Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen PC |OT| Wolves hunt in 4K

I bet that loli pawn is making mad rift crystals though.

I reinstalled the game yesterday just to check how many RC I accumulated, I haven't played it since jan. My pawn is a female lv200 mage with the right alignments, mostly goldforged lv3 BBI gear, Legion's Might (auto resurrect after a few seconds) and useful spells. I mean, have you tried finding a pawn with anodyne AND halidom?

I'd totally rent her if she's geared up sensibly! Hell if you really need RC I can take her for a BBI spin some time.

My male pawn is doing all right. Probably have a few Gaffers to thank though.

Interesting ending. From what I gathered:
You are the final Arisen, since you killed yourself without having a successor lined up. This means there is no more "God" and the world is freed of the cycle of Dragons + Arisens. Your pawn is now human and takes your image, like Selene did with her master... which was weird in my case because my Arisen was a dude and my pawn was a lady, so I kinda forced a sex change on her. Sorry!

Speaking of pawns, one of my Steam friends (not sure who) has a level infinity pawn that I can rent for free. Is this a bug or is the pawn just max level? I haven't used her yet because I figured she would be so OP the game would be made trivial.

Hot damn what a throw

Morrigan Stark

Yeah that's normal, all pawns on your friend list are free to rent regardless of level. That's the whole point of adding friends for the game haha.

Level "infinite" is really level 200, it just stops at this point. And yeah they're OP if you rent them too early, however renting OP pawns will also make your XP gains far lesser if they kill enemies much lower than them, as to somewhat discourage OP pawn rental I guess.

Holy shit, BBI is no joke.

I literally had a 30 minute fight against a Condemned Gorecyclops this morning. I had an absolutely terrible party setup so it was partially my fault -- I was a Mage with Sorcerer, Fighter, and Warrior pawns. The Fighter and Warrior pawns were worse than useless for most of the fight; they kept running toward me (bringing the Gorecyclops with them) while I was trying to cast spells from afar. My poor Sorcerer pawn kept getting one-shotted. I was trying to heal and enchant them, but it was pointless since my Sorcerer was always dead and the melee pawns weren't doing shit, so I had to act as the main damage dealer... as a Mage. Usually pawn AI really impresses me in this game, but that fight was a total disaster. They even had good inclinations...

Anyway, thankfully I maxed out the Mage vocation shortly afterward, and switched to Sorcerer where I expect to have much more fun blowing shit up.

Haha, yup that sounds like good ole BBI. Goddamn, I can't wait until I'm ready for BBI, I'm still pretty early in the game (doing that awful Fournival eviction quest). But I dream of returning to the home of
Eliminators, Zombie Dragons, and Matt Daimon
.

Mmmmm, the BBI loot is so good. Got the Bane Archistaff right after switching vocations to Sorcerer.

Did they? What were they? If they kept running towards you, it sounds like they were Guardians?

Fighter was Scather/Mitigator and Warrior was Scather/Utilitarian. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

They seemed bugged tbh. When they weren't drawing the Gorecyclops toward me, they spent much of the time just running around and jumping. It's like they were constantly de-aggroing from it. When the Sorcerer and I managed to down the Gorecyclops at one point, they just stood there and didn't attack.

I see. That sucks. I hate when that happens. The AI can be surprisingly good at times, and then you have these moments where you just go "NO STOP IT YOU STUPID USELESS ARGHH" :(

I am almost always the damage dealer. Actually, I am everything in BBI; that is what I get for going there underleveled in hard mode. I fought an Elder Ogre as a Magick Archer, and the only thing that did noticeable damage to him was high Levin using Frigid Finger (strong mage equipment from BBI). I spent a lot of time spamming that move and running around reviving everyone with a lot of close calls. The stupid Ogre only has two bars and half left, so he goes apeshit and one-shots everything in seconds; I couldn't cast a single Levin. So he one shots me and I fuck off to Orla to purify cursed equipment that I was farming.

My main mage pawn was kinda acting extremely stupid. I changed her inclinations to Utilitarian/Mitigator, and she is much better now at buffing, casting and healing; spell-syncing is cool too. I looked up mage vs sorcerer because it was an often discussed topic where people claim that Sorcerer is just a better mage, and you don't need healing/debuffing because you can stack healing items (I have a lot of RC and money). I have Grand Anodyne, but I am not sure honestly; people say stack spring water but it isn't effective when you have 2k HP.

On a side note, I think leveling up with Warrior to raise my HP, alongside with Basition, made surviving much higher in Hard mode. I got a secret augment that gives your HP a chance to drop to 1 instead of 0; it could be very helpful but I don't get hit that much to begin with unless I have very low damage output.

Dude what. Magick Archer is the best class for BBI, and Elder Ogres, as well as Garms, get totally wrecked by Ricochet Bolt/Hunter. Seriously, try it in tight corridors and watch those HP bars melt away. It's also much faster and safer to charge than casting magic.

Oh wow. That timing as well.

I just had like a 3 hour session out of nowhere. Got stranded in unfamiliar places, feeling weak, night fell, wolves growled all around. Fought a huge ogre for the first time, then a chimera, was ambushed by a lot of bandits. God this game is pretty great. One of the best experiences with a game for a long time. Hope to write something more cohesive about it.

Holy shit, BBI is no joke.

I started BBI around 45 level and quickly realized that was a mistake After few hours of a really hard time and many, many deaths, I finally surrendered. The DLC is really tough and even normal encounters can be pretty hard if you're not prepared. However, it teaches you to really pay attention and look for enemies' weak points instead of using brute force. I struggled with the Gazer boss fight until I finally stopped and started to look for patterns in his attacks.

It's definitely a giant step-up in difficulty from the regular game; it feels very much inspired by Dark Souls.

This morning I ran into my first Cursed Dragon. Jesus Christ what a monster... it killed me about a dozen times, but I had a good amount of wakestones on me so eventually I was able to grind it down. By far the hardest enemy I've faced yet.

It's really a shame that both this and Dark Souls will probably never have really interesting mods. I'd kill for an "enemy randomizer" in DD or any of the three Souls games (at least Dark Souls 1 has the Perma-Gravelord and Aggression mods, but I want some more intense stuff).

An enemy randomizer mod (or mode) would really help the game. After a couple of hours of running back and forth through Gransys it starts to become frustrating / mundane to know exactly where and what kind of enemies will respawn. The first time you travel through Gransys there's this magic of not knowing what you will run into - whether you will be ambushed by a group of bandits, whether a wild Chimera will jump on you in the dark, or maybe suddenly a fucking dragon will drop on you from the sky. After that, it's like "oh, a group of harpies will come at me any second now", "oh, a scripted rock ambush", "wolves hunt in packs!", "oh, look - a chimera, again".

The only time the game managed to surprise me recently was during a Madeleine escort mission; she wanted me to escort her to Bloodwater Beach and suddenly, out of nowhere, a Griffin landed right in front of me and I was like "fuck you Madeleine, I've got better things to do now! :D" (she "died" during the fight, but who cares).

It should be possible to do something like that, given that enemy composition data has already been successfully modified. Though the amount of work that going through and manually modifying every enemy in the game would require would make it a difficult proposition without a significant degree of automation.

Exactly. That is why I am preparing MA for BBI. The thing is, I am under-leveled and under-equipped. Ricochet Hunter is great, but it barely did damage to that Elder Ogre because of my crappy Magician Crutch; I only got one cursed BBI lvl1 weapon and it was the Frigid Finger. That is why I spammed Levin as it is the only thing that did noticeable damage. The Elder Ogre is pretty much impossible to beat for me in his enraged state; he oneshots EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE; I can beat him by exploiting the geometry and aggro range but I have to leave my pawns die.

I am currently in Stage 3 of the main quest (after Wyrm hunt contracts). I will farm BBI lvl1 equipment and continue with the story; I feel like it is better to get BBI equipment and dragonforge them early on instead of bothering with base game stuff that will get replaced later on by superior BBI stuff. My current goal is to get a proper Magick Bow, get a bit stronger and destroy the stupid Gazer boss; I could have beaten him but I gambled with my low DPS and couldn't destroy his orb attack in time. Not sure if I will target lvl 2 BBI equipment after Gazer.

Dark Souls does have a mod that changes some monsters I think? Someone wanted to place bonewheel skeletons in every area of DkS1 if I remember correctly, but the closest thing to random stuff (not really random) is DeS with pure black world tendency; it isn't completely random though as there are invasions and static black phantoms.

As for Dragon's Dogma, BBI has random boss encounters and rooms with random mobs/bosses for farming. I like the combination of level design, difficulty and random stuff in BBI; goes well with the settings and atmosphere. Heck, even the time is messed up (affects buff and forces you to use Lantern all the time). Actually, time kinda messed up with the ENB (not sure if it even works properly in BBI but I get AO and lighting effects but probably not skylighting).

I've done it before as a warrior. Throwblasts are your best friend until you start doing good damage.

Haha, yeah for sure they're OP. Just made it out of gore cyclops room with a sliver of hp but overall bbi challenge seems pretty doable. Going to want to save the few throwblasts I have for later so atm I'm utilising choke points and plinking away at enemies.

Whatever happened to dragons dogma online? Was it any good?

1) Finding a decent pawn with the right inclination at my level (94) is exceedingly rare. It's become the first thing I look at, because too many times I've checked out a pawn and it's like, "Ok nice they have a strong dragonforged weapon, good skill setup, good gear, and their incl- goddammit it's another Guardian/Scather!" I know I could go on Reddit/Steam forums and find a level 200 pawn with perfect gear, skill, and inclination setups, but that feels too cheesy. For now I just browse and browse, and make sure to immediately favorite any pawn I come across who has good inclinations.

2) Right now I'm testing out a different party setup: Fighter (me), 2 Sorcerers, and a Mage. It works really well when I'm able to hold aggro and give the Sorcerers space, because both are Utilitarians/Challengers so they spell-synch effectively. Extremely satisfying when they destroy a strong enemy in an instant with a double nuke. The big problem is when I need someone to quickly assist me. I'm dead almost 100% of the time I open a chest and it's a Maneater, because I don't have any physical attacker pawns to quickly stagger it for me.

3) Is there anything in the main game that's worth collecting again in NG+? The only thing I could think of is the Wyrmking's Ring, which I just got. Now I have 2 to give to my spellcaster pawns (always giving a forged one to the Duke of course).

4) This time I let Aelinore get
strangled to death. Brutal! I actually felt kinda bad afterward... but that's what she gets for sending me to the dungeon in my first playthrough.

5) When playing Magick Archer, remember this:

I enjoy it. It's pretty different though. I mean it's the same solid Dogma gameplay you know and love(barring the changes to climbing monsters), but classes, quest structure, crafting, and even story/world building is quite a change. But that's to be expected when it's an online game now.

If any of you guys like playing Warrior, you will adore Warrior here. It is definitely the best and most fun class to use, huge step up.

Actually a new class was introduced a while ago. I think it's out now.

I guess you could pick up a second Blessed Flower from Quina's last quest, to save paying the cost to forge it, and
Grigori drops a unique weapon that changes depending on what weapon class you use to kill him.
I can't think of anything other than that though.

You came to the wrong neighborhood, motherfucker.

And then I tried to return as a Sorcerer and get my revenge, only to be foiled by the asshole corrupted pawns who wiped my entire party with double Maelstroms.

Ok thanks. At first I thought maybe the Gold Idol too... but it's worthless now that I can farm BBI, since I'm never gonna be buying weapons off vendors in Gran Soren anymore.

I believe I need a little help in the post game content. I'm doing the "collect 20 wakestones" quest and I keep running into locked gates that seem to have a usable door behind. The floors are so small, some have bosses and some don't, that I can't shake the feeling that those gates can be opened somewhere... Am I wrong? Is the game resumed to the jump down the hole, explore a bit and teleport home routine from now on?

I know what happens when I give the 20 wakestones, spoiled myself trying to find an answer to the questions above, so what's the recommended level to tackle BBI? I'm currently at 46 and was wondering if it's enough or I'll just be monster food.

Those doors can't be open. Ignore them.

I would recommend farming enough Wakestones to have a few left-over for gameplay use (depends on how many you are comfortable with), that'll give you a few more levels too and maybe you can get better gear (either as loot or buy them from the Everfall vendors). Then turn in the 20 wakestones, watch the ending, and as soon as you reach NG+ you can visit BBI.

You can also go to BBI before seeing the ending, but it might spoil the regular game's ending somewhat. If you really don't care about the lore/story then do what you prefer.

Note, turning in the 20 wakestones is the point of no return. So if you decide to visit BBI before watching the ending, don't turn them in yet.

Definitely agree on the extra Wakestones advice. I went into BBI with about 80 of them, and I'm down to less than 20 now. There are monsters in there that will one-shot you. I died around 10 times each in my first fights against Gorecyclopses and Cursed Dragons alone. BBI is no joke!

Ogawa-san

I'd rather sell those wakestones and start hoarding gold to upgrade BBI gear you're about to start finding. Every door is a checkpoint anyway, no big loss if you die.

Don't forget to keep a lifstone with you, just in case you need to get the hell out in a pinch. Like if
Death claimed all of your 3 pawns at once
and you don't feel like trekking all the way back up by yourself.

Wouldn't that make BBI even harder since I'm doing it in NG+ and not in NG?
Without spoiling anything, would you say the ending is good? The overall story is rather poor so unless there's a big twist I guess I won't be too concerned about spoiling the end by going to BBI before turning in my wakestones.

The difficulty doesn't change in NG+.

The ending is probably the most interesting part of the story, but even that is sort of predictable if you've been paying attention to the story so far.

There's not really any reason to not go to NG+ first though, as you can access BBI from the start of it. You can always just rush through the story again if you want to get back to post game. It'll only take an hour or two if you just do the main things and only do the minimum amount of quests for the Wyrm Hunt etc.

Them Rift Crystals. The only thing left is to get better equipment for my pawn and probably try to increase her HP a bit by leveling her up as a Warrior.

Edit: I killed The Gazer too. I just reached level 60 after killing it on Hard mode; I have access to higher level BBI gear now. I guess I will not waste any time looking for vanilla game equipment.

Unai

Then what's the point of NG+? Does anything change at all or is it just a chance to reset and try a different class without losing everything?

It's just there if you want to play the game again without loosing your gear, character progress, fast travel stone locations, etc. If you are playing on normal you can change it to hard but that is it.

I've started playing this game a couple of days ago (despite having it for several months), and it's really great so far!

I have a small problem though - all the pawns i can get from my steam friends are too high-level, and hiring them would probably trivialize the game.
Seeing that there is a sale going on, i thought that there might be some people like myself who just started the game and would also like to have access to pawns with a more reasonable level :) I'll leave a link to my steam profile for people who might want to share their pawns with me, or to utilize mine (she's level 12 at the moment i think). Quote to reveal the profile link

1) Daimon down! What a tough bastard; I died on my first couple tries because my whole party got stuck in that bullshit vortex move. After that I learned to run away and cast Gicel at his face to stagger him out of it before he killed my pawns. My winning party setup was: Sorcerer (me) + Sorcerer + Mage + Fighter.

2) At first I didn't enjoy playing as a Sorcerer, but then I learned about spell synching and now it's probably my favorite vocation. I set up my main pawn as a Utilitarian/Challenger/Mitigator Sorcerer so she spell synchs with me, and we make an incredibly powerful team.

3) I cannot play this game without a Mage in my party. At least not until I get better armor. But it's not just the healing I depend on, it's also the ability to have my status ailments cured without having to haul items around.

I tend to prefer that too. I know about the whole holy water bottles trick, I just can't be arsed to warp there and re-fill them every time and carry all that shit.

Did you beat Daimon's
true form
, by the way? If not...
do revisit the entire BBI. You will be surprised at what you find. ;)

Ugh. That stupid purification pre-determined RNG mechanic. I've been trying to get a damn BBI magic Bow since forever. I finally got to Black Abbey, and I farmed the chest that has Herald's Helix; I was worried that the next yellow purification is going to be that magic bow.

Guess what? I get back to Orla and the first lvl1 yellow weapon I get is the fucking Herald Helix. This is literally a joke. On the bright side, I got my first level 2 weapon which is stuck on Helmbarte for yellow (top tier dagger) and Hallowed dragon (top tier too) for blue. I might choose a an archistaff instead because I will try to increase the Magic stat because mine is like 208 and str is 300 because I started with fighter, warrior and finally MA before ranger.

On a side note, some of those chests have horrendous spawn rate for level 1 weapons. I recall opening one more than 30+ times without any luck. FFS I have access to level 2 weapons now. After farming chests for a LONG time, I get freaking duplicates, which forces me to purify a color I don't want right now.

Edit: Damn. I just smoked a Garm with that hallowed staff. No more running away from Garms (or waiting until they fall to their death).

About to play this game for the first time. Can I get some tips before starting?

Like, what is a noob-friendly, all-encompassing sort of class? And what difficulty should I start on? Keep in mind I love a good challenge in my games. I'm a Souls vet, and have little trouble with those games. I'm wondering if I should begin DD on Hard mode.

For difficulty, it's up to you. I played on Hard but it's honestly a bit more tedious than it is challenging. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

For a noob-friendly starting class I would go with either fighter (you can block) or strider (you can use ranged attacks, and eventually roll-dodge too, early unlockable skill).

Also, read the FAQ in the OP ;) It's full of "starting tips" like that and nothing spoilerish.

It's hard but not unmanageable. However I wouldn't recommend it, especially for a first-timer, as it also gives double exp/double gold so it messes with leveling and economy curve. IIRC the way damage vs armor values work early game makes hard mode just tedious as everything is a tank including bats and rabbits. Save hard mode for NG+.

Nice one dude, now it's time to through BBI again. The real Dark Arisen starts here :)
