Oh really okay, i might pull the trigger then. Im going to get the After dark dlc too.
I read the snow dlc isn't worth it ?

After dark gives a you day/night cycle logic (affecting traffic amongst other things), a bunch of unique buildings and a new Commercial category (tourism). To me its worth it.

The snow DLC though give you even more in my opinion. Even if snow is a theme, it not only add the snow logic, it also gives you an entirely new service to manage (road maintenance), tramways and a bunch of new buildings and parcs.

In my opinion they are worth it if you want to play "the complete experience" and have a maximum of unique buildings and monuments.

The day/night cycle was part of the free update. I think you should only get the DLCs if you like the base game and want some more stuff to play with.

CO word of the week #12 - 23/2016 + Patch notes 1.5.0

This week has been intense! We have been working on a smaller patch to celebrate the start of the 2016 UEFA European Championship and tomorrow there will be a free football (the REAL kind) related mini DLC available for free!

Alongside the mini DLC there will be a small patch to fix a few issues and adding the pre-order content for everyone to enjoy. Most interesting adjustments in the patch are the solar power plants producing now 70% of the daytime output and After Dark's Tourism specialization attracting more tourists. The full patch notes are listed below.

The team at Colossal will continue to work hard on bringing new content and improvements to Cities: Skylines in the future and I hope you enjoy this little update in the meanwhile!

Cheers,
Mariina

Is there any mod that enables grid-based placements of roads and such? The completely freeform building just doesn't sit that well with me.

Once you lay down the first road it provides a localized grid which you can follow. There isn't a mod with a map-wide grid.

If the mod supports the latest version it'll work with DLCs just fine. I haven't seen a mod that will break if you have a DLC.

DLC content applies to old vanilla save files?
Or i have to start a new map to see the new content?

Depends on the content. New commercial types (tourism) you can have them built in your old city. Whatever new building or props too.
If you want snow though, its a theme like tropical, European, and all the rest.

I use most of those mods with both DLCs without issues. But usually, top rated most used mods are always updated to be compatible with the latest DLC.
Or better, compatible to the free-patch that goes along the latest DLC (the paid part is usually just additional content that doesn't break anything).

There's going to be an announcement next week in Gamescom, on the 18th.

My hope:

Console version delayed till 2017 (so that they cna focus on the PC), new expansion takes the game into Unity 5 DX 12 + disasters + fair day! - Add a circus, amusement park or a renaissance fair to your city for more tourism!

I do hope it's more substantial than the previous DLCs. The management parts of the game are still barebones.

My hope is that it's a new expansion that addresses exactly that. Adding in better management tools and mechanics would be very welcome. I'd also like to see new train content added, maybe put in a variety of train styles and some tools to make fantastically detailed yet functional train yards. I'd also love to see civilian boat traffic around piers and docks, like what Simcity 4 had just to add some nice atmosphere.

I quit the game because of this

The management is just not there. Once you hit a certain point, you snowball into wealth and its no fun.

The only challenge is roads, but there's no real management that makes me feel like a mayor

I'd really like to get back into this. I stoped playing when the snow update broke all my mods and I never checked to see if they worked again later because it was a pain in the ass trying to figure out which ones were broken. The mod system needs better debugging for end users to help them figure out what is broken. All I get is cryptic error messages.

The lack of actual depth has been one of my main issues, same with the last Sim City, aside from the other limitations that one had.

I still hold a candle for Citybound. A one-man band, but he's really paying attention to the fundamentals. If you're more interested in the simulation aspect than adding 100s of props to make your farms look nice, then it could be the citybuilder for you! Devblog: http://blog.cityboundsim.com/

Citybound is cool, but it's stuck in development hell right now.
Yeah. It's a shame. I loved watching his videos. But he hasn't put anything up since 7 months ago when he said 2016 was going to be promising.

That and PLEASE DEAR JESUS changing the business AI at the level where they shouldn't build their damn building at all before making sure there are enough workers available looking for a job damn it.

So simple and would reduce abandoned buildings ALOT. I wasn't passing time at erasing buildings in SimCity4...

Anyone using road anarchy? I'm trying to enable it (alt+ L) but I don't get the button that's supposed to appear.

Forget what the other road mod is, not sure if that one is working properly either.

Yeah, the base game and After Dark are great for the most part, but between Snowfall and this new expansion, I'm not sure if I like the direction Colossal is taking the game.

I think a big part of it is that the fantastic mod support has made it harder for them to add stuff without, well, basically just integrating mods into the game. Love Snowfall though, but yeah, disasters I can't get excited about.

I agree.

CO is a company of only 15 people i believe who are time and budget constraint
Compare that to the 1000s of mod authors throwing content out there as mods ( ranging from to trash to amazing ) for free .

The only way CO can compete with that is to make content and systems that the mod authors can't implement like bdisasters or cities in space .

I have no particular interest but I guarantee this is one of the most popular requests they get, it only makes sense to actually put something out I think.
