editing from time to time. What I want from my new laptop is ability to play Dota 2/CIV 5 in decent graphics and framerate along with good battery life. So Gaf, can you give me some advice?
Screen - 15,6
Ram - If possible 8gb
So my wife has decided to get a surface pro.
I am now choosing one for her.
I5-intel HD4600
Vs
I7-intel HD5000
I believe.
Do you guys think the boost it good enough considering I7 cost few hundred bucks more as well as may have overheating issue?
Maybe using it to play diablo3, dota2, archeage. Dont mind lowest setting with acceptable framerate 24-30fps.
Country where it will be purchased: US
Maximum Budget: $1500 (preferably less, but this is the absolute maximum)
Size: 15" or lower. Also would like it to be lightweight.
Planned usage: Mainly college, some gaming. Don't really care about maxing out anything, just something fairly capable that can at least run most games at decent framerates at medium or so settings. Also would really prefer an SSD, at least 256GB.
Simple. Intel overcharges for the dual core, to take advantage of the uninformed.
Country would help a bit.
HD5000 is not worth hundreds more.
New cards are being announced next week. Wait.
What specific Sager and GPU did you have?Hey K.Jack,
Thank you for this great resource you have created! I don't think I've posted in these threads but I've been reading them off and on for a couple of years.
My GF just got into Marvel Heroes and is in the market for a new gaming laptop. I haven't kept current on mobile graphics etc. since I bought my Sager a few years ago. It was a great machine but the video card went out three times, the final just as it exited the one-year warranty. So, I'm a bit gun-shy about buying Sager/Clevo again, at least without a 3-year warranty.
Couple of questions for you (or anyone else who knows):
1. New video cards are being announced next week - how long until we can buy a laptop with one of them in it? We don't mind waiting a short amount of time if it makes sense, but her need to play MH is getting pretty urgent, so a month wait might not work.
2. We're trying to stay around $1200, but going up to $1500 might be doable. Any quick suggestions for something with an i7, good graphics, and 256GB SSD? Oh, and it must have a matte screen.

As far as #1, I can't say when they'll be out, only that you should hold off until the announcement, then decide whether you can wait as long as they say it'll be before the cards find their way into machines.
#2? With such a budget, a mid-level MSI or Sager machine would be best.

Link me to some web stores from your region and I'll find sometthing.
Thanks for the response! I had a NP8150/P150HM with a Radeon 6990m. I mean, technically I still have it but it's a paperweight without a functional video card. It was an amazing machine while it lasted - biggest takeaway for me from the experience was to never buy a gaming laptop without an extended warranty.
Thx, btw you don´t have to look for it on our websites, basically everything in UK/Germany is also available here. (just to save you from possible translation problems)Ah, yes, the AMD 6900Ms were absolutely plagued with failures. That's not an indictment on Sager at all, as droves were failing in Alienwares as well. I still have an NP9170 w/ 6970M, but I retired it to being a storage backup, from the fear of the card dying.
You are accurate on your takeaway. In these threads I have always been a huge proponent of the two year warranty. It only makes sense to invest the extra $79 (in Sager's case) for your $1k+ purchase, because laptops have a funny way of failing the day after 1 year.
The good thing about MSI's gaming laptops is that their standard warranty is 2 years + 1 of accidental. I have been recommending their machines over Sager for close to a year now. When I bought the GT70 last year, it really opened my eyes to how Clevo cheaps out on the little things.
brb taking a look

800 euros is my absolute maximum - I would prefer something around 700 euros which is about 18 000 (18k) Czech Crowns. But what is 800 Euros in your native currency?

That Asus looks interesting. Thank you, one last thing. Can you tell me what res&details can I achieve with it in Dota 2?
How long after a supposed announcement of the 900M series should we expect them to hit the market? (esp. in Clevos) Or, how long after it can we expect the 860M to drop in price (if that even happens?)
I am starting studies in the 22nd of September and I'd like to have ordered the laptop by then (most probably from PcSpecialist). My max budget is already stretched to 750 gbp, so I'll be going for a 860M anyways. Should I wait?
edit: also, what other shops should I look at in the UK for laptops and electronics? Is there a meta-site/database for comparing prices?
edit2: are we expecting anything new in the 860M pricepoint, or just 870Ms(probably 970) and 880Ms (probably 980) Maxwells?

Most of 800M was rebrandsm and Nvidia is skipping the 800 moniker on the desktop side. Are 900m cards actually hitting soon? 800m was released like six months ago and the desktop line hasn't even reached 800 yet...
Look at this thread for a full list of seller in the UK.
We are expecting 980M, 970M, and a 960M or 950M. But the details may be known next week.
Thanks for that, but I was asking for other stores/sites as well, not Clevos only, to see what other options may be available.
If I know NVidia well enough, they will release a 960M as well, identical to the 860M, maybe a bit faster but more expensive, and the 970 and 980 will be even more expensive..
October is a bit late for me. Do you think that PcSpecialist will honestly answer me about something like this?
Conflicted between a Clevo W230SS, Asus UX303LN and the Aorus X3. But my god, I'm really getting sick of slow releases. First the UX303LN getting delays upon delays, with only certain specific configurations per area, now the Aorus getting released country by country.
I'll wait and see what the deal is at the end of this month. Whats with the new Clevo edition rumors btw? Could that also mean the looks are getting updated? The thickness and the uglyness of the W230SS is really holding me back on it. It being completely black instead of the silver touches would improve it immensely already.
Uh, hmm that's tough, depending on what games you need it to run. You talking $400 flat? I'm pretty certain this holds the most GPU power down there.Help! I need the best gaming laptop that I can buy with only a measly $400. Is this even possible?
Hey all-knowing GAF, my wife's computer has died and is in need of a laptop. She is a writer and will be using it for 95% MS Office and web browsing . Reliability is at the forefront here and a screen size between 15-17".
Budget is up to $1,000 AUD. We're located in Australia.
Cheers.

Do we know anything about GTX 960M and 950M? I hope those won't be rebranded 8x0 cards.

Wow!
I don't exactly have a notebook in mind, but she'd like a thin and light with an IPS display and a good keyboard.

damn
any laptop have this ?
bit off topic, but in a sager np8258-s, how difficult would it be to upgrade to the 980m from my 880m? (assuming they announce the 900 series soon and they're the same size and all that)
Thoughts on this?
Looking to play older games, NBA2K, newer indie games, possibly Diablo 3 running without issue.
Does anyone have any size comparison pictures with the Clevo w230SS (Sager np7338 / XMG p304)? I really want to compare the thickness with other 2/2,5cm laptops, so I can see how 'ugly' it will be. Can't find any comparisons besides the one video from htwingnut, but thats compared to other Clevos.
I worry about that as well, but from the video's I've noticed that the fan noise is not an annoying high pitched one. Since I have no issues with underclocking the bunch to keep temps down and battery up, and only use full power when I really need it, I'm thinking that the fans might not be that big of an issue.I don't know of any other good comparison.
To me, the bigger issue than size is how loud and often the fans run.

And didn't changing the profile to quite, and temp control to passive remove the issue of the fans spinning up randomly while doing low load work? I guess unnecessary fan noise would be my main worry in this regard?
Asus G751 w/ i7-4860HQ and GTX 980M. Coming in 15 and 17 inch flavors.
You sure about that?Asus G751 w/ i7-4860HQ and GTX 980M. Coming in 15 and 17 inch flavors.
Maybe it's just me, but looks like the wrong link?
The MSI Stealth slimbook-sized laptops get the 970M maybe (or other similar sized laptops)? Or is that out of the question for them. I'm still up in the air where I'm going to go for my next PC/laptop, but having something really light and portable that has some kick does appeal to me.
You sure about that?
The guy says 860M, and it's also what it says when it focus on the feature list written behind the laptop.
Ok, fair enough, I just found weird that they'd specify such a model instead of something vague like "nVidia Geforce GTX Graphics" as the one next to it does.Should've been this vid
From what I'm told, they can't show it has the GTX 980M, because Nvidia hasn't announced the card yet. But I know it has a GTX 980M because this leaked benchmark was run on it. Score is almost 50% higher than a GTX 880M.
