Pretty much in line with what i played (except maybe for Crimson Dragon, i'm having a lot of fun with the game)

Dead Rising 3 best launch title by far, amazing game all around

Need to read that Quantum Break preview :D

I've been seeing a lot of positive comments about DR3. Is it the best entry in the franchise?
Great fun and doesn't take itself seriously. I hated 1 and 2.this improves on them in every way.

Just finished the story mode and doing nightmare now. It's also great to do as coop with a Dick.

3/10 for Knack? The reviews across the board for that game have been absolute bollocks. It's not exactly GOTY or anything, but it's getting scored like it's a fundamentally broken, piece of shit movie tie-in game. It's a solid 6/7 at least.

Avoid. I've got far enough in that I might as well finish, but by God avoid!

No, no. IIt was shit game design.

I just played that section too and it may have made up my mind about selling this piece of shit.
I find reactions like this to be so over-dramatic. That section has a learning curve, yes, but it's quite manageable once you learn the technique. There's an escort mission a few levels prior to this that might be the most insanely inane designed, and poorly paced experience I've had in recent memory. Now THAT level, I don't who play tested that shit and thought there was anything fun or engrossing about it.

I really enjoyed Killzone but Knack's 3 is mostly deserved. Dead Rising 3 isn't worthy of an 8, in my experience with it. The extremely sluggish controls that you will swear is major input lag are off putting enough by themselves.

I'm not a fan of the AC franchise at all, but the sheer amount of positive word-of-mouth I've heard regarding AC4 has me thinking I should probably buy it.

I know. I feel the same. I've always been so ambivalent of the series but now everyone is praising it I really don't know what to think. It feels strange.

Yeah, I miss the days when game reviewers actually took the time to play through these games. Anyone giving this game a low score like that is full of shit IMO; that's just ridiculous.

He he. I swear to god it's like Killzone: Shadowfall murdered some people fathers and raped all the womenfolk. I get that some people don't like the game but the vitriol is unbelievable.

It's not that bad. It's a good game. I would say it's about a 7. Plus the graphics are Next Gen.

Ive not played enough of DR3 because im having a great time with Ryse and AC4. But from what little i played (co-op) the sense of Zombie apocalypse hasnt been captured this well. The share amount walkers onscreen is pretty impressive.

Sold well too, so im sure Capcom/MS are happy.

A point too high for Killzone, though I totally agree that Knack is a hot mess.

Very safe top ten, but it was also a great year for big budget games. Can't wait to dig into the list.

Have you played? This game deserves it.
I was also going "WTF?" after it was voted best action adventure on the VGX but after 60% progress I can honestly say "I can accept that".
Agreed. I put every other game on hold to play through AC4; I'm actually upset that I'm at 91%, and there's really nothing left in single player to accomplish besides finding chests and fragments. Guess I'll try mp now.

Score didn't stop Sony taking out a two page spread for Knack with Cerny's face on it.

It's really good, nails the atmosphere and the ship battles are a blast. It's invigorating to take the wheel of the ship and all your pirate crew turn and shout "Yarrr!". My only regret is that "You Are a Pirate" isn't available as a shanty.

Also, I don't think I've spent more than about 10 minutes in the modern day bits, which was always a bugbear.

interesting top 10 - glad to see Resogun about the top of the review pile, it was easily the best of PS4's launch lineup (high on my GOTY list too)

What's the point of wasting time with this when I could be playing Half Life.

It's a terrible game. All it is doing for me is graphics.

Tearaway at #3 shows how much EDGE loves Media Molecule. IIRC they gave original LBP a 10 and made it 2008 GOTY.

Absence of Link Between Worlds in that list is unforgivable. But then again, they included Rayman Legends, so I may forgive them.

As someone who disliked AC III a lot, I say: do it.

This game really surprised me. Best pirate simulator on the market.

I really like GTA V but it's not GOTY, it barely reaches the top 10 games of the year for me. Wonderful 101 is the best game but since Edge gave it a 6/10, that's not gonna happen and it did not happen.

I am also among those struggling through the Killzone campaign out of some misplaced sense of obligation. However, I think games journalism hasn't really caught up yet with the fact that games like COD, BF and KZ are mainly played (I presume) for the multiplayer and the review should be weighted towards this. Personally I think the multiplayer is excellent - and perhaps this is where GG put their focus.

Continuing this line of thought, maybe Titanfall will review better than it otherwise would, not being shackled to having to produce a campaign that meets reviewer expectations.

I expect the reason journalists haven't fully caught up to this is the commercial need to have reviews up by release day - thus not allowing them to spend time online. Not to mention that if they had, they would pick up and comment on all the bugs (e.g. in BF) and reflect these adequately in their scores!

What you're basically saying is that you have a different opinion of the game from the consensus among reviewers. That's fine. But that's also why reviews are only a guide. Fuck, if you can't trust them for this game, you can't really trust them for any because they are, after all, just an opinion. That may or may not match your own....
One of the reasons I think there should be mandatory demos for all games released - allows people to use more than just word of mouth / hearsay / reviews to base their opinion on.

Damn at that Knack score. The game is nothing special but there wasn't anything I found to be particularly bad in what I've played, just a bit overly simple and repetitive.

Nah it's not terrible. Come on, man. Get some perspective. Not sure about Half Life; is it out on PS4? :)

Face it bro, it's launch and we all just bought new PS4 without much to play on them. You could do A LOT worse than Killzone: Shadowfall and we both know it. It's good fun and the graphics are amazing. I don't even like FPS games and I'm enjoying it.

What do you find so bad about it?

If you're getting a PS4, AC4 is actually the must-have title you'd want for it (with Resogun as the other title you'd want for it). Not only the storyline and protagonist actually miles better than AC3, the 1080p graphic for PS4 is just drop-dead gorgeous. And I'm saying this as numero uno hater of AC3.

I'm glad to see ACIV on that list. I think it will be passed up by many but it's truly an excellent game. The storyline is 'ok' but even the present day stuff is somewhat interesting. The game itself, visuals, things to do, side activities, and ship battles really make this game stand out amongst others.

While I enjoyed the freedom of GTA V more (probably my GOTY) I find myself wanting to go back to ACIV more and more even while having a lot of other games that are 'new' (PS4 + just got a Vita, ALBW, etc ... ).

Rivals is a blast. A really well made racer. I'm not sure if others are NFS-fatigued, as I haven't played one in ages, but this game is great and even brought a sim-liking-wheel-only type of racer like myself, back to using a controller.

As for KZ, I like it. haven't felt the urge to really go back to it but I'm about 3-5 hours into it. Will try some of the MP later after I finished it. I played a couple games and found it enjoyable. As for story, it's as good as any of the ones out these days like the past CODs or BF I've played, nothing special but cool set pieces and missions are fairly straight forward.

I understand people saying it's mediocre, but it's FAR from being "suck".

Great top 10 for once. Can't disagree with a single decision.

That Knack review is actually kind of terrible. I can understand not liking it and all, but scoring it 3/10 is really just taking the piss. That's the kind of rating you slap on something truly awful or broken on some fundamental/technical level... not on some game aimed at a younger audience primarily whose worst crime is being incredibly bland in execution. I mean, I COULD be remembering wrong, but I don't recall all those throwaway movie tie in games we get every year being so aggressively marked down for similar reasons. Seems OTT.

Where did you get that from? Resogun scored the same.

Unlike other publications, in Edge a 5 is average. Knack is below average, a 3 seems about right.

How? They are an opinion you may or may not agree with, but they are often well-argued opinions.

They're anonymous, which means there's no accountability in terms of the validity of the assessment. If someone turns in a half baked review (as has happened at times) there's no comeback or reflection upon the actual reviewers personal credibility, unlike with most other sites. The necessity to be thorough Vs simply appearing to be thorough simply isn't there. Because you're never going to get called on it.

EDGE is great for the articles, but I'd definitely take their reviews with a large pinch of salt.

I'm enjoying Crimson Dragon a lot, but I completely agree with the content of their review. Giving it a 5 seems fair, even if it doesn't mean that you should avoid the game. ;)
None of the scores were unexpected actually. It's becoming harder to resist buying Dead Rising 3.

Lol, probably not in the top 20 or 30 of the year for me, though I only played it for a couple of hours. I rate at least 3 Wii U games ahead of it alone, and that's saying something.

what's with all the hate of knack on gaf? have people really played the game themselves instead of basing their opinions off of reviews?

Generous score for Knack. A truly awful game and one of the worst mascot games I've ever played. Waste of several manhours and everyone's time.

seriously?

i know it's not the best game ever made and it certainly has flaws but damn, it's nowhere near the horrible game a lot of the people in gaf makes it out to be.

I can't think of a single outlet who's reviews I trust more than Edge. Their reviews are fantastic for the more discerning among us.
