Durante pls: Metal Gear Rising PC won't support higher resolutions than 1080p

If it is truly locked this game has too much attention to not be modded to support it. It's pretty much inevitable.

Again, no body knows that nor should expect it.

It's possible, but that doesn't make it inevitable. Some games are tougher than others to get right.

If it's not a game you would be willing to play at 1080p/60fps then you should not buy it expecting modders to allow more options.

This assumes that modders are and will always be there to fix the game which is asking a lot.

STOP SHITTING ON MY MOTHER'S HEADSTONE
The norm for a (3D) PC game is (and has been for almost two decades) to run at every resolution supported on the system.

It's really simple: people expect it to work the same in terms of available resolutions as about 2000 other 3D PC games released over the past 15 years.

Honestly, trying to portrait that as some "out there" requirement is at least as tiresome as the hyperbole in the other direction. It's not asking a lot, it's not technically challenging, it's not unusual. It's the standard.

The example you bring up (triple monitor and the very unusual aspect ratio that comes with it) is very different. That's something which actually requires some extra effort to support, and which is not the standard expectation across 95% of the 3D games released on the platform.
I don't get why this is so difficult for people to understand.

Someone get Platinum games a downsampling guide.

Platinum's face when

I hope Platinum can patch it later on.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Yo plats get nVidia dat Rising code and give us PhysX bells and whistles on dismemberments and HDAO+.

Also give the code to AMD so wet dat TressFX 2.0 Raiden hair. So lush. So pretty.

It's a parody of the sentiments occasionally expressed by the more obnoxious among PC gamers.

It would be a parody if it was based on reality. Many people have explained already that the availability of resolution options is not about bragging or satisfying those with high-end rigs but about future-proofing a game. But I guess being edgy by resorting to dumb stereotypes is more important.

It playing with reality is why it's a parody -- it's not supposed to be taken seriously.

I read it as a parody of the sentiments occasionally expressed by the more obnoxious PC detractors.
It's the other way around.
EDIT: Yeah, what Durante said.

Well, it works on both levels. Every "side" has its zealots.

We are. That's why I said "It works on both levels", "it" being the post.
Yeah, I get why you said it, I just think you are wrong about who he was targeting.
Anyway, let's drop this. It's not important enough to become the central argument in this thread.

I just preordered the game. I really hope this gets fixed so I'm not playing a blur fest on my 2560x1600 monitor.

I haven't read this thread, but I think the situation is pretty simple for anyone who might not understand.

Japanese develoepers don't seem to understand yet that in the west, PC games simply don't have resolution and framerate caps. They don't. That's just the standard of the platform now.

To offer an analogy, PC gaming is kind of like the autobahn. The speed limit is only what your machine can handle.

Also, upscaled resolutions don't look unplayable on TVs because most HDTVs today have decent scalers. Computer monitors don't. Running a game on a monitor at any resolution lower than its native looks much worse than the same situation on a TV screen.

Computer monitors dont need scalers. GPU does all the scaling, just like consoles.

That being said, only having up to 1080p resolution support is like releasing a car with an actual horse powering it instead of a modern engine.

I prefer my 7950 to do the scaling on both my monitor and TV(It does the best job).

1080p on my 2560x1600 monitor is blurry and ugly. I half-prefer playing at 1280x800 because that's a perfect multiple of my native resolution and it doesn't have any blurring. Course, the pixels are the size of my fist.

It kills me to say this but I'm out until a price drop or >1080p support.

No one really knows that and shouldn't expect it either.

I can't even think of another modern 3D game that supports multiple resolutions up to 1080p and THAT'S IT.

The point is that by default, it does not support resolution above 1080p and realistically we don't know WHY this is and won't likely know until it comes out.

It's likely a dumb reason, and it's likely theres SOME workaround for it.

But that's not a guarantee and buying it with the expectation that it will - if the higher resolution is really important to you - is a bad idea and setting yourself to get burned if there's some reason why it can't be or isn't fixed.

We can't always expect Durante or modders to fix everything, and there might be instances where people can't or won't fix something. People should be able to willingly accept that.

Preorder cancelled. Fuck.

What is it with Japanese games and lousy PC ports?

japanese gamers don't play pc games

and if they do they're 800x600 resolution visual novels with porn (because anything without porn doesn't really sell)

(the idea is that they go to work on a computer all day, they don't want to go home and be on the computer again. Makes sense that mobile gaming is up for them because they can play on the train, then spend time with family when home)

this is stupid isnt resolution just a option in the engine? like render the game x by x are they just limiting the game to 1080p on purpose because almost every other game has no limit it will let you play at what ever your display resolution. Im 100% sure we will be able to change this value
It's not that simple. You have to consider FOV, aspect ratios, HUD, font scaling etc.

Being an avid eyefinity gamer, I am definitely bummed that its 1080p out of the box. I guess tonight I'll give a crack at seeing if I can write up a Flawless Widescreen plugin for it.

Most big budget games use HUDs that scale to any resolution without the need for additional art. And in this case, I'm not even looking for anything beyond 16:9 support so the FOV would be untouched.

Anyway, Durante already posted that the 1080p cap is ridiculously trivial to remove and he's already made a proof of concept mod for personal use but he'd rather have Platinum do it for everyone else since it's so easy (and because there are a few lingering graphical issues, as there were for Dark Souls and Deadly Premonition).

Maybe Platinum will surprise me with a quick patch but I'm not optimistic at the moment.
