Dragon Quest 1-8 coming to smartphones.

People saying SE are crazy.....why? I mean, they must have the sales data from their previous mobile ports to judge how well this will do.

I hate phone games and would prefer DQ8 on Vita, but there's no need to be so salty that you say these are gonna bomb just out of spite.

Is $10 per game feasible, or will it be $10 for 1-6 (per game), then $15 for 7 and 8?

Why not 9, or does Nintendo hold something for that?

Might as well embrace this DQ mobile future, so here's a few ideas how they can adjust the series to the high standards of mobile games: How about they make reviving party members an actual IAP donation? Or cap your level to one advancement per day? Purchasable character vocations is a given. You also know what to do with the casinos, SquareEnix.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
DQ remakes on mobile were expected, but VII and VIII too? That was surprising (even if remake isn't the right word, at least for 8, looking at screens). Still thinking DQXI will be on 3DS...maybe at first, with a mobile SKU coming after some time.

I can see 1-3 being $6-10
4-6 $14-16
7&8 $15-18

SE really thinks people are going to pay more money for what is essentially a long-term rental than what the market has already settled on for ownership of used copies of these old games. And if you ever get tired of your old PS1/2 discs, you can always sell them onward. Who do they think they're fooling with these digital prices?

As I reminded everyone a page or two back (and was ignored), according to Yuu Miyake, platform exclusivity for the series is at an end.

Forgot better armor, weapons, clothing, etc.

If you thought the bosses were hard already they'll purposefully spike the difficulty even more. But for $0.99 or $2.99, purchase experience points or better magic/weapons to beat the boss! Or otherwise grind for ten hours just to get strong enough to survive two hits!

The FF games were successful so these will probably do well in Japan at those kind of prices.

They're not fooling anybody. They're chargin way more for Chaos Rings and thr FF remakes and people are still buying them on thr App atore at the high prices, because of there reputation and knowing they rarely reduce there prices. They must be selling extremely well with there other IP's on the app store that they're willing to port almost all there DQ games on the IOS/Android stores

This is what really worries me. I don't want DQ XI to be a "super-lite rpg" with simplified rpg mechanics, microtransactions, tons of the game locked behind DLC and any other sort of mobile gaming non-sense. I want a traditional, deep DQ game.

DQ8 shots almost look like they were designed for a dual screen system at first, tehe.

I'm starting to think they expected a lot more from DQ7 remake sales.... now future is mobile!

this is pretty funny overall. haha

don't shoot.

They would release DQ on mobile no matter what it sold. Mobile is a model SE is heavily focusing on after all.

Anyway this doesn't really bother me. I hear DQ VIII on the PS2 is really good guys. If you want to play it without using a phone, I mean.

I am not happy about these on the smart phone but vita? You guys are dreaming lol.... If 3DS have no chance, what make you think vita have any.........

time to buy an android phone. :(

I hope that means we might see these games on either (or both) the Vita and/or 3DS.

But even then, localization is unlikely.

Aeana. Do you know if there is any reason why DQ8 is not available as a PS2 classic? A straight port would sell like crazy among PS3 users.

Ah I see they're not quite ready to announce the DQ9 super HD port for smartphones yet. Well, hopefully they get around to it before DQ11 is announced!

Are people trolling at this point? I believe so.

It's not just making phones games that I claim this. Square-Enix has been a company where they have bled tons of money on bigger projects for a multitude of reasons, and are relying more and more on mobile games as a counterbalance to this. How things are done at the company are in serious need of change. Sooner or later this seesaw is going to snap. Please don't think "oh no mobile game, they're done for", it's more of their increasing reliance on it due to the collapsing of other avenues of their own doing that has me concerned for the future of the company.

People say they're overpriced but if those same games were to be on eShop or PS Store, I'm pretty sure they'll cost more, yet no one complains. For example, iOS/Android version of FFIII is $15.99, while PSP version on PS Store is $19.99.

if they port them without compromises why not?
sadly probably japan only yet hopefully ports will be better than fft on iOS

and IMHO it's better to see port true to the original than mobage or card and micro transactions based half assed projects.
at least these are jrpg

Oh, wow. I don't know how to feel about this, leaning towards badly.

Well, here's hoping DQ73DS comes out in the West.

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

Cant see them putting them in iOS/Android only to then ignore their biggest market. At this point, having a DQ title on these system means that it has the best chances to be released outside of Japan. Especially when you look at the SE mobile offerings so far - they never bothered to translate Chrono Trigger DS for other european languages, but they did it for the iOS/Android version.

To those wondering about what this means about the future of Dragon Quest, I would like to bring you all back to this thread.

The main thing we can take from this is that the days of platform exclusivity for Dragon Quest are most likely coming to an end, at the very least.

The next main line Dragon Quest game will definitely be multiplatform. Android and iOS. Ugh.

I think their focus going forward is quite clear at this point. Once FFXV and KH3 is out, I don't see any giant AAA monsters coming from SE again. DQX and FFXIV will bring in steady money and they will focus on more reliable means of revenue.

Where do all of the Eidos IPs go then? Or do we consider them all doubly dead outside of Deus Ex?

After Thief is out and (most definitely will) sells poorly, I'd be surprised if SE didn't quit making west AAA games.

Maybe Eidos will split from SE after all.

SE won't make it out of the next gen alive is my prediction.

Capcom will. They have at least Monster Hunter that sells very well.
With the official game controller support coming to iOS 7, don't be surprised if Capcom port or release a real MH for iPhone and iPad. :p

You know, DQXI on Vita exclusive can resurrect the handheld. But SE would rather go mobile.

I say Sony money hats them now before it's too late like with FFXV!

Or Nintendo should money hat them before it's too late.

Pokemon X/Y
Monster Hunter 4
DQXI

What are you waiting for Nintendo!?
