alcohol is probably worse but

alcohol is better than weed
The two in combination can be a great thing. But the effects are quite different when taken alone. Obviously it comes down to personal preference.

Health wise, alcohol is so much worse than weed it's ridiculous. It's indisputable. That said, I'm all for things like alcohol and weed being equally acceptable in society. Those of us who use responsibly can really benefit from the freedom.

Based on what I gather from the news and events that affected friends and family, all I need to say is that no one kills entire families in vehicular accidents from Marijuana.

I hear most people who've never done shrooms say you see colors and shit. I was surprised to find out that you (in a way) do in fact see weird colors.

Heroin and cocaine were still being used as parts of patent medicines when that film was made. They weren't demonized that much due to being part of the public consciousness for so long. Weed on the other hand was not consumed in the amount that it is now, it was rather rare, but often used by Mexican immigrants and later hippies. That's what led to the extreme crackdown on pot. Due to people's relatively low knowledge of the drug, fear and propaganda campaigns like "Reefer Madness" worked partially in turning the public against a rather innocuous and possibly beneficial plant.

Getting stoned out of my gourd yields much milder side effects than getting drunk off my ass. I'll be pretty quiet and reflective if I smoke too much, but if I drink too much, I'll wake up the next morning with the worst thoughts.

Weed hangover: "Man, maybe I should change something about myself. Also my nose is stuffy."
Alcohol hangover: "Boy, I'm pretty sure my friends hate me, I'm a burden on my parents and
I wonder if I could theoretically hang myself with my bathrobe sash
. Also I'm thirsty."

I can't speak for society. Alcohol is worse for me, at least.

i knew a guy who played the guitar. i got him to smoke some weed. he picked up the guitar and started playing it, and said,

"this is the most music I have ever made in my entire life."

Alcohol, im my mind. No doubt.

Can't stand the smell of that stuff either, especially from people's breath. Weed I have found to be much more fredinlier to my senses.

First time I got legit drunk was in 8th grade, but I started drinking habitually when I was 18, and by 19 I was drinking almost everyday. I'd say I was physically addicted by 21, meaning I would withdrawal without it. I quit when I was 26.

How much did you drink a day? I imagine a lot to get liver disease though I realize everyone is different.

there are thousand of things you can do with alcohol, every country you'll visit probably has their local drinks

and then there's weed

you know you don't need to destroy your liver to appreciate alcohol

I don't get it, what are these thousands of things to do with alcohol and what makes you think you can't do similar things with marijuana?

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.
Alcohol is definitely more dangerous and worse for society.

If one wants to believe that we live in a society that is designed to control you, then Marijuana is to be considered the more dangerous to society. Alcohol makes you stupid, we have only been conditioned to believe that weed makes you stupid. From my own personal experience, I believe I have a heightened sense of awareness to the things around me be it the people I'm around, the words I'm reading, the things I'm hearing, the things I see.

Of course with anything too much or too little and your not getting the big picture.

Have you ever listened to stoner philosophy while sober? Weed makes you stupid. (temporarily)

It's hard to say because it was a gradual increase, but towards the end I was drinking a litre of Smirnoff 100 proof vodka a day or the equivalent. Actually, I switched to Sobiesky in my last year of alcoholism because it wasn't as strong (80 proof), and I thought that would be better for my health. That's how fucked I was in the head at the time.

Of course some days I would drink more, but almost never less than that.

Because alcohol is deeply ingrained in many cultures. It's a socialization tool as much as it is reflective of cultural sensibilities.

It's more that those people weren't philosophers to begin with and smoking weed didn't suddenly change that. Stoned philosophizing with people actually into philosophy is a lot more cogent and interesting.

So what? At the end of the day no matter what type of beverage you consume it in it is a drug giving off the same effects with ethanol. Some parts of certain cultures are also alcohol free.

For me:

Alcohol:

- Costs more $$$
- You have to ingest empty kcal
- The taste is often meh like vodka and such, some beers are quite good.
- The high is great but the hangover can be a bitch sometimes
- You are bound to get dat rubber dick or alcohol dick as they say.
- You may vomit before, during or after sleep.

Weed:

- Cheap AF (at least here in Brazil)
- Sure you get the munchies and eat a ton but you can just bulk on chicken if you want dat protein.
- Use a vaporizer (a cheap 20usd one from china - Hebe Titan 2 with a glass pipe) so its very easy and you can smoke anywhere.
- Me and my girl get high with just 2 puffs each. Did I tell you how much cheaper it is?!
- No hangover
- Sex reaches new levels of awesome (its like viagra for me)
- You sleep like a goddamn baby
- You wake up feeling just great.
- Seriously, its SO CHEAP!

Me and my girl usually smoke weed once a week, usually on saturdays or fridays. Some weekends we go out for some drinks.. but weed is most of the times, always the best decision.

Alcohol.

Used in moderation it can be a fun little diversion, but it's easy to abuse, and it can bring out the worst in people.

Weeds "Ayy lmao" the drug. Can be a simple high, or an epiphany.

I definitely have a preference.

Do you have source for that? Can't find anything about it

I think they're both terrible recreationally, but marijuana has more medicinal uses and is less harmful.

For society, alcohol. As it's been said, it brings out the worst in people.

For me personally... physically it's certainly alcohol, but mentally I'm not so sure. After about 13 years of usage (mostly on-and-off, but with longer periods of daily usage in between), I'm starting to view THC in a less positive light. I'm an addictive personality, so moderate consumption doesn't really work for me. The problem is that marijuana is very compatible with everyday life. When I'm smoking weed every evening, I am still able to go to work the next day, do the most important chores and so on, but I will not be able to deliver the same performance at work as if I were sober, I become negligent regarding chores because of laziness, etc. Also I feel like I get emotionally numb during long-term usage, which I really don't appreciate anymore.

With alcohol, this consumption pattern wouldn't even be possible because I feel like crap the day after drinking, even if it's just 2-3 beers. It's kinda self-regulating. I wish you'd get bad hangovers from THC ;)

Wow, people here really think booze is worse for society than Thor 2? I'm surprised, Gaf. We must be softening up on that film after all this time.

Alcohol, other than intoxication, ruined my family and my mom's life and her dad's life before her and many of my friends and family of friends.

Weed, other than intoxication (which is much less uncontrollable than alcohol) causes people to be lazy, which unless you're just really lazy, does not actually force you to be lazy. You can just....get up. And stop being lazy.

So it's a no brainer for me.

Alcohol is worse, but I smoked weed for a long time and I know of a few casualties so it is not entirely without its own problems. I have two friends who ended up needing psychiatric treatment as a result of smoking way too much.
To be clear: cannabis only expedites a pre-existing disposition to bipolar or schizophrenia. It's not the cause.

There's plenty of evidence to rally against alcohol. It's total poison. The science vs. antidotal evidence in the thread is funny. Here's my antidotal evidence: alcohol has caused my friend to beat his girlfriend. A drunk driver crashed into my friends car and he's paralyzed in a wheelchair for what is very likely a lifetime duration. When I was 10, my dad died in a car accident after drinking too many beers. Weed? Helps muscle pains. Reduces sismetic episodes. Helps sleep. Appetite. Creative insight. There's really no discussion to be had here.

Alcohol in small quantities is good for you. Marijuana in small quantities is bad for you. Alcohol in large quantities is very bad for you. Marijuana in large quantities is bad for you.

Nearly everyone who smokes weed daily has problems. Only a very small amount of people who drink daily has problems.

So, it depends.
