E3 2017 - Hopes. Dreams. Predictions

-Ape Escape: Subtitle Involving Monkey Pun announced, utilizing all the weird shit on the PS4 controller no one else uses well, maybe optional VR.
-Ape Escape 3 on PS4 right this second to get you in the mood.
-Sly Cooper: The Movie trailer.
-But E3 is about games, says Sony Person, and thus, Sly Five, which isn't based on the movie. This fall. Sanzaru.
-Jak and Daxter are back in a new game, and it's out next Spring. The PS4 versions out this fall are to lead up to it. No idea who'd be developing.
-Crash N. Sane Trilogy is shown. Big focus on Coco's levels from Warped mixed into what's essentially a launch trailer. Reveals fully-playable Coco as opposed to just-some-levels Coco.
-Sony Person says "But that's not all." Trailer starts playing, Japan Studio logo, then the shocker: Naughty Dog logo. Crash Bandicoot sequel for May 2018. Behind the scenes it's obviously mostly SIEJ. Activision has 'approval rights' obviously but it's mostly Sony handling it.
-"Oh, and if you like kart racing we'll see you at PSX."
I want everything here. Especially the Ape Escapes :)

And on that note: show me the Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus Remake/Oddworld: Soulstorm Lorne Lanning! I'd love if this would be shown with a first trailer on stage.

A game that surprises me like Horizon ZD did when it was first introduced.
A PS Pro bundle or price cut.
Surprise E3 alpha for Destiny 2 (like Destiny 1).
Some early Borderlands 3 footage.
Crackdown 3 with destruction enabled in SP. If it's mp only they can keep it.

This skirts the lines of "realistic" in a few places but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't love those Nintendo/Sony conferences.

This is an interesting list. Let's run down some stuff:

EA: Everything checks out, though this time I'd bet we learn the name of that new Star Wars Visceral project since it'll come out sometime next year. You've probably nailed 90% of the conference, though.

Microsoft: It'll be very sad for MS if their new console is $499. Hopefully they can swing at least $399, because if Sony cuts the price for the Pro its going to look bad. You're very hopeful, though. Rocksteady reveal? And they're at Microsoft? It makes sense--Sony doesn't "need" them anymore, but MS needs all the partnerships they can get atm. A Fable reboot should be a given but I don't know if that's what they'll actually do.

Bethesda: Probably spot-on, actually. If Starfield is a thing at this E3 though it'll be near the beginning/middle of the conference though, because they won't confirm that its real unless its coming out in the same year.

Sony: You were doing quite well, but this one's a bit off. The way they showed off so much of Days Gone last year and the little we know about what's happening this year tells me its either a 2017 title or hitting early next year. Meanwhile GOW2 will likely be a Summer 2018 title and Spidey will be for the fall. Bloodborne 2 isn't a thing, replace it with some Platinum game maybe? And Deep Down is likely being retooled into Dragon's Dogma 2 with some strong online elements at this point because that's what'll make the most money. Love the remainder of your predictions though and I hope that's what happens!

Nintendo: I'm with you on everything, except I don't think we hear about Mother 3 because I feel like online and VC talk will be delayed for now. The only other thing I'd say is that Octopath Traveler will almost definitely get a release date. It's been six months and that game isn't that big. Your third-party reel is neat but probably not quite what we're getting. I'm holding out hope we get a Tales announcement during this reel, though! And a Metroid reboot would be dope but I don't know that's what Nintendo has its mind on at the moment.

Still, overall I'm betting this is fairly close to what eventually happens. 9/10.

So.

This E3 is kind of special, as I just recently got a new girlfriend I actually knew for 12 years and backthen she used to be my BFF.

The obvious thing to figure out, how I tell her I will spend my vacation time at home watching E3 instead of doing something with her like traveling this time around.

I really didn't know how to tell her - so in the end I just did. She's coming visiting me (she's living in the country next door) even though I'm busy with some real life crap and then the BIG E3 SUPRISE OF 2017.

She's going to watch it with me. Like what? I asked again. She's going to watch it with me. And I quote: "I hope they make another good halo like reach."

I didnt even know she ever played any video game. Appearently she was huge into halo reach, but she's like a total non gamer person. So we talked about some stuff, like games, movies I would usually not do - and she's a closet nerd.

So my biggest E3 dream already happened - I can watch it in peace, even together with my girl, and don't even have to "try" to explain why I take vacation days for this.

Bestest E3 already.

\Edit:

I don't even like Halo. Damn

I want Nintendo to announce different joycons neogeo style and nes style dpad. Also a new bio shock wouldn't go a miss.

I would love beefier joycons so I won't get cramps while playing. Some thicker and bigger joycons would be nice. Or even a right joycon with the analogue stick being at the top instead of the bottom. So I guess I want to see:

  • New joycons
  • FIFA 18
  • Spider-Man
  • Animal Crossing
  • Pokémon Stars

I can see it going something like this -

Microsoft:
  • Opens with Forza 7 running on Scorpio
  • Lots of info on Scorpio - final design, price, date
  • Updates for Forza Horizon 3, Gears 4, Halo 5 etc to run better on Scorpio
  • Shadow of Wardor running on Scorpio
  • Assassin's Creed Oranges reveal, again running on Scorpio
  • Crackdown 3 trailer + gameplay. It'll be showing the multiplayer and the destruction, as that's not in the single-player stuff. Releasing in early 2018
  • Sea of Thieves footage, possibly with a release date on Early Access
  • Indie trailer featuring games like Cuphead, Ashen, etc. Cuphead may be an 'available now' announcement
  • Bioware's Project Dylan CGI trailer reveal
  • Ori 2 announcement
  • State of Decay 2 gameplay & release date. Coming out alongside Scorpio
  • A new big IP from Microsoft. Don't know who by or what genre, but it's early on and we will probably get a CGI trailer and a nebulous '2018' date

Bethesda:
  • Opens with Fallout 4 VR
  • Shows a trailer for Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind. Possibly with some kind of promotion or free trial to encourage people to play it
  • Cinematic trailer for The Evil Within 2. Releasing late 2017
  • Gameplay trailer for Wolfenstein: The New Colossus. Releasing Spring 2018
  • Something for The Elder Scrolls card game, whatever it's called. I don't care
  • Trailer for Bethesda Game Studios' new game. No idea what it will be

Ubisoft:
  • Open with Assassin's Creed Oranges. Different footage from the MS conference. Gameplay designed to emphasise that it's distinct from previous entries
  • Trailer for South Park: The Shattered But Whole
  • Gameplay for The Crew 2. Coming late 2017
  • Gameplay for Far Cry 5
  • Maybe something for Just Dance or Trials or any other smaller franchises I'm forgetting
  • Gameplay for the new Rabbids/Mario game on Switch
  • Possibly updates on The Division, For Honor, R6 Siege, Ghost Recon Wildlands, etc
  • BG&E2 will not be there
  • That pirate game new IP which has been rumoured, I guess?
  • Some sales talk and Yves saying how much they love the fans before Vincent Bollore comes on stage, says Vivendi have completed the takeover and beats Yves around the head with a badminton racket

EA:
  • Opens with Battlefront II gameplay showing 5 or 6 minutes of an impressive campaign level. Probably something from the new films, like the battle at the end of Rogue One or the chase from TFA with the TIEs chasing the Falcon on Jakku
  • Sports stuff or whatever. I don't care. They'll probably get Maradona on stage for a 30 minute discussion
  • Josef Farez' new game
  • Need for Speed Payback. It'll look similar to Forza Horizon 3, but with a laughably shit plot that nobody cares about
  • Maybe some footage & a release date on Fi?
  • More stuff on Bioware's Project Dylan. Probably 65 minutes of talking heads and concept art of the development team saying how excited they are to be working on it
  • Close with a brief trailer for Visceral/Amy Hennig's new Star Wars game. Says merely '2018'

Sony:
  • Opens with Bloodborne 2 or Miyazaki's next Sony exclusive. Early 2018
  • Brief bit of talking and then on to a suite of trailers like last year. Starts with a gameplay demo for Destiny 2 showing a team doing a bit of free-roaming around the much larger environment before proceeding into a 'dungeon' and fighting a huge enemy
  • Next up is Days Gone; another gameplay demo. Shows riding the bike, a bit of exploration and taking on an enemy base
  • COD:WWII gameplay demo. Looks extremely impressive, shows a mid-sized campaign battle. Looks intense
  • Spider-Man gameplay demo. Shows traversal, combat, a side mission and ends upon Spidey confronting a low-level enemy like Shocker
  • Battlefront II cinematic trailer emphasising the campaign and mix of time periods
  • God of War next. I think they'll show gameplay emphasising the bigger world and more combat
  • Detroit: Become Human next. A cinematic trailer showing the different characters and their choices. Coming out September 2017
  • Devil May Cry 5 trailer & brief gameplay, coming in 2018
  • The new game from PixelOpus (Entwined developer), available now
  • Maybe some info on their smaller games, like Matterfall, Wild, and I can see a new game from Arrowhead being announced (probably not a sequel to Helldivers though)
  • They show Dreams next, with someone from Mm talking through as they go. Game looks incredible. They show some gameplay that starts off like a 2.5 platformer and then changes perspective and goes to an action-adventure, and ends up as a racing game. Beta for August 2017
  • Some PSVR stuff, I guess? Maybe announcing another small-ish game like Starblood Arena
  • Something like a family console bundle with Knack, Ratchet, Crash. Maybe an 'adult' bundle as well with Uncharted 4 (or Lost Legacy) and Horizon
  • Maybe a new Death Stranding trailer. I think it's still too soon to see gameplay
  • Hopefully a Horizon DLC trailer. Starring Nil. Coming early 2018
  • And to finish with, Sucker Punch's new IP. Could be The Sentinel, hopefully a sci-fi action-adventure. Maybe set on a derelict spaceship with the titular name

Sorry, I don't know enough about what to expect from Nintendo to bother writing something out.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
In January, Nintendo said the game was considerably finished, so a delay is very unlikely.

Better safe than sorry when it comes to Nintendo and dates. But yeah, I'm not really expecting a delay for SMO.

Nintendo:

  • 3rd Party Reel. Nier Automata

There's literally no way it's coming to Switch. They couldn't get it running well at 900p with no AA on PS4 and it has issues on PC as well. Unless they intend to run it at 720p with an unstable 30fps docked (subHD undocked of course), which would make it pointless anyway.

Would like to predict all the events, but since it's the one I'm most interested in I'll do Nintendo:

  • Starts off with skit featuring Yoshiaki Koizumi. He's playing Super Mario Odyssey in his Tokyo office when he suddenly realizes he's late for his flight to E3! He rushes off to the airport, but notices as he approaches the check-in his flight leaving. But there's something peculiar nearby; it's Mario's hat aircraft from the game. Mario is there, inviting him in, and Koizumi gladly accepts. Transition into...
  • New trailer for Super Mario Odyssey, with a shorter in-depth presentation right after.
  • Pokémon Stars for Nintendo Switch trailer. Coming to 3DS as well.
  • Splatoon 2 new multiplayer modes and maps trailer.
  • Short segment with ARMS as well, as Koizumi urges us to watch the tournaments coming up later during E3.
  • Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim for Switch trailer.
  • Monster Hunter XX Switch trailer.
  • Xenoblade 2 story trailer.
  • Koizumi gets a phone call; it's Reggie who's wondering why he isn't at E3 yet. At the same time the aircraft is suddenly ambushed by Rabbids taking over. Koizumi drops the phone onto the floor as Reggie reminds him that it's best that he arrives soon; sounds of Rabbids blare in the background. Then we transition into the Mario+Rabbids: Kingdom Battle reveal trailer and presentation.
  • The aircraft loses control because of the Rabbid hijack as it crashes down onto some alien planet and is destroyed. Koizumi stumbles out slightly scathed as he notices a Pikmin there. Transition to the reveal of a new Pikmin game for Switch. You will be able to get some smaller extra bonus features if you play Hey! Pikmin for 3DS as well. Spring 2018.
  • As the Pikmin pledges to build Koizumi a new ship he quips that "this may take a while, so let's look at something different while we wait" before transitioning into...
  • Fire Emblem Warriors trailer and presentation.
  • Koizumi's new ship is now ready and he starts soaring towards Earth. We then transition to the final game, which is a brand new IP from Retro Studios. It is a third person action game with Metroidvania-style progression set on an alternate version of Earth; it has quite a stylized artstyle. Best comparison in terms of gameplay would be something like Infamous, except it's not open-world and instead a bit more compact. Heavily uses motion controls with the Joy-Con for movement abilities and combat, although traditional controls are also possible. 2018.
  • Koizumi lands in Los Angeles as he gets ready to present Super Mario Odyssey on the Treehouse Live-stream immediately following the Nintendo Spotlight.

I hope for too much to write it all out but here's some of it:
Pokemon doing a Zelda and going Open-World. Sucker Punch doing a Guerilla and upping their game. Monster Hunter for PS4/PC. AAA Game with branching narratives not by David Cage. New Soulslike game by FROM. KH3 News. Halo for PC. Thatgamecompany's next game being as great as Journey. Cyberpunk 2077 info. PS All-Stars Reboot. Warhawk PS4.

Bethesda buys the rights for Mass Effect from BioWare/EA

So we'd have another Mass Effect with ME1-level combat, slightly better writing overall, considerably worse plot overall, about the same level of mission design, better worlds and more glitches which get less focus?

I'm not sure that would be any better than what we got with Andromeda.

That sounds about right to me, too. I'm not sure which I'd be less interested in: a Bethesda Mass Effect game, or a BioWare Elder Scrolls, but I'm leaning toward Bethesda's efforts. Fallout 4 was an even worse experience for me than Mass Effect Andromeda so far (I held out until several patches were delivered before starting either one and I'm finally slowly getting into ME:A.)

I know it's not happening, but I want F-Zero more than anything. My friend said to me tonight "Give me fzero or give me death."

My response.

Money can do everything. If you hired the best programmers you could and made the best possible use of the Switch you'd get it to look and perform similar to PS4 (at 720p probably)

we’ll make you a version for the Super Nintendo if you want
I'll take that version instead. 2D goodness and it'll probably be smoother than Switch bleeding out trying to run the PS4 version at 720p.

I dont want much just hope to see:

More of The Last of Us

and Horizon DLC

Could easily see neither but im happy either way since i know they are coming in the future.

Here are some things I keep thinking about that might point to some news at E3,

Spliter Cell is getting more BC content with MS - I am banking on Splinter Cell being the "one more thing" that Ubi has to show.

Borderlands THJC has been on sale all week last week. Borderlands 3 was announced over 2 years ago now, it is finally time to see it. Gearbox is being listed as a guest with Geoff.

Shawn Layden keeps referring to having "Star Wars" marketing deals with EA, in more than 3 interviews he has called it that, not sure why he doesn't just say "Battlefront marketing." He is of course referring to more than one game. Could be Amy Hennings game or maybe Biowares new IP? Or some other cool thing we don't know about.

Thatgamecompany still has their unannounced game listed for 2017, there have been suspicious tweets recently and with the addition of Journey to PS+ that makes me think that they are ready for E3 or PSX. I wouldn't even be surprised by a shadow drop on stage at E3.

Capcom and Sega both seem to be trying to rebuild their identity, outside of SFV DLC, MVC:I and Sonic that we already know will be at E3 I fully expect to see additional games from both publishers. As they haven't announced anything yet, both could have games big enough to have on stage with Sony, MS or a Nintendo Direct reveal.

Bluepoint games released the Nathan Drake Collection on Oct. 2015, then Gravity Rush Remastered in Feb. 2016. They are confirmed to be working on a remaster/remake for the PS4 again via a job posting. Whatever they have been working on should be ready to be shown at E3 or PSX this year.

From Software has only put out 1 game in the past year and has already confirmed to be working on at least two new titles. They have not shown at new full game in 2 years. I think it is time for them to make a big splash with something.

That Splinter Cell prediction is a big hope of mine but sadly I don't expect it :(

I'm wondering if all Borderlands 3 reveal/gameplay will be confined to media outlets (IGN, Gamespot, etc..) & other non-keynote events, or if they'll show up at either Sony or Microsoft's presentation?
