Are you embarrassed of being a gaffer?

Nope. Don't need to hide anything from anyone. But honestly what I love about this place this place is that when a fellow gaffer is down everyone comes in to help in one way or another.

No, I'm proud about being part of one of the best online communities. This is like a heaven from everything on the internet.

This. I find other online communities almost unreadable with the amount of vitriol that is allowed to spread unchecked. GAF strikes an almost perfect balance between fair moderation and open discussion.

Too far along in life to give a damn one way or another if someone knows.

If it comes up, great. If not, great.

Some GAFfers I've met with turned out to be pretty darn fun, cool, sane, people. Nothing embarrassing about that.

no and people are generally aware about things like reddit where you can get a lot of info from so it's not like the don't understand

Nobody really knows what the hell GAF is outside of GAF posters, banned former GAF posters, and various outlets in game's media. My casual gaming friends, family, and workmates sure as hell don't have any sort of knowledge of the site's existence, let alone any type opinion that would cause me to feel embarrassment for visiting.

Why would you ever be embarrassed?

I can understand being private about your online activities, but GAF is family, be proud of us ;P

Nope. I've even brought it up once to a guy I had a conversation about games with at work, and turned out he lurks.

No. I tell my fiancée about the dumb things GAF says, also the funny things. Nobody else knows you exist.

(Embrace the existential crisis.)

No, but I rarely talk about it or bring it up to people who don't know the website.

I met my bf on GAF so that's literally the only time it's in conversation to non-gaffers.
I just say I get him on a video game forum and don't mention it by name. (Of course he's embarrassed by this. :p)

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.
No.

It is weird how it seems like nobody in the real world uses GAF. They're all like, "what's GAF?" or "I read it for news sometimes but that's it," or "Don't you need a paid e-mail to sign up? lol what a bunch of elitists"

My friends and family refer to GAF as my nerd forum.

Are they wrong though? :p
Same with my family and friends.

I actually met one of my bestest best friends IRL through GAF (my fellow Yakuza & Souls/Bloodborne superfan), so no shame here. Hope the feeling is mutual. :O

He wasn't alone.
Them "Hey whatcha reading?"
Me "uhh, uhh, *pause* porn, it was porn." *closes quickly*
Them "ohh... ooookay"

Me wipes sweat from brow, "whew"

Not really, but it has never come up before. No one cares where I got the information. And most of the gaf threads are cited from other sources. It's always, "oh ya?, I read that so&so did xxx too"

My girlfriend asks if I have any friends on "Nat Geo" and I don't know if I should feel happy or sad that nobody knows who I am.

I wear video game and streaming related shirts to work, play video game handhelds in any lines I'm waiting in, and adorn my walls with anime paraphernalia. Being a member of GAF is one of the least "embarrassing" things I do.

Once I went into high school and somebody had made posters with a picture of my face next to a post I made talking about how much I loved No Man's Sky.

I had to change schools.

I don't know anyone who's into gaming who cares about forums. people are unaware enough that I'll just generically call GAF "The Internet". so like "The Internet thinks Horizon: Zero Dawn is a cool game". any more specific and I think their heads would explode (note "The Internet" is distinct from Reddit and social media and could include other forums I use)

No, but I keep it on the down low. GFs usually know it as a forum.

If I see another gaffer, I may ask "How much does a tasty Italian meal cost?" ;) or just keep quiet but have a lot more respect for them.

No...
A Gaffer?.. I visit Gaf a lot. But i wouldn't call myself a gaffer.
And people who know me know i post there.

Why would you be ashamed of that?

Nope. I wore my GAF tshirt to the store a few times. I had a cashier ask me what it was. I said it was a video game forum.

I don't get why people get embarrassed. Who are you hiding from? It always makes me think you're scared of your neighbors or you don't want the trendy fit adults knowing what your hobby is. It is nobody's business, but it's also nothing you should be ashamed about.

I usually make it a short discussion if someone asks. All it is is a question.

No? Why would I be? Why would I even tell someone what websites I go to regularly anyways?

"Oh hey Tim did you see the big story on NEOGAF.COM? NEOGAF.COM has all the hot new tips, Tim. TIM I'M TELLING YOU ABOUT NEOGAF.COM HOME OF GAMING NEWS WHY DON'T YOU EVER LISTEN TO ME, TIM!!!!"

No? Most people I know spend their time flooding social media with vanity posts all trying to one up each other's lives and look better than one another amidst a sea of misguided political bullshit. I'd feel more embarrassed to be one of them personally.

those big meanies on youtube hurt my feelings when they call me names for being a gaffer :'(

Fuck em who gives a shit

Actually come to think of it I think the only time I even mention NeoGAF in real life is when I show my wife a thread that I think will eventually land a Gaffer on the news, of which there have been a few.
