Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel | in Space | PC/360/PS3 only [Up: Screenshots]

Interesting. Sounds more like a stand-alone add-on than a full blown sequel, especially since it's only releasing on last-gen consoles.

I loved BL2, so I'll definitely pick this up.

They say this isn't coming to next gen, I'm pretty sure it will do at some point. They'd be silly not to, it's not like the new consoles are selling terribly. Plenty of people have upgraded and given that there aren't a huge amount of games out for either of them you'd think they'd want to capitalise on the next gen. I have no problem with them also bringing it to "last gen" consoles but releasing it only for them is silly. I would imagine they're saying "no next gen" so that they hope sales are decent on the announced platforms, then in a surprise to nobody next gen versions will be announced at a later date.

The PC version would definitely seem like the one to buy, but I want to upgrade my PC first before I buy any more non-sale games for it. It's not powerful enough to play most of the new games comfortably anyway.

The fact that it's not even cross-gen means I'm
Not even gonna buy it. If it's on pc already, would it really have been that much more work to get it running on ps4? Pass...

50 bucks say this is last-gen, only to have the next-gen versions revealed a month after launch.

No next-gens port is bad.
That oxygen stuff sounds really annoying.
Meh. I will wait for Borderlands 3 on next-gens consoles then.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Why are people getting so upset over this ? This smells like the Arkham Origins of the Borderlands franchise.

It would take some work but given how the PS4 and XB1 are more similar to a PC than the 360/PS3 are, probably not a huge amount of work. This is another reason I don't understand the lack of PS4/XB1 and I believe it will be announced for them in the future. 2K would be silly not to with an established franchise like this.

If this was announced a few days ago I would swear it would be an April Fool's prank judging by the boxart and the name

Lack of PS4/Xbone versions is weird, but not really a concern for me because I have a PC.

I will probably get this game.

Borderlands was never on my radar but this gameplay mechanic intrigues me. I'll have to see what else they are offering.

No next-gens port is bad.

Reasoning sounds sensible:
Gearbox's Randy Pitchford was very clear that Borderlands the Pre-Sequel won't be coming to next-gen consoles. Here's why:

"The game will launch on the platforms that all Borderlands customers are familiar with," he said. "So it's Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, and there is not a next-gen version of this. One hundred percent of the budget and the investment and the resources and the talent that have been invested into Borderlands Pre-Sequel have been spent to create content, have been spent to iterate technology from the Borderlands 2 engine. So none of the investment has gone toward creating new technology. None of the investment has gone towards figuring out how new platforms work. It's all about creating, focusing that energy on creation of entertainment and playable entertainment.

"The advantage of course is we know that all the people that played any of the Borderlands games before has these platforms, right. There's over 150 million installed PlayStation 3's and Xbox 360's. There are currently fewer PlayStation 4 and Xbox One's than the sold copies of Borderlands 2, and we do not expect a better than that tie-in rate. So it was a really natural decision for us to prioritize the platforms that are customers are on. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to make sure no one confused our energies as something that you might imagine a Borderlands 3 to be."

Looks... interesting? I've not played any Borderlands in a fair while, so I might be up for this come release day. Not sure about that oxygen mechanic, though.

Pitchford on why Bordermemes isn't on PS4/Xbone

guess they finally ran out of Colonial Marines money

Jesus, are we really calling it that? "Bordermemes"? "Memes" isn't even close to rhyming with "Lands" for pete's sake.

who on earth thought that the oxygen thing was a good idea?

part of what makes borderlands fun is the exploration; slapping on an arbitrary time limit before you have to find enemies to loot just spoils that experience

honestly, time limits just to explore open-world games are a bigger sin than escort missions

completely bizarre

I'm mildly Interested I guess. I predict it being a middling workaround until the real devs release a real Borderlands sequel. It's a gap filler, like Arkham Origins.

I'm intrigued but the whole oxygen thing is a complete turn off, I never cared for that kind of garbage in video games.

And you know this will come out on the Xbox One and PS4 sooner or later.

It's a given no matter how much they say otherwise at first.

Yup, if that. I have yet to finish Borderlands 2 and it's crap ton of DLC. This "pre-sequel" (sorry, could you guys hear me rolling my eyes?) just looks like even more DLC to me. It's just Borderlands 2 with an O2 meter and low gravity.
And 4 new characters with all new abilities and new weapon types and all new setting.

It justifies a full release, I think.

Not only is it slapped on for the sake of adding "new" to the formula, the solution to making it not annoying as hell would render the entire mechanic useless and superficial. I honestly don't get the point. The only way it might have been interesting is if getting below a certain amount of health with a high O2 meter instituted a chance of personal explosion/fire.

They're on the moon. If they didn't address it, then it would just feel like DLC with new backgrounds and weapons. Sounds pretty good imo:
One massive addition to the game is the need for a new type of gear, the oxygen kit, or Oz kit. Once a player makes their way onto the moon's surface a helmet digistructs over their head. An oxygen meter tracks how much oxygen they have, but it's not really to make sure you have enough to breathe with. The oxygen tanks on a player's back can also serve as a low-gravity jump jet. By venting oxygen you can double jump, hover, fly a little bit and, most impressively, do a damaging ground pound.

Like much of the game's gear, those Oz kits also can add different bonuses like increasing your fire rate or reload speed or adding different types of elemental damage to that ground slamming attack.

"There's lots of gear variety in the Oz kits as well, so it's a whole new dimension for gear," Pitchford said.

Because of the low gravity of the moon, a players jumps is much higher and a little slower than usual, but the ground pound makes up for that and prevents players from becoming slow moving targets for enemies on the ground.

Will get this for the PC, day 1 lol.

Lack of next gen console focus means it'll probably run adequately on mah crappy laptop (no 8 core monstrosities required lol) based on how the DX9 BL2 engine ran.

Without a PS4 and One version... and releasing on the same timeframe as Destiny... looks like doesn't seem very clever move...

I'm not gonna buy a PS3 game again having a PS4... so 2K count me out of all the PS3 sold, please

The flight plan I just filed with the agency list me, my men, Dr. Pavel here. But only one of you!
The fact that all the playable classes are characters I've already grown to dislike is sort of off-putting.

I suppose you are right. They've certainly outlined their costs for these things through their previous DLC. It's just a hard sell for me personally. I'm a bit burnt out on the series. I feel like it could really use a more solid gunplay foundation. Outside of the extremely addictive loot fest the core game systems seem a bit lackluster and tired.
