Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen |OT| deep down darkness

Does anyone know whether this runs better on a PS3 or a 360? I'm split between buying it for one or the other. If I recall correctly, the original ran slightly better on the 360, albeit with more screen tearing. Does that still hold true with Dark Arisen?

Min/maxing is not necessary for this game. You'll be able to beat this game going pure Magick Archer. Weapons and Armor and have a much larger impact than stat growths when you level.

I'm aware, I just don't like feeling weaker. It isn't exactly fun using a magick bow than if I do less damage than I do using a regular bow.

I find this a pretty bizarre sentiment. I understand the complaint, just not in this instance. Mass Effect one repeating the same 2 space outpost interiors on every planet was beyond terrible, especially for a story based game. Coming across the same room in BBI 2 or 3 times in such a combat focused game where the enemy encounters are the draw, its such a minor thing in my eyes. To each their own

The reusing of stuff in BBI makes no sense to me either. If youre going to go down that route, just make the endless 100 floor dungeon. When I walked into the same room for the first time I thought I had accidentally back-tracked. I found it really annoying.

I'm not going to pretend its a game-killer, it's insulting though.

Wait how are you finding fighter easier than assassin?! If anything the assassin is just a fighter with more options available, less defense sure but he makes up for that with the short bow and being able to just 5fold arrow into weakspots. Seriously, downing a liquid vim and spamming 5 fold arrow at anythings weak spot will drop it in a matter of seconds.

The fighter has what? Dragon's Maw, which amazing damage but really risky as well as the positioning of the attack being a bit important.

The fighter is awesome definitely, but how is it easier?

Becuase I'm playing fighter as a tank which keeps my sorc and mage alive and allows them to nuke, stuff dies wayyyyyy faster if they're not constantly getting charged or need ressing.
My fighter pawn can't tank he is pretty much useless it seems.

I guess I'll try playing assassin with a shield, I don't like using the bow at all anyhow, aiming with a controller is like swimming up a river with cement underpants and sandpaper under your armpits ... and shooting shit from ranged skips everything that's fun about the action combat mechanics (realtime hit detection so you have to dodge and block)

Min-maxing in this game to use magic bows is super unfun. Play a Sorcerer for 190 levels, then when capped switch to Magic Archer?

Ahh I get ya now, yeah if your pawns are doing most othe heavy lifting damage wise it could make the game a lot easier just through the sheer control you have over the situation, especially if you're getting obliterated as an assassin. Assassin's have the lowest defense growth of all vocations though and their armor is kinda spotty but I don't really care much for armor unless it has +str and +mg stats on it I usually try to make it look good, which is why I always wear the eye patch and a shoulder cloak no matter what haha. Being in melee range feels really good in dragon's dogma.

That's extreme min maxing, I'm just talking about getting the magick damage augs which shouldn't take more than a few hours if i spend my time in the noble quarter post game, but being able to jump on a gorechimera's head and dire gouge it into submission or just unleashing a barrage of 5fold arrows into it and watching its health pool vanish is just such an adrenaline rush that it makes MA feel boring early on, it's probably a matter of me not spending enough time with it honestly.

Title update kinds of give it away, but shouldn't he specific this is a 360 issue? Far as I know it hasn't happened on PS3 at all.

This is exactly how I wanted to play my fighter, as a tank char with the pawns doin the work. It..was weird. I think now I get it, and would probably enjoy it, but ranged is so damn fun I'm not sure if I want to switch again. My ranged aim is perfect as well. =P

Is there an option to sleep/rest/fast forward the time?

I'm in Windbluff Tower and the darkness kind of took me by surprise. It's pitch black here, can't see anything and I'm the only one in my party with a lantern.

I don't really feel like waiting around for sunrise. How long is the day/night cycle anyway, in realtime minutes?
No. The only way to rest or fast forward is at an inn/rest camp.

You can ferrystone to Gran Soren, but the walk back really isn't that bad at night.

I was finally going to pick this up today from my usual store (JB Hifi), and was told that it was sold out! They had no idea if they'd get any more for some reason, and said to check out the nearby EB Games - which was also sold out.

Did Capcom understock this, or what?
The copy I bought was 1 of 2 unreserved copies in my area (that's out of 7-8 GameStops in about 7 miles in Vegas).

I think it sold much better than anticipated.

My preorder finally arrived yesterday. I put a few hours into it, just enough to get the first mission after getting a full team. I certainly wasn't grabbed by the game... It felt very slow and clunky.

How long until this starts getting fun?

At least till you make it to the capital city, all it takes is one OH SHIT THAT JUST HAPPENED moment and you will be hooked. The game gets more fun when you get better gear and more skills to play with as well.

I don't understand how anybody can think this game is slow or clunky. That's really not very specific. I think the controls are a dream. Responsive, full of weight, allowing me to control exactly what I want to do at any moment. Slow? Nawp. Game is super speedy. Unless you're comparing your character to Ryu Haybusa, I guess. Then maybe?

All I can say is that...there was a demo. Should've tried that out.

Dunno, I was having fun from the tutorial. I also spent an hour running around the rooftops assassin's creed style and enjoyed it more than AC.

umm is there anyway to speed up time? I need to run back to grand soren from talking to the guy about the slab, and it is dark. Or do I just have to stand here until it becomes day?

Go to the inn and rest until morning.

edit: oh, misread. Nope, aside from Inns you can't speed up time. I don't recall you needing to outside of the city.

So quick question, when you reat till night does anyone happen to know the exact time it sets you at? I think Night in DD only counts from 9pm till 3am, at least that is when bloodlust is active but resting till night feels like midnight.

I wish the game had a clock.

Thanks to those who've taken my pawn for a spin! Got some RC last night for the first time with DA. I've been hiring pawns exclusively from the list too.

Everfall. I've got some pretty gold lion armor so far, but not much else. So far, the real reward is enemy mixes, because damn. Things got rough in the wight, hellhound, chimera and gorechimera room.

Assassin with sword and bow is great. I love how the sword attacks feel weighty. I intended to switch back to Ranger, but it will be hard giving that up.

So the downside of this stellar combat is I've leveled like crazy because I want to fight everything that moves. I worsened this without realizing it by bringing lower level pawns. Can I reduce xp without hiring high level pawns? I would like to do more fighting in Everfall and try DFing equipment without getting too ridiculous.

That said, I fought the archydra last night and had my revenge. The first time I landed in that room I had 5 strongwarishes left. The lv 17 healer pawn was immediately eaten; total carnage ensued.

Should I just start BBI at this point? I went in there around level 55, went to a dreaded rotunda and beat some cyclops, and then I ran the hell away from death to finish the main quest. I want to do NG+ eventually, so I could start that up in hard mode and do main quest with BBI for flavour maybe.

(Sorry for wall of text).

Gwendal's a fucking beast. I've been using him for 10 levels now. Love acquisitor pawns.

Awesome, thanks! I'm glad to hear he's helping you out. I've been trying to upgrade his equipment and it's slow going. I never want to put a helm on him because the way ponytails flip around in this game entertains me immensely.

If we don't need RC, should we take our name off the GAF list?

I don't give two shits about RC - the amount the game gives you free for porting vanilla data is basically all I need for the entire game. I just like sharing my pawn with people and looking at other people's creations.

Yeah, I spent half an hour perfecting my pawn's face - no way I'm obscuring it with a helmet.

I was under the impression resting until morning put the game time at 6am and resting until night put the game time at 9pm.

Could be totally wrong though. They should have a clock.

Don't be a damn wimp! :)

Just save, go. If you die, you lose what? 5 minutes?

So I did the escort quest for that little black haired witch grand-daugther girl, and now I want to do another quest that involves her but she isn't showing up on the map quest marker. I thought she would be in her little cabin in the witch forest right? I don't want to trek out all the way there and have her not be there. And no, she didn't die on the escort mission, I took her all the way there safely.

It's not about RC. I only exclusively use similarly leveled GAFFer pawns. Cobalt used mine, despite my pawn being like 90 levels lower, and I appreciate that. So I try to do the same with other pawns. Might as well use GAF pawns instead of some random dude's pawn who doesn't even play the game anymore. So, no - keep your name on there.

No! The more on the list the better really - lots of people want to be at even levels and stuff or are looking for a particular class so it's good to have a lot of players there. I haven't really found a huge drain for RC yet. I think all I've spent it on is those inclination potions and the char editor item.

Yep, so many pieces of strong equipment just get stored because they look bad.

As much as I love this game, it is getting very frustrating having to run so far to get anywhere. Oh well, still a great game.

Thinking of switching from Ranger to Assassin for a while, as fun as Ranger is I kind of want to chop some stuff up. Will any of my dagger skills from Ranger carry over?

That's the main reason I'm on the list - so I can borrow from people who are actually playing and can appreciate the RC and feedback. One handy thing about DA is that it puts that "no gifting" symbol next to any pawn not from DA, which is basically a roundabout way of telling you who's playing and who's not.

Got this yesterday for 360, only played a bit (delivered the hydra's head). I'm enjoying it although I am getting my ass kicked severely in certain areas. The first was when I tried that mission in the well, then on my way to the aforementioned hydra head mission I went left, killed some wolves, then bandits pushed a rock down a hill and proceeded to mess me up numerous times until I just decided to move on. I'm guessing (hoping) that these are both situations where the enemies were levelled up to stop me going that way and in the future when I'm suitably levelled they'll be a piece of piss.

Playing sword and board because I'm uncreative. Teaming with mages at the mo although I'll swap one for an archer because quite frankly I don't need all the magic they're offering me at the mo. I do like how the companions are just as destructive as you are, if not more. I wanna smash some crates (I loot far too much, I pick up everything) and so do they!

Can't believe they removed the B'z song btw.

I stocked up on a ton of potions myself, though it helps they're not that pricey RC-wise once you get a ways in. Too bad summons seem to be a rare occurrence post-DA release rather than something to take for granted.

Wow I just ventured into the Rift, what a great concept.

I parted with two of my pawns, it is very cool that I can send the pawn away with a gift and a message for the creator. I had nothing worthwhile in my inventory, so I gifted a healing potion and commented on their strength and honor. And great beauty haha, the mage was stunning.

Very cool. How do I know if someone used my pawn? Can they only use him if I'm not playing the game?

I'm pretty sure that Rangers have no unique dagger skills, so they should all carry over.

Ah, interesting. did not know that

Prophet: I'm about to release your farm so that I can solo farm Daimon. Let me know how many RC you get.
cool, will do.

I'm in the process of finally dragon forging my pawns equipment, once I'm done I'll save. Going from melee based classes to magic is definitely an experience, kinda frustrating.

I don't use the commands anymore because secondary would keep drifting to guardian from the 'come' command. It's still a crapshoot. I was in a room with a bunch of bosses and prioritized taking out the adds so they'd stop interrupting the mage. After a couple of rooms like that my pawn's secondary had changed to mitigator; he probably learned it from me. I think the only answer is to keep checking and have a buffer of a whole bunch of potions so it is stable for longer.

The potions are also dupable at black cat for 350G (?) I think. However, after a certain point it's better to buy with RC since you'll want the black cat forger to be making rarely found materials.

Three questions, I'm just starting out and want to get some bearings:
The BBI stuff is the DA content right? It scales to your level? I'm not a fan that they took the Bethesda approach to this additional content of just giving you an instant alert to its whereabouts and pinning it on your map. Is it recommended to just ignore it for now and play it as end-game content?

I have 9 vocations available to me, is that the total amount or will more unlock later?

Lastly, because of reasons I hate having my character use magic in games. Is it viable to just go with pure non-magic and having a magic pawn as a buffer/assist?

I'm about 5 hours in and this is what I've been doing.

I'm a Strider, my main pawn is a Fighter and I have two Mage/Sorcerer pawns as backup. Works pretty good so far.
