I tried.

EDIT: I'm late and mine is awful hahaha

true.

edit:damnit, top of page, sorry leeh.

Thanks.

It's Crackdown for sure and looks quite fun but it's really close, they obviously added, tweaked things but the base is so Crackdown 1. Is that a bad thing, I dunno, Microsoft obviously pissed about with the IP and went for a rush job in the end so it's great that it looks that good but it lacks the innovation and upgrade a new game usually has. Crackdown being stiff wasn't compelling design, it's just what it was at the time. Crackdown 3 to me needed that leap to next gen with the core ideas intact not the actual core.

No, they didn't. The devs have had at least 2 years.

Watching the Ign video right now................no hopes for this game to look better in person. Dude said he played it on a high-end PC and it looked ugly. Not enough to kill my purchase but disappointing nonetheless. I thought Microsoft was going to blow everyone's faces off with this. I mean, it's coming out on the same day of the Xbox One X it should look baller :(

Damn. So the consensus is the campaign mode feels fun, but it's ugly as sin.

That suck because CD1 was a good looking game for its time. How is it that Sunset can look so good as an early xb1 game, and this game looks like it does...

Glad to see it appears to be fun.

Destin from IGN seemed legit peeved that the guy he interviewed wasn't gushing about it.

Looks like its not just Gaffers not realizing the cloud destruction was limited to the PvP mode, since the press expected campaign to have massive destruction too.

And the common refrain from these impressions is of a basically fun game that happens to be ugly, even on max settings.

That's fine by me. Now, as long as the MP mode is as good as they originally promised, I'll be completely satisfied.

I don't know man looking this off-screen gameplay I wouldn't call the game horrible, it's not a looker that's for sure, now, horrible? no. Below average? Yes. But looks fun as hell.

Props to the IGN guy for straight up saying it looks ugly.

It does.

I dont buy this, theres ways to bullshit your way around it. Limit weapons, shields around buildings, specially re enforced buildings that you cant knock down.

I think the only reason you cant destroy everything is cause they cant do it on an Xbox One. PR about being the good guys be damned

It's not exactly a secret they can't do it on an Xbox one. Wouldn't need to create a cloud based engine if they could

Quote from that article;

"The satisfying combat structure was further aided by the game's graphics. Testing Crackdown in 4K on the Xbox One X the game’s stylised, comic book-like graphics looked great, textures were wonderfully detailed and particle effects are a cut above most competing titles."

This is interesting, as IGN played on the PC version and said it was ugly, these guys claim they were playing on the X1X and it looks great....

Either way, the general consensus is that it plays great and that draw distance looks awesome, so I'm back to being mad hyped to get my hands on this.

I hate to pull the old man card here but I remember the exact same complaints about the first one when it was originally demoed at E3. I didn't see anybody in the videos that would have even been old enough to have played the original demos back in 2006 and not a one mentioned it, so I'm assuming they didn't have that perspective when going in.

Subjectively ugly but fun. I remember thinking the graphics look different but never ugly. Honestly, it never floored me visually because I didn't (and still don't) know what that style of cel-shaded should look like if it were 'pretty' in a large scale open world game. I don't know how hard it is to make a game look like a comic book in motion. Another one of my fave games from last gen was the Borderlands series and I always hear the same complaints about that series that I hear about Crackdown. If the Borderlands and Crackdown series are both ugly, what is the gold standard for this graphics style? What other games can we compare these 'ugly' games to that have huge open vistas, massive explosions, enemies everywhere, vehicles, etc. and this type of cell shaded art style?

No CD1 was a barren ugly game for its time.

I love the game, but let's be honest.

edit - In fact CD1 was suppose to be on the OG Xbox and it showed.

You respawn really fast in this game. Silver lining for the graphics found.

EDIT: New gameplay:

Okay, this looks good too. There seems to be some weight to movement here and it's not running at twice the speed like the previous footage.

Animations seems to be have lifted directly from CD2. Not terrible, but I would have thought they'd do better and make it look more fluid.

Strange shit happening with this game and capturing. This is why you release direct feed footage as soon as possible.

Is it 60fps?

Nope. 30fps.

So with that, we can officially call the "power of the cloud" total bullshit?

I mean - if that's the best they can show - it's evident at the VERY LEAST that building destruction was non-existent.
It was always 100% bullshit and it was shameful that they weren't called out on it more.

Edit: oh lol it's MP only

This looks a whole lot better than that story trailer. This gameplay is taken from PC, is that normal usually for these kind of game demos on the show floor? I just hope this PC footage is representative of the X version and not that the story trailer was X.

It definitely is Crackdown though, I just wish graphics would have been much better. Was hoping for impressive lighting and basically how that shot looked of the agent looking over the city.

So no destruction in single player? I didn't expect the same level of destruction as in multiplayer, but come on. Even old games like Red Faction handles this well without cloud servers.

Well this isn't a water tower with 12 polygons falling onto a desert floor with about 20 polygons.

Agreed and I get why they didn't put it in SP but man, some walls and other general things should be destructible. In the footage I saw some small structures where enemies can't stand on, let us destroy it. Those kind of things.

That's not a good response when you know people are going to start posting Guerilla gifs of buildings collapsing onto one another.

It's a valid question and the developers response to it leaves a lot to be desired when Guerilla handled it just fine. They could have turned it into a mechanic, cause too much destruction and citizens start to turn against you and other agents come out to take you down.

Pretty sure I saw some walls/fences that crumbled after taking a rocket blast.

It was in yesterday's footage.
