Demon Gaze |OT| Even heroes have to pay rent

Thanks, yeah I figured a healer would be necessary, but I'd rather not have to use a Wizard. Sometimes games like this make a big deal of elemental damage and then make wizard type classes the only way to deal with elements.

So I'm thinking Main character, Samurai, (paladin?), (assassin?), and Healer

The assassin can work in the back for a while, till you level it up unlocking more skills. The paladin you would most def want in the front along with the samurai. Just know that if the samurai gets hit hard usually the chances of it dropping dead are good lol.

It depends too on how you decide to spec out your team stat point wise along with what race you pick for them, if you decide to edit it.

I had posted this a couple pages back in the thread but its generally what my party looked like back when I was still playing.

Mine are generally built around speed & defensive ability.

(stats go from priority left to right)

FRONT ROW
Demon Gazer - AGI - STR - VIT
Paladin - HUM - VIT - STR - AGI
Samurai - NEY - STR - AGI

REAR ROW
Healer - MIG - MYS - AGI
Assassin - NEY - AGI - LUC - STR

Oh I found him easy though and made of tons of exp, like this guy
Image-223_zps848ea47a.png

Its just bad luck really. Since it is possible to get overwhelmed depending on how the AI acts. Esp if he hides in the back and with how many escorts show up / can keep showing up will basically grind away your HP leading to death. lol

Yep killed about 8 of his little summons but he kept hopping back and summoning more so I could never get enough damage on him before he would hop back and heal. When I ran he had 2 rows filled with other people.

Wouldnt have it any other way, as wouldnt be a "proper" dungeon crawler without assholes like that lol

Same thing happened to me but I wasn't going to take it lying down.

Came back and he called like 10 minions throughout the battle and I finally killed him.

If the goblin king killing you is that off putting then you're better off playing final fantasy or something.

I rolled a wizard but you guys are making me think I should replace with a healer and a ranger.

Usually wizards are valuable in these games to do elemental damage but if I understand correctly this isn't as necessary in this game?

The wizard has some useful spells and whatnots, but personally I prefer more physical damage over that. Also dont have to worry about dropping dead in one hit if the rows get reversed lol.
Its not totally necessary, but if you have a wizard can be useful, just takes a while to get there once again.
All totally depends on play style.

A combination of the Wizard - Magic Wall + Healers - Holy Shield is pretty useful depending on the situation. But can make do without it, the Wizard that is.

I guess I missed Goblin King being a pain.

I didn't realize you could save at the circles and ran into Mars pretty deep in the dungeon. I was low on resources and read you could run from boss fights (but didn't think to use Flash) and got cut down trying to get out. Lost all progress in the dungeons.

Went back in, ran into Mars noticeably earlier in the dungeon. Noted Flash was a thing, but proceeded to beat her up.
Then I got a kind of confusing scene from the guards. Apparently I have to open up all the circles and then follow her somewhere for the real fight?

Also, I'm finding myself skipping circle because I don't have enough gems to use three. Apparently you can buy them somewhere?

Also also, I can't find an explanation for all the numbers and letters on items. I'm assuming the top left is a quality indicator? I only have E and D on any item. Below that I'm guessing is range. Bottom right: Armor Def, Mag. Def, Armor... penalty?

jesus how did you make it so far into the game without knowing you could buy gems from the elf? lol. and saving at circles, since the menu pops up when you activate it after you cleared it once.

Quality indicator for items is the lettering.

Stats should be pretty straight forward. + is well plus something - is minus something.

DO NOT sell items that have a star with the lettering as thats a RARE item which you only get one per play through. So you sell it, trash it, turn it to pixie dust thats it, its gone.

Yeah, I am going to dump the wizard I think.
How do I enable paladin skills? I can't select them in battle. I'm level 8 and they show up in the character menu but they are greyed out

Oh also on the live screen area of the game in the vita system, there's an icon on the top row that has a suitcase with a game controller in it. I clicked it and it seemed to look for a save from a different game to import that I don't have. What is this?

Yeah if the guys underwater are giving you trouble still, the next area will put up even more resistance so leveling is good.

I do fine the most part. Yet then sometimes it's just like BAM! DEAD! Wondering if I should head to those caves and do some leveling in there. Is that a good spot? Also I only have a mage and not a healer. Should I shelve him and start working on a dedicated healer? My other classes are ranger, samuria, palladin. I feel at this point I'm hitting a wall of getting better equipment even though using the summon stones for items. Granted then I debate. Do I turn them into fuel for forging stroger weapons or just use the better weapon. Any advice?

Not sure what that suitcase thing is. Dont recall having that in the JP one? Or maybe I just didnt notice... hmmm... did it state what the game was? The paladin stuff am looking up now. Since I dont remember myself off hand.

Ok the lv 1 Divine Body and lv 4 Front Guard are passive skills. The active ones are Holy Charge, Devotion, Providence. Passive skills are Divine Body,
Front Guard, Holy Guard.

The caves are an ok place to level, but I mostly go there just to open up the next floors and such from within that dungeon as when you clear the normal dungeons you can progress further into the ones in the caves.

Yes having a dedicated healer is good. Btw did you already do the
mimic
subquest?

Hmm Id say level up what you have for the time being or what matches your current play style as its not always a stronger weapon will be more useful depending on what sort of bonuses it gives. Unless its 2 types that are just raw damage.

But always having a decent stock of fuel for forging better items is good. Just dont go too overboard so you make yourself broke as that can happen pretty quickly with certain items, esp the higher lv stuff. What I would suggest too is also to really try to max out your armor pieces. As will make things a lot easier also with a higher defense.

With duplicate items make sure you look at the stats carefully since I recall that sometimes they can be slightly different. Like the extra bonuses they give for example.

Since the Global Edition is coming out in Japan soon, that suitcase icon is probably used for transferring save file from the original version into the new Global Edition. I doubt it does anything for NA/EU players since we never got the original.

Oh, good to see I wasn't the only one getting stomped by the Golbin King when I summoned him in the first demon circle, lol.

Is it possible to remake characters afterwards? Is there a limit of how many characters you can make? I'm just worried making a human samurai first was a bad choice or something.

Since the game just came out doubt it. And am sure the JP names from the US ones are different also with the localization.

Yeah, that's what I figured. Having some money troubles since I'm extracting all the weapons and armor I'm getting instead of selling em.

7 total. So thats 4 w/ rooms + the 3 on standby. Not exactly remaking but I think at the most all you can do is change the appearances / voice with the green fro dude in the salon. forgot his name.

Can understand that, but try just selling some items too. Its not like most of the lower level "sell only" items really net you a lot of cash anyways. Dont recall there being a specific enemy that dropped a lot of cash. Was more just kill a ton of stuff lol. Then again all of those sellable items I dont recall there being that many quests that required a lot of things, so if you dont mind going out and finding them again just sell everything. My play style is generally a "packrat" so I just keep everything for the most part. Or at least 5 stock of those types of items just in case.

That rpgfan review. Lol.

Sounds like they should change the name of the site to "whineyfan" after passing over that review.

Guy would most likely go fall on his sword if he ever played a main line wizardry game then.

I just played the intro and did part of the first dungeon last night but I'm already enjoying it. The characters are interesting, I like the vocaloid music and of course you can't beat first person dungeon crawling.

Question though: Am I really screwing myself if I don't make a healer for my first additional party member? Ideally I'd like to kill faster with an additional damage dealer and then add the healer later. Thoughts?

No the paladin is fine for your first character as the main character can also heal. But as a third character yes it is useful having a healer so the main can focus on damage dealing. If you really know what you are doing can make another DD type of character, but then you would also run into having to dip into your item stock, which you really would want to keep well stocked instead for later in the game.

That rpgfan review. Lol.
I can feel the heat through my screen.

It doesn't come out here till Friday so I've got a bit more to wait. Though it's going to dispatch Friday apparently so maybe not until Monday. But I'm glad to know people seem to be enjoying it and I'm really looking forward to it now. With this and Etrian Odyssey Untold a week later I think I'll be set for awhile.

Im seriously going to name the extra part of the title for OT of SoSC:WP as follows below.

Stranger of Sword City: White Palace |OT| Pussies need not apply

If my hunch about the games design / difficulty is correct. That and if its cool with the mods having such a title lol. So will have to ask a few about that.

I just did that quest and completed it. Loved the design for that. Now I just need one mroe demon to unlock it!

Nice, I'll be looking forward to your OT! Hopefully NISA localizes that game too. :)

Should have my Shopto pre-order tomorrow but not sure if I'll play straight away. Just got to the extra stratum in the first Etrian Odyssey and might finish that up first, although I've heard the difficulty is ridiculous.

Haha true that. And he's what, the 3rd enemy in the game?

I figured he was going to mop me up after my demon gauge ran out, so I just started holding triangle and ended up killing him.

That's about as far as I got this morning. I really love the use of colors and how vibrant this game looks on the Vita!

What's damn funny about this battle is the first time I did it. No joke, I beat it pretty easily. I was like..."that's it" then on my way back to the inn. I died. SON OF A !!!!! Then went back and it just smoked me left and right. I came back later and then got it good!

careful guys, the fanservice is destructive

The fan service in this is nothing compared to Conception II imo. I couldn't stand how much it was thrown at me in that game. Here it's very unintrusive if you ask me. I forget it's even in here honestly most the time.

I just hope they put up enough resources for me to "borrow" from the main site or else doing up graphics and whatnots will be a bit hard. As am not a 2D graphics guy at all to be able to make my own original stuff lol. At the most can just edit things to get em to work. So am hoping they put in a lot of effort with the website and content. If they want the damned thing to sell initially on the 360 / PC they better lol. Though lots of comments from the JP gamers seems to be "Ill wait for the Vita version" lol not surprising too considering thats where Exp. Inc. is moving a lot of their stuff currently. Really hope that eventually they do a "remake" or just bring out a HD version of Students of Round to the Vita also. Granted we can just play the PSP ver but still.

So once I choose a race and a class, I'm stuck with that for the character? This is going to make creating new characters even more nervewrecking.

from what Im familiar with basically yeah. I forgot if you can delete said character and just make another. Though if you could Id imagine it will cost you 500G again to re-register one with Fran.

Yeah its interesting how the AI reacts totally different at times.
I think the bad part is when the thing can reverse your party order and has both a what is considered a magical and a physical type of all party attacks I think? Or at least am pretty sure it does seeing how my physical resist shield didnt block something once and it hit everyone. Same with the magic resist shield. If it does those both then yeah big problem lol
by the way about the dying part
was it the giant toads that killed you? hahaha

Haha true that. And he's what, the 3rd enemy in the game?

Triangle button = YOLO button lol. Its hilarious when you do that then suddenly wind up with a dead character and wonder WTF just happened.

Indeed the use of colors and such w/ the art style is very well done. I think thats why a lot of folks enjoyed the game here in Japan due to the art style and characters.

That was the question I forgot to ask! They warned not to sell unique items, but failed to show what a unique item looked like. Didn't look like I had any unique items and hadn't sold anything yet.

The + and - should be self-evident, but I don't find it very clear what is being +'d or -'d. IIRC, there is an armor symbol, which I assume is physical defense; a circle-ish symbol, which I am guessing is magical defense but could be anything; and a shield symbol, which is... block? Or maybe physical defense?

As for the rest, I never re-entered demon circles after clearing them so I never saw the menu. Didn't pay much attention to what the vendors were selling since the game basically tells you only suckers buy their equipment from the stores.

You know Im not sure how they localized it for the US version. the JP one was all kanji or simple stuff like HP / MP etc. The only real reason to go to the elf is for the gems for the most part. The other stuff he sells is too insanely expensive anyways at start. Though I think he sells a unique item. Maybe the blacksmith too. Dont remember 100% as have not played in a long time when it comes to the smaller details.

We must be playing different games because there are breasts hanging out everywhere and a young girl in underwear in the basement. Innuendo aside, Conception II is far more tame than this.

Is there no digital manual?

There "should" be one considering the JP one had a digital manual. Im looking at it right now as confirmation for you. Its not on the title page before you boot up the game? The Book with the ? on it

That hammer is AWESOME for the status effect it causes. The damage isnt there but the status effect is pretty useful when it procs.

The elven gear granted it will take a while to harvest you can get it yourself from the gems + circles. Forgot which dungeon had it though...

Forgot to mention also plan on doing the impression thread / OT thing for Tokyo New World Order: Operation Abyss also. But same general stuff as what was mentioned with the reply about the Stranger of Sword City reply.

I assume it would explain the stats and stuff if there is one.

No idea, considering I never bother with the manuals. Hang on let me flip through it. It explains a bunch of other stuff but what exactly the stats are dont see a page for it. Talks about other useful stuff though. Since you got the game go flip through it. Dont assume if you can actually go look for yourself. lol
