New update came out a few days ago, 2 new maps added and a new mode where you have to escort Eren to fix the hole in the wall.

Also remember online is working.....kind of.

Attack on Titan has so much potential for an amazing AAA videogame. This fan project is awesome too.

Arkham City + Just Cause 2 + Spider-Man 2 + ...Metal Gear Rising? (I don't know, something with blades.) Procedurally generated titans, tons of unique variations, natural-looking animations all around, cel-shaded to look exactly like the show. Dark Souls style difficulty: Any random titan will fuc* you up if you aren't careful, higher skill play encouraged, no hand-holding (maybe a Recruit mode for babies). Motherfuc*ing physics-based swinging. Accurate architecture. Open world? Go anywhere, areas you aren't really supposed to go have barely anything to grapple in them. You could technically go everywhere, even outside the wall, if you're skilled enough to fight literally every titan without any backup. And going further inward or leaving your mission without permission makes your allies hostile and hunt you down.

I'm surprised how good the fan version looks, even with how rough it is.

All that sounds amazing which means we'll never get it.

This needs to happen

Of course we won't, because developers have some bias against physics-based swinging, and I imagine faithful anime games aren't as bankable as quick and easy cash-ins. The existing Attack on Titan may be fun enough for some fans, but I want more control than a guided experience, and I want it to look like some effort was put into bringing one of the most popular series in years to life.

The fan game is still pretty unrefined, but it looks like someone had seen the show and thought "I want a game that lets the players do almost exactly what the characters are doing here," as opposed to "How can I shoehorn this concept into an easily doable game structure that at least looks pretty cool?"

I want the game where I can swing around for 5 hours just cutting up titans (and probably dying a lot) without even touching a story mission, just because it's that much fun to do.

Playing this just made me want a real AAA game based on the show.

Why? Just give this guy the lisence and release it on Steam or something

There isn't much story to the game though. Feng has proven he can program, but the art style is lacking and there isn't a "story." Why wouldn't you want a AAA game based on AoT? Other than being afraid of it being picked up by a horrible publisher like EA, nothing really bad can come of it.

Yup. Seriously, the concept of AoT was made for video games. A spin-off would be great, maybe a prequel centered around Levi, Erwin, and Hange.

I'm sure with the license he would add a story and other things.

He nailed the gameplay and I feel like a lot of devs would ruin it and not go the same route of gameplay that he has done.

Imagine the possibilities on next-gen consoles. Look what developers were able to do with giant enemies in Evolve and Titanfall. I'm convinced that AoT would be amazing if brought correctly to next-gen consoles.

Man the progress this fangame has made is incredible, what a great job the guys are doing with it (or is it just one?).

The controls are hard to get used to but then also very rewarding and allow for so much maneuverability, which is exactly what I'd want out of an AoT game. You have to get pretty good to actually kill Titans regularly without constantly dying. That, in a way, is a must as the titans in the show are also really menacing.

And there's the problem with AAA development, I just can't see a big studio create such a game just with higher visual and audio fidelity. They'd "dumb" down the controls in comparison to this and trivialize fighting titans.

But I mean in theory at least something amazing could be done... right? It's just that a game with e.g. much more complex geometry requires crazy good programming for proper game engines/mechanics that involve high mobility and cool physics. Especially when you have to also scale the engine capabilities for allowing proper movement for gigantic titan units.

Yes it would definitely require a talented studio to get behind the game. The last thing I want is some half-assed effort like a (no offense) regular koei-tecmo dynasty warrior clone.

That's why I mentioned Platinum or even Kojima Studios (I know Kojima's a big fan). or as a wildcard
Respawn Entertainment

Or....

As a way to save the Wii U. Nintendo should buy up the rights and put Retro or Platinum on it. Wii U would have it's killer app.

Here would be the best way to get a AAA Attack on Titan game

- Get either A) Platinum B) Respawn or C) New Studio
- Studio hires on the fan game guy
- Gameplay is the exact same as it is in the fan game (is great with a controller actually)
- New art assets to bring game in-line with how the anime looks
- Make the game a co-op based story game where you create your own guy who is a member of the scouting legion
- Can be played offline with random co-op A.I
- Story is self contained but can cross over into the manga/anime story
- Have special "Main Story" missions where you take control of Eren, Mikasa, Levi and ect
- Take current fan game online mode but add in some more content and boss fights even though it has a lot already.
- Make sure the game is a steady 60FPS
- Release on PC/XO/PS4

There you go, you now have a "AAA" Attack on Titan game a lot of people would be very willing to pay for.

EDIT: Also the fan game guy did do a pretty great job of re-creating battles in the anime in the game

Colossal Titan Fight
Battle of Trost

I find this hard to play on a keyboard, is there a way to map the aiming to a control stick on a controller?

Dude... What? Why is this the first I'm hearing about this? I'm a huge, huge AoT fan and yet, I'm just now seeing this! Amazing. Catching up on the videos now.

Oh man, Ive been playing this game daily since.. months. Probably since it came out. Such a pro now. :p It's so good.

why would you want that

in my opinion the best developers for this game would be sucker punch, rocksteady or avalanche studios

all 3 of these developers have created open world games with vertical traversal
2 of these developers have created cities for their games sucker punch and rocksteady
and only one of them have created large bosses for their games sucker punch

good choices i have a feeling it will eventually happen
