Like someone said it's day and night since the patch.
Before the patch i was about to stop playing this game, but now i can see me make some prestige. :)

The night and day praise the patch seems to be getting in several places is great. Sorta makes me wish I had waited but oh well. If it's as good as Black Ops Wii I might break down rebuy it at some point. It didn't take them long though to do this patch. Which makes me feel they didn't test this game before sending it out the door. If they had spent a little time testing the mulitplayer they should have caught this.

that seems to be true of every FPS that comes out these days.

well i need to buy this sooner now lol. How are the maps compare to blops? Are they too big? small? I do not like bigger map since it takes a lot time just to find some one. Also did patch fixed some of the frame rate issue people had?

After 10 or so rounds post-patch, I can safely say lagshooting is gone for the most part. My fiber connection sets me as host every time unless I join a match already underway, and host lag is still pretty bad. Oh well, it's a hundred times better than it was on launch day.

Good to hear :) now I just need to stop playing blops lol

Nice news on the patch. I heard that it may have also fixed a couple of other bugs as well? Something about random bullet damage and multiple headshot kills.

It's almost like a new game. Sure you have some laggy matches here and there, but in those you know where the lag is coming from, and you can tell that some of the players connections are slowing the game down. But when playing with local players it's almost lag free.

Is there a Wii Allycode list for Neogaf Players?

I received the game on Friday afternoon.

I notice a lot of people (me included) are getting only one bar signal strength yet lag is almost imperceptible. I didn't play it before the patch but in its current state the on-line code is very impressive stuff indeed.

The way I see it, the main problem at this stage in the patching process is having to sometimes wait fairly long to get into a match. And then lobbies also tend to be pretty unstable, meaning people will play a match or two and then leave to play with another mode and/or group. If the amount of players in a lobby drop below a certain limit, then the waiting process starts all over again. Even with ignoring the latter aspect, if you're just starting a session it can sometimes take three to five minutes from clicking FIND A GAME to actually playing. In comparison, Conduit 2 and Goldeneye will get you (i.e. me) into a game in around thirty seconds or less. So this is definitely something Treyarch will need to look at with the next update.

It seems I was a bit overeager in labelling the lag as "imperceptible". :)

I played two hours last night. At one stage I had to quit playing team deathmatch because my shots simply weren't registering often enough. Still, I had fun playing, and certainly moreso than the hour I had spent on the dissappointing Battlefield 3 beforehand.

I've also been progressing through the campaign. The reduced input from Infinity Ward shines through in this entry's less serious tone. The pace is fast, the action is constant, and set pieces are so over the top as to be cartoony. I don't mind the badly conceived plot or poor storytelling as much now because the game is suddenly just so much fun to play, which is something I would have never thought possible as regards a Call of Duty campaign.

My one complaint, aside from the long time it takes to join a game, is that visually the game makes use of a very limited colour pallette. Almost all of the environments appear drained of colour, which is quite striking when I'm coming off something like Conduit 2 with its terrific (and colourful) sci-fi art design.

I shall continue placing impressions as I spend more time with the game. I look forward to catching some Gaffers on-line. I've already noticed that Chuck has VERY impressive stats, which I likely cannot hope to match with my connection. It's going to be great having him/you on my team. :)

Completed the campaign last night and enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to actually. Glad to see the Treyarch Wii staff right at the top of the credits where they belong (and glad to see above 70 members this time).

Will post my Ally Code here after a bit of Zelda and will play online in between Mario, Zelda and Battlefield sessions! Lots of gaming to do this November!

I haven't played online much to make a list of bugs to patch, but there was one in Campaign that kept getting me: When zooming in with a sniper rifle at certain times, the aim would auto lock onto the floor or the sky - unable to bring the aim down or up to snipe people. Thought this was very strange, since it seems to correct itself after a while. Just inconvenient. (Wii Remote controls).

Any other major things that need fixing now?

I am unable to add boris feinbrand or Disguises to my ally list. The game reports that the person is either already on my ally roster or I've already sent a request. I suspect this is a bug. I'll try adding luoapp later and see if it does the same thing.

I've been a bit busy with other things this week, so I've had to play MW3 late in the evening. Lag is definitely much worse than the first few days when I was playing in the afternoon. My bullets are regularly passing through people now and my kill-death ratio is starting to look a bit pathetic. The weird thing is that I can still get a good game from Goldeneye or Conduit 2 at that hour, which tells me that the patching on MW3 still has some ways to go before the on-line performance is up there with the competition. I'm still hoping Black Ops will be delivered this week, which should make for an interesting comparison, I think.

Have you looked at the ally requests? I've sent you an ally request a few days ago. Maybe you can't add allies that have allready sent you an invite.

Also the wording sounds pretty funny to me. Proposals. As english is only my third language, I allways associate proposal with asking someone to get married (might also be because of my private situation but that's not for here)

As for the lag: Yeah, Goldeneye is still vastly better with hit detection and lag. MW3 will have to be finetuned in the future to match Goldeneye, but damn I'd be lying if the game isn't tons of fun when it works. Getting those rapid succession Kills with the L118 while strafing is just an amazing experience. Really love it. Also, I had to turn off aim assist, as it was fucking with my precision way too much. Unlike Goldeneye, MW3s aim assist is very detrimental to the pointer aiming.

My FC: 5222-4676-0826

Will add you when I get home.

Yesterday was fricking terrible. Lag en masse, lagshooting, warping characters, random red screens, teleporting bullets. What the hell... did they undo everything the patch fixed?

I have been playing the game and i find that i do better with the specialist killstreaks, having sleight of hand and scavenger is a godsend to me since i have this OCD of realoading everytime i shoot and im always using the ACR 6.8 so refilling ammo is a must, but then i feel like a jerk and switch to support, putting vests and sam turrets everywhere...

Anyway, if anyone wants to add me my FC is: 4937 0934 8088

My Internet was down from Thursday until this afternoon. I'll be playing a bit later to catch up. :)

I just checked my Wii and see several of you have added me to your Ally lists. That's great! I look forward to seeing you guys (any girls?) on-line!

MiniDitka finished the campaign playthrough-videos (around 2 days ago actually :p) so, posted the remaining videos in the main post. Great job! :)

Updates some general aspects and bits of information of the main post (campaign info, multiplayer, typos, etc.).

So i played the game some online multiplayer. One thing that I found missing right away is the stats. In blackops you can check out other persons stats what gun he uses and everything here everything is missing the benefit is that I do not know what my kd ratio is and i usually do not care in blops it was right in front. Maps in my opinion were better in blops there is too many hiding spot here.

Errh you just go to the barracks and it's all there. Kills, Deaths, matches played etc...

I'm currently tied up with University and Zelda so I might be off for a while now. Hope to get some matches in later this week.

I think the issue is, and someone on youtube I think pointed this out, is people are mistaking this as a sequel to Black Ops when it's really not. By now we have two Call of Duty lines running basically independently of each other. Modern Warfare 3 is a sequel to MW2 to a degree where I think Infinity Ward basically ignored what Treyarch did. Either out of pettiness or because things were already set in terms of design when they started planning MW3 after MW2 was done. Also I don't think they are sharing information even though they are both apart of Activision. It can be argued that's a bad thing but maybe Activision wants it that way so both teams produce games that have their own styles, etc. That's the only thing that makes sense to me for the lack of obvious positives that came out of Black Ops. I assume Treyarch will continue to build on what they did in Black Ops the way they built on what they did in World at War.

I actually like this direction as it lets me as a consumer decide which style of product I like better. Going forward for example I'll be sticking with Treyarch's games until they turn me off. I'm done with IW's style of design. I don't need a new CoD game ever year anyway. So Black Ops will last me until 2012.

I did manage to rent MW3 to check it out post-patch. Shooting was better but still had issues with how it ran and there was still shooting issues I found from time to time. Being killed when I'm clearly out of the line of sight of the other player is annoying. I guess this is the being shot around corners thing. Didn't have any rubber banding outside of two matches so that was good. Maps are still bad but less of a pain when I could properly aim and shoot at someone. For as bad as Nuketown is I think Dome is worse. At least Nuketown had a weird test house/model charm of a colorful nuke testing site. It was nice to look at and very straight forward.

I do wish I had tried Team Tactical or Free For All though when I had the chance. Perhaps less players in the match would provide a smoother play experience. Anyone willing to test it out?

I agree that Activision has the COD lines very nicely set up. I'm never been much of a fan of Treyarchs design. But I am immensely impressed with their technical skills. Hell getting a Wii version that has almost feature parity is something I very much appreciate. But with Black Ops - MW you can choose your style to your liking.
Basically the only real complaint I have with MW3 on Wii is the terrible terrible host framerate issues. It's almost unplayable.

It's also why I don't think there needs to be any hate between the players. Just pick which style of game you like and play it. You have a choice and no is forcing anyone to buy the games yearly. You don't have to bash the other game or those that prefer the other style of game.

Ranked 856 in the TDM lone wolf yesterday with 389 kills. Not too bad. Champion had 815 kills.

EDIT-Nevermind, this is the Wii thread. Damnit

^ i am probably rancked some where in 50000 area haha

I agree. Black ops on wii was much more suited for my liking. I will still play this for since I got it. When I was asking stats I know in barracks you can see normal stats but it is no way in detail as blops also when you click on the name you can only mute or add ally not see stats.

Well, added the info about the second patch, patch number and size too.
Removed the acknowledgement from earlier that patches were in the works.

As always, thanks to the awesome Nirolak for the thread title update. :)

Nice! 2 patches within 3 weeks so far. Only thing that I feel needs patching is the absolute lack of auto-aim using the classic controller pro. This is noticeable in single-player spec-ops as well as the normal multiplayer mode. I need to get into playing this, will hopefully have enough time this weekend to sink a decent amount of hours in...

Edit: Heh....they seemed to have added sticky aim when using the classic controller now (at least in spec ops mode, although I assume they did the same for online).
Edit 2: Then again...I can't remember if sticky aim was missing in the first place any more :S. Anyone else confirm? I'm 80% sure it's new.

Depends on what do you mean by "sticky aim". :p

If you mean that when pressing ZL (or the "shoot from the hip) button (which zooms-in a little) it auto-looks/locks to the nearest target; that has been since the game was released. Some refer it as "aim assist" which can be turned off. Default is on and it's also used when playing with the Wii Remote (and "shooting from the hip"). Some don't like since it makes it easier to do headshots.

Or something like that. :p

Looking around, there were apparently cheats/hacks that allowed for auto-locking in the previous games, which made it easier in multiplayer to kill other players.

**

Added some other misc. tweaks to the thread and added default controls to the main post too.

Just got back to my Wii from Thanksgiving. Haven't yet powered up MW3: Wii since returning, but I'm pleasantly surprised to find another patch.
