Are you embarrassed of being a gaffer?

Not really, but sometimes the corporate cheerleadering in the gaming side can be a bit embarrassing. It's weird to see people congratulate companies on making money or thanking them for PR.

No, but I also don't really consider my identity as a "Gaffer." I post on a forum when I have some time, sure. But I don't really consider it core to my identity to talk about it when I'm with anyone. Not because I'm embarrassed, but because it's just not that central.

Being part of GAF is basically the only thing I'm proud of.

So no, I am not embarrassed. It's all I have.

No.

I know 2 kinds of people 'IRL':
1. Most people don't even know what gaf is
2. Those that do, are gaffers themselves, or spend their time on equally embarrassing places (Reddit,4chan,etc)

I've never met someone who cares about what I do on the internet. At best other dudes might compare what porn sites they use, but I've never once had someone ask me what sites I use or even care to look at what I'm looking at.

I don't go out of my way to tell people I browse GAF, but I'm not embarrassed of being a gaffer. It's not like it's 4chan or anything.

Not at all. Sometimes my wife will see me reading and ask me what the skinny is in gafland and I read some of the stuff and we make fun of certain posters.

Ohhh how we laugh.

maybe ten years ago I was embarrassed of going on forums. I also didn't keep it secret, I was on them because of friends in real life, but I wouldn't go out of my way to volunteer that info ever and generally thought it was an odd habit.

then as the years went on I realized just about every single person I knew was deep in some tumblr or reddit or pinterest or etc etc community. from my vantage point forums themselves have seemed to not just stay alive alongside new discussion forums, but have kinda specialized and then seeped into the mainstream/been normalized. like, my brother now posts on a forum dedicated to keeping and maintaining corals.

Nope, It's one of the more respectable and mature sites I post on.

One site I go to has so much political baiting it's gotten ridiculous. It's pretty much taken over the GD forum.

My wife almost died when I read her Mandrake's summary of the guy who was talking about banging a stripper or something. When it got to the "Look you little bitch" text there were tears.

It's like being a member of secret club; prolly interact with other Neogaffers all the time in real life and I don't even know it.

No.

Most of the people I talk to don't know what NeoGAF is, and the ones that do don't really give two shits about whether or not I post here.

Do you guys ever look up at the moon on a cloudless night and feel a deep sense of unity with all the Gaffers out there under the same glow? It puts me at such peace. Being part of the great whirling universe can be scary. We are so insignificant and so small. But being part of GAF makes me big. It makes me matter. And someday, my son, Evilore Bishop, will know his place in the cosmos by his namesake.

Fuck. Now I'm cryin'. lol I love you guys so much. I hope they bury me here.

No.

And I'm fairly sure nobody I know knows what a NeoGAF is apart from my wife, and she calls it NatGeo lol

No with the exception of the time around the PS4 reveal when this place turned into Sony troll Central for a few months.

Days before the reveal I had told a bunch of coworkers that I didn't know that well about GAF as we were talking about gaming and how it was a " mature" gaming site.

Got some funny looks after that.

On the plus side I started reading the OT much more and more visit that way more than the gaming stuff

Why would I be embarrassed?

Most online gaming communities are a toxic dump of cringe and misogyny. Gaf is one of the few communities that doesn't make me embarrassed to be a gamer. (even if gaming side does get a bit riled up with console warz from time to time)

I've told no one ever that i post on gaf. I hide my smartphone when mobile gaffing before and during class. When someone comes by and i'm browsing gaf i change it to something else. I refuse to say where i hang out online, and by lord i will never even mention the name if i think the person might know what gaf is. I'm crippled by the paranoia that someone might figure out who i am from my posts.

This is my dirty secret and i won't share it with anyone.

Yep. Ditto.

Once a colleague walked by and asked what it was, I just told him its a news aggregating site where people post new articles. That is as non embarrassing as I could make this place.

No one I know irl besides other gaffers know or care that I post in here, and I have no reason to be embarrassed provided I don't say something nuts.

What the hell? Why would I be embarrassed? Y'all bring me so much news, information and entertainment. Whenever I'm surfing the Internet, I'm almost assuredly surfing NeoGAF content.

I don't go around sharing my internet habits in general but no, I can't see posting here something to be embarrassed over. It's a forum - who cares.
Having said that if it ever came up I don't know that I'd share my username irl. Not really out of embarrassment but more out of that's sort of creepy.

If anything, I'm proud of being a GAF member. Most here seem to be decent people.

I act here like I do in real life as much as possible so I have nothing to be ashamed of.

Not at all! Although I don't go out of my way to tell people, I have GAF open constantly at work and the two NESbot twitter feeds. Very rarely someone will recognise it, and other times I'll share funny posts or titles if I think a person will appreciate it.

I don't know any Gaffers in real life but a lot of my friends and colleagues use other forums or Reddit anyway.

I've made my own NeoGAF tshirts to wear to work. If people ask me what that symbol is I laugh at them. Someone that pathetic doesn't even deserve to know.

Havent met anyone yet that mentioned GAF nor did it come up in a convo. But not embarrassed even if it did

I feel like its a nihilistic waste of time a lot of the time.

But thats not exclusively a GAF issue.

One thing thats depressing is that I've been here since 2013 and probably no one knows me personally.
