What does it mean supports 1080P/60 FPS? consoles target? cause mention PC supports it is pretty much a no-brainer, PC will run it even higher if you have the specs so it make sense they meant this for consoles.

I always had wondered a similar thing.

2 doom games would be preferable, one about extreme survival horror with amunition preservation and avoiding combat in clever ways.

And another that would basically play like doom 1 and 2.
Exactly. Doom 3 tried to give you a sense of horror and what not. This doesn't sound like it.

So, I don't want to be too cynical about a game before even getting to watch a video of it, but whenever a company talks about their product an name drops just about everything the fan base wants I get worried about it being skin deep only. Are they mostly concerned about checking Gore, Run n' gun and Demons on their development check list, or are they bringing their own take on these features focused around the team's vision of the game?

The Polygon article mentioning Double Jumping as an ability did way more to excite me than any mention of melee brutalities, since that's something that wasn't in a previous Doom game but sounds like it could fit in with good map design. Hopefully more details like that one surfaces before the full reveal.

Because it's visceral and adds feedback to the gameplay.

Also, because its a fucking Doom game dude.

Are all elements of classic games beyond question just because we have nostalgia for them? Can we really say that the horror of pixelated gibs were what made the original Doom a seminal video game classic?

Hate to bring this up, but the shootings gave the games the bad name. I've played DOOM since that 95 Packard Bell was in my parent's room and it had never been a problem in my life until the news stories came out. It gives the series a bad rep, even if we have stuff like this to reference to.

gates-doom2-video.jpg

Bill Gates for crying out loud.

Absolutely the same with me. I grew up with these games and was baffled by the suggestion that killings were a direct consequence of such games when me and no one I knew had any such thoughts. We even played such games with teachers at after school club. Also Packard Bell 909D for lyfe.

Didnt get that either. Saying that a game supports 1080p/60fps on PC is completely irrelevant nowadays.

Sounds good to me. But I want to hear more about the enemy designs and art style of the game. A video wouldn't hurt either. ;)

"Ok"

Nice comeback jito.

Let's not kid ourselves and if you say "Well DOOM is all about the GOREEEEEEEEEEEEEE" no you're wrong. That's the brutal doom/sgt mark style of thinking.

In case you guys don't remember. Doom did have gory death animations and string up marine bodies. It was more about the great level layouts as well as the superb gameplay.

No sympathy for the people upset by the violence glorification. Bring on the gibs.

I hope they put in the "FUCK YOURSELF!" Taunt from Brutal Doom

more or less true to the originals, gore gore gore, announced to the most receptive possible audience while the rest of the world will have to wait until 2015 (?!) to see something, little to no details about shooting/level design/etc. as far as I can tell

Sounds interesting, for sure, but still far from sold. Looking forward to being pleasantly surprised.

No it was the gameplay but the tone and theme did not hurt.

Maybe I'm confused by what they mean, but wasn't doom 3 a reimagining of the original doom as well? How many times is this gonna happen?

For anybody bitching about the violence and gore- WTF? Have you even played Doom? Check out Brutal Doom for reference. It's one of the best mods out there for any game ever. So yeah, over-the-top blood and gore is great. This is what I've been waiting for. I love Doom. I don't want a distilled experience. I want the most hyper masculine and violent experience I can get. I mean, gratuitous and pornographic in nature. Just fucked up satanic stuff all over the levels. Guts hanging from the ceilings, etc. THAT is Doom.

Sounds extremely good and inspired by Brutal Doom.
They made the right decision in the end to not follow other trends.
Absolutely can't wait!

What I liked about Brutal Doom was the dynamic gore. A stray shotgun blast taking off a demon's arm, a grunt's legs, etc.

I never liked the "finishing moves" animations that forced a third person camera angle.

From what I'm reading about this game, it sounds more like the latter (not the camera angle, but the canned animation).

Yeah I'm assuming that was a quick tweet and mangled with the console announcements. Would have liked to here that they were really going to push the limits with the game, maybe even 4k textures. Ah well...

Am i the only one here who is absolutely shocked by the announcement of ID tech 6?

John Carmack and company spent so much time and money getting ID tech 5 finished, then it launched with Rage and no one cared. Since then, ID tech 5 has been disliked by many, and is usually frowned upon when games use it.

There was even that rumor of bethesda trying to buy human head games (Prey creators) because they knew how to use ID tech and it was a way for the company to recoup losses off creating the engine itself.

Now, after the unsuccessful ID tech 5, they are using a new ID tech 6? John isn't even there anymore...and 5 really hasn't been around to long. I myself did not mind ID tech 5, but i'm wondering if ID tech 6 is just an upgraded/changed 5.

I don't really know or care, I just know its one of the things I like about Doom. If you didn't then I guess this new vision of the game isn't for you.

It's DOOM dude...

I guess so. It makes sense that fans of doom would go apeshit over Doom things. It just seems silly from my perspective. I'm not at all against violence, but at a point it starts to get stupid. There's a fine line between something well-done and something super cheesy, but I guess Doom has always embraced being more toward the latter.

"The game is called Doom, not Doom 4. It's an origin game, reimagining everything about the originals."--Stratton
I can't stand this naming convention. Off to such a bad start.

Doom will focus on high-speed movement and run-and-gun. Just like the old days.
This sounds good though. Looking forward to trying it out.

Man I need to see this footage. My imagination is too powerful and making the stuff described in those tweets seem better than they probably are.

Hasn't Idtech 5 been used in more games than Idtech 3 and 4?

Probably an altered id Tech 5, to give the engine a clean slate "name"

That's the big question. If it's a whole new engine, then I'm happy. If it's id tech 5, well, at least I know the gunplay will be amazing. TBH I'm not at all surprised there is an engine change.

People are going to jump on me, but i wished they maintained the slow, survival horror-ish gameplay of Doom 3

It sounds like they at least have some freaky atmospheric sections like those caves. I thought DOOM 3 was awesome from what I played of it, but I can't begrudge the series going back to its roots either.

Who said it won't have great gameplay and level design as well as gore. You're jumping the gun a bit is all dude. Wait for some more solid info before getting on the hate train.

And *shrugs* I like Brutal Doom more than base Doom. I'm glad this is where Doom is going.

Read the polygon article. Has exactly what you mentioned in the former from the sounds of it.
