What is this pic from?

Was it from last year's E3?

Edit: Looking at it again Shiggy looks shopped...

+ No Cammie Dunaway
+ THQ lauged at
+ 1/4 dedicated to new Zelda
+ Essentially all 1st party games shown
+ 3DS (... and 3DS ladies)

- Would it have been that technically challenging to guarantee no interference issues? Not that I minded, but it just looks bad for Nintendo.
- Still heavily dependent on Mario/Zelda/Metroid trio -- again not bad per se but novelty is appreciated.
- No Cammie Dunaway. She's paradoxically amusing.

Iwata presented a video of a few third parties and what games they were working on for the 3DS. Once THQ/Saints Row came up, the audience laughed. The audience seemed to applaud/not applaud at all (or laugh in THQ's case) in proportion with the quality of the developer/games shown.

I thought people thought Saints Row was what GTAIV should be. Still funny though.

I don't think people laughed because it's expected to be bad. They probably laughed because it was so unexpected and felt out of place. At least that was my reaction.

Vitality sensor scenarios:
1) They're still working on it but need more time to develop software to convince us because they know it's no good showing half-baked rubbish.
2) They ditched it because it wasn't working out so well and will think of something else.
3) They ditched it because Wii has less life than they thought and a successor will be released sooner than we all think
4) It was a red herring for other companies to throw them off the mark. But none of them would actually be stupid enou... oh...

Why did they laugh, was it because it was Iwata saying it?

either because saints row is so over the top in its mature content (i mean esrb rating qualifiers here, not thematic depth) that they actually hired a porn star to help develop the most recent version, that them working on nintendo systems is just so bizzare that it brings out laughter.

or maybe because they perceive saints row as a massive step down in terms of stature from the likes of metal gear and resident evil that were just mentioned.

Donkey Kong Country is a GOTS contender for sure, this game is going to be huge. I love Kirby, so thats also a +1 for Nintendo. Ikarus and Mickey could be interesting as well..but not completely sold. Skyward Swords looked like it controlled very laggy & akward. I don't care for handhelds and the graphics are still about DS quality, so really 3DS can suck it. Sure it'll sell though, despite how pointless an upgrade it may be. people are even getting excited about Goldeneye lol. But yeah Nintendo def. came the strongest they have in a while...not the runaway victory many are claiming it to be though.

You DO realize, that Ikarus was a 3DS game, which in turn means it is at least comparable to the PSP in graphics and that SS plays perfectly and just didn't work on stage because of interference, do you?

My reaction was amusement when I saw the THQ/Saint's Row title card, because of the former.

Not a step down in quality, just the idea of a Nintendo handheld getting something as violent as Saint's Row. Took me a while to get used to the idea of a GTA on the DS.

And this is what 3rd parties need to fight against with the 3DS, honestly. They've been missing from Nintendo's hardware for so long that it feels alien to have their strongest titles appear on them. That's why it's important for all of them to be onboard with as many strong properties as possible from the very start.

It's honestly just the most beneficial thing for them to do.

It has been reported that Nintendo didn't mention Vitality Sensor during the conference because they said it was too mellow for the E3 atmosphere.

I think it's utterly pathetic Ubisoft stole there idea. I reckon Nintendo for now on will only unveil their gadgets close to launch.

Has any journalist actually bothered to ask Miyamoto or Iwata (or any other Nintendo rep) what the hell happened with it?

EDIT: I see Vizion just responded at this very instant :lol

I didnt see the MGS screenshots before. Maybe saying it was slightly above DS wasnt fair, but it not being any better than PSP isnt that great either. If i was interested in the system, i'd rather trade 3d for at least Gamecube quality graphics.

Maybe Nintendo told Ubi they weren't going along with the Vitality Sensor, because I don't get why they would waste money on R&D to get their own VS.

Is it just me or does this mark the beginning of a shift back toward Nintendo? Despite Wii's and the DS's success, third party support has been lacking, especially for key franchises. The systems (particularly Wii) were written off from the beginning, but I think the momentum has now shifted and the next Nintendo console will probably see major franchises return to it if their system is adequate.

DS saw games like Dragon Quest come to it, but now we have Metal Gear, Resident Evil, Ninja Gaiden, Ridge Racer, etc. coming out for the 3DS. These are third parties bread and butter. Nintendo has a giant bulls-eye on them right now from Sony and Microsoft and they have a lot of work ahead of them. From a game library perspective, they look better than they have in well over a decade though.

I think the next Nintendo console may see similar support if they include all the features (Blu-Ray, online, graphics, etc) needed. They have to get it right though and can't skimp on features. The shift also seems to me that this gen is at it's height. I don't think we'll have another unveil of games like this unfortunately. Nintendo has to upgrade the Wii and when they do, Sony and Microsoft will follow suit. Therefore, it's unlikely we'll see the breadth of games in the quantities they are coming in again. All things being said though, there's an amazing wave of games about to be unleashed on all the systems.

On the Zelda tip - thats good to know. The stage demo made me LOL hard. I just figured it was really early in development.

Def check out the MGS 3DS thread. Has comparisons between it and the PSP and PS2 games, that both show that the 3DS one is a noticable step up, not only in lighting but in normal mapping and poly count.

As far as Kid Icarus is concerned, I agree though.

Not to mention the 3DS title is a prototype on new hardware, whereas the PSP game is a AAA tile developed late in the systems lifecycle.

Was anyone else surprised that the only ''casual'' game shown was Wii Party? Is that really all Nintendo plans for this year on wii?

I kind of wanted to see the vitality sensor. I still don't get how it can be incorporated into a game since it effectively requires one hand to go out of action. I guess next E3.

Very surprised. Metroid's in August ,Zelda and Mario Sports are next year...they're basically banking on solely this and a not heard of in ten years franchise with DKC to carry the first party holiday.
