To be fair, Square only brings the original writer to work on their sequels. Tell me you don't want Tactics 2 by Yasumi Matsuno?
I think it really depends on the setting, the build up, and the language used. The unfortunate thing about skimming a bullet pointed list of spoiler summary is you basically lose everything in the actual craft of constructing and telling a story.
You could bullet point Argo and make it sound absolutely ridiculous. It's not like a terrorist bomb attack is exactly poor writing right away. How is the scene actually constructed? Who planted the bomb? Why? Why make it a blitzball (if it even is a blitzball)?
And it's not like sex magic is automatically awful. Game of Thrones has sex magic specifically for summoning as well. And Tidus and Yuna have been a couple for a while now, so they're probably past the whole "first kiss" phase. I'm kind of glad SQEX is actually entertaining putting more mature elements in the story, finally. Particularly with a relationship like this.
I'd just rather read the story myself, professionally translated. But I know that's probably not happening, so spoilers is the best we are getting now.
People should just realize that bullet points are not the same as reading a novel.

The official English translation for -Will- audio drama.
Please put this up in the OP.
And once again, it's NOT that bad if you listened to it by yourself without reading off other people's impression. There is some interesting plot points that can be explored in a third game.
Masterful spin right here.
SE's PR cleanup is in motion early and they're not even paying for it.
* Bullet points don't equal a novel. It's better to experience the real thing yourself.
* We don't know everything about the bombing
* Sexuality in fantasy isn't that unusual, even specifically as part of summoning rituals
* Sexuality definitely isn't unusual in relationships ...
Eh, I dunno. That whole "the last 7 days before we go and kill Sephiroth" sequence in FF7, I always thought Cloud and Tifa consummated their relationship since he had his memories and sanity back. But that's just interpretation.
I wouldn't say it's awesome, but it kinda..works.The audio drama thing is awesome. It's so obvious that them breaking up is not as it appears. She's basically got another plan in mind related to Sin so she probably acts like it's a breakup to spare him the next quest since he's injured for some reason we don't know about. At the beginning when Chuami first meets Yuna she blatantly asks if Tidus is her boyfriend and she says yes. Then it says she was more concerned about him than Sin. Then even Lulu afterwards basically calls Tidus an idiot for not realizing that Yuna wasn't serious, and it was something else at play.
I guess the rest of it is in this novel? So far, it's pretty awesome. I bet the novel isn't as bad as people are saying but I won't know until I can read it for myself. Hopefully someone translates it.
The novel is a prequel of the audio drama.
Feels a bit like like Drag-On Dragoon / NieR envy. "I can be edgy, too!"I think the problem is that it's unusual for Final Fantasy, and particularly for what we already knew about FFX universe.
LmaoMasterful spin right here.

Lmao
Yaaaasssss, this truth.
So which part did you have a problem with?
can someone give a brief summary of what has happened here? between the OP and what is being discussed now?
I'm still trying to understand why anyone at SE thought sequels were a good idea to bring into games that are, by definition, one-offs.I glanced at the summary earlier but man.. what the heck Nojima.
I really don't know what you're thinking. This sounds terrible. Just stop. The reason people can't trust FF sequels is right here.

Sideways sequels are also the weirdest fucking thing. 10-2 sounds more like a recommendation for your hands than a game title.
Or it will veer off a cliff like it always does.Maybe halfway through a hypothetical 10-3 the tone will strongly shift and the game will end up being a better game than most anticipated going into it.
I think they know how to handle sequels, but they don't know how to handle franchises. By which I mean, their response to success is much like that of Lucas Arts; Drive that shit into the ground, hard.Square Enix doesn't know how to handle sequels, plain and simple.
To be fair, he is right about something like Argo. It's critically acclaimed and all that jazz, but the synopsis, if you just read it off Wikipedia sounds like hot garbage. However as others have chimed in, SE has an incredibly spotty hit/miss record, as of late. Their recent output does not instill confidence about their ability to pull off a game with a set up as wonky as this.
Square Enix doesn't know how to handle sequels, plain and simple.
We used to not have to deal with final fantasy sequels. now it feels like a virtual certainty
the audio drama itself is fine. nothing ground breaking and not that good (a little sloppy with writing in aurons daughter...Retcon :/ ) but its passable and could work
now the details from this novel that we hear in bits and pieces on the otherhand, are troubling/concerning
at any rate if its gone this far its safe to assume they have already started making it. its win/win. if its good we get more if its bad we just pretend it doesnt exist like most square enix products these days.
I just wish the company would start making better decisions and higher quality projects like the good ol days. even working with other companies on collaborative projects should be something they are willing to do just to foster the younger talent they have and to work on more unique projects.
At this point I think they would be better off without them and sales reinforce that.
They are already talking about sequels for 15 right?
Calling bullshit on the Blitzbomb. If something like that happened 2 days after Tidus was resurrected, it would have been brought up (or at least hinted at) in Last Mission or the audio drama, which both take place after.
The bomb thing was obviously thought up long after they wrote Last Mission, and the audio drama is narrated by Chuami, who naturally wouldn't have the slightest idea about what happened then (not that Yuna would be particularly chatty about that either, since Tidus might disappear if he were to learn the truth).Calling bullshit on the Blitzbomb. If there isn't also incest I'll be disappointed.oH ! actual NTR plotline... Nothing stops NTR wave.
Japan
You ever heard of a retcon?
I have, yes. Not really sure you can call it that. If it is, it's gotta be a world record for the quickest one. Two products - a game and a novel - released a day or so apart, and one retcons the other? Fast is an understatement.
In any case, it seems Square's storytelling has gone from "medicore/poor" to "completely insane" in recent months. I'm just hoping X-3 takes a page from X-2 and has a disproportionately kickass battle system.
I don't believe they ever said that?I thought the events in the novella took place few months after X-2 Last Mission?
2 days after the good ending of the main game. How was it 2 days later?

Nope. Not exactly surprising either, since those Wikis are generally... Ah, well.http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_X-2.5
No idea if it was reliable.
(well, it starts right after the good ending, actually, but the bomb thing is a couple of days later, I believe)And where did you get this info from?
Came across the new design concept for Tidus
The whole thing is just so bizarre. Then again, it just makes me realise that the writers have absolutely no idea what made the original stories and characters so compelling in the first place. It happened with Third Birthday too. The underlying sadness and melancholy of Parasite Eve I gets utterly trampled over by a loud, brash story devoid of any subtlety. XIII had a similar loud, obnoxious tone, preferring to shout its emotional cues very loudly for 40 hours. Whatever happened to games like Parasite Eve I, Valkyrie Profile, Vagrant Story. When did the Micheal Bay approach become staple for Square-Enix's JRPG's?
