Rescue me pleeeease! I was on floor 12, and got killed by inferno. I thought I was doing great, but I fell into a pit and was surrounded. Need to be more careful about traps in future.

just rescued you. found you in a monster house as well. Its a good thing I had swung an unidentified staff earlier and found out it was a paralysis one. I blocked the exit and a kigny went around killing everything until it became a kigny 12, which I then paralyzed and got you.

sadly no scrolls of blessing though, the hunt continues...

Dang! Reminds me of the monster house i had a few days ago where there were 3 kigny's running around murdering everything else. I died two steps away from the exit to a kigny 6 due to running out of stave charges.

if no one else takes it I guess I will later

but for now I'm going to do some fay's puzzles. I want to get some air/earth bless scrolls and some jars of holding. I want to upgrade my katana a little more before I try to take on table mountain again. I know I don't need super weapons but it'd be nice to be well prepared.

I also bought some mamel meat and put that in the warehouse along with a doppleganger staff I found I'll probably bring along with anything else I know will be useful.

Some staffs of postpone or paralysis would be nice, as well as chiropractic jars...

I know I don't need all this to start the journey, I just don't want to leave finding it all to chance, I REALLY want to beat this!

i just got thrown into that damn monster house from a tiger guy from a completely different room.. i didn't realize that the higher lvl ones could do that.....grrrrr.

edit: i guess you can't rescue someone as a riceball either. I hoping my sticky ricey goodness would revive you. :lol

I've sucked it up and restarted, no problem.

Random thought:
I wish Sega (and other publishers) would support games like this by publishing rescue requests on a website. They could even have an RSS feed of requests so that people could see when people are waiting to be rescued (which in turn would get more people using the service, etc). Super trivial functionality like this would make all the difference to a game like Shiren, and would be much easier for most people than the current 'poke in the dark' system the game uses. I believe Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 2 is better in this respect (sends emails out, etc) but a supporting website would be super simple and super effective.

I'm trying to treat this like a long arcade game, or old school game, so that restarting isn't so much of a psychological defeat for me.

i rushed to 27 and just ended up paralyzing and postponing every monster. i got that damn tiger that killed me on the first rescue attempt and the first step into the monster room almost killed me. i had 3 need scrolls though and popped one. anyway, here you go.

Yeah I had stocked up four big riceballs and made use of the inns along the way

also: thank goodness for the staff of stability I brought with me. I have soooo many jars and I stumbled twice and it saved me from losing some.

awesome! congrats! it feels good to know the effort was not wasted.

i've been working on the final puzzle myself and i think i've hit lvl 54 max or something.. so hard. i wonder if i should try and finish some of the other dungeons first. i did the trap one, food one, and that's it.


edit: man, i'm getting sick of this avatar business.. is there anyone i can beg to change it back? i made my own animated gif for it that took a bit of time. then i reworked it to fit the size requirements but did it too late. ah well...it is kind of funny.

While playing yesterday I used a sealing staff on what I didn't know what a Kid Tengu, which revealed its true form, and I got to thinking... what does Tengu meat do? I didn't have a Bufu Staff on me so I couldn't check for myself.

Just go out and die a few times to get a feel for it

always remember to get your free big riceball from the barman before you go

then try some of fay's puzzles, they help explain some fun ways to use items

edit: just in case you guys find this useful, i found a guy who went and made an excel spreadsheet documenting the prices of the various items in the Final Puzzle. Its still tough as nails even with being able to figure out what some of your items are.

I've become shiren the wandering bank

Just finished paying off the 10000 gitans to the restaurant, gave 1000 gitans to pekeji, and kept upgrading my katana as much as I could along the way.

I had to leave it in mt. top town this last run since I (foolishly) ran out of riceballs and didn't want to lose it like an idiot dying of hunger on the way back to canyon hamlet.

Time to go pick it back up and keep this restaurant stuff progressing so I can get into those other dungeons.

edit: made it into the kitchen god shrine. got to the 5th floor, found a jar, decided to press it.. and 5 baddies came out, surrounded me, and killed me.

I really just want a melding jar. I'm still bitter my game froze when gaibara gave me it. Hasn't happened since, never happened before that either. It's like the game wanted to screw me over.

Yup! Like someone mentioned earlier, this game is now $20 at Gamestop. So needlessly to say, I decided to give it a try and bought it last night.

Now, I have a question:

Does this game get better later on?

I mean, I am not bothered by the difficulty or the fact that you go back to being level 1 if you die (which is IMO what makes it interesting). It's just that the game feels a bit too uneventful at the moment.

Please note that I barely made it to the second town.

It starts out simple to ease you into the gameplay, but it gets rough with you later, especially once you reach Table Mountain (and, of course, in the extra dungeons, which are much harder than the main quest).

That's in terms of gameplay. The story is a simple one and serves mainly to get you into the dungeons and interesting situations.

I'd just gotten melding jars unlocked (haven't been able to play in a while), so I have a Kabra's Blade + 28 (with several skills in there), a Armor Ward +something (with 2 hides and a golden shield melded in)...

How do I die?

Two dead vets get away from me on their last hit until death, at which point they get into an ogre mage. Not TOO terrible, just means I should find the exit. I get delayed by a riceball changer, and guess what shows up right behind me, his first move being to seal me (at which point the riceball changes me into a riceball)... so I got utterly screwed. Blah.

i finally rode the golden condor last week.
awesome game. this is my first roguelike

one of my favorite moments in my many runs was when (forgive me i don't know the proper names) one of those crab/scorpion(?) things, the ones that get 2 hits per turn, from the swamp killed all 3 of my companions and i then turned him into meat.

that beast was unstoppable!

Died on 26F. Stupid Death Angel got me. I has JUST found a Minotaur's Axe on the previous floor and combined it with a Mastersword. The result was Mastersword that had the trait of critial-striking. I contemplated putting it in the storehouse jar, but I thought I could kill the Death Angel and survive a bit longer. I scored two blows on him and assumed he would die on one more, but I was wrong. =(

Anyone want to rescue me? I'll give you an armband. =)

there are 30 floors but if you are dying on floor 23 there is no point to continue...
