FINAL FANTASY XIII-2 |OT| Change the Future

The freakout on Gamefaqs is insane lol I'll wait to judge when more endings are revealed but at the moment even I, an ardent FF 13 fan, am disappointed with this ending.

It is essentially what would have happened if FF13 ended without the miracle.

I wonder if Versus will even come out this generation.

Seriously, how does Square-Enix justify how long it takes for them to put out a game? They don't even sell that well relative to cost compared to AAA American games.

I see people talking about a giant spoiler on the previous page. My question is how big is it and will I know it when I see it?

Like I was saying, I read the first part of it, and it's HUGE. At least, without knowing more about it. Definitely do not highlight it or read it, especially since I know you're a huge fan of the game and will likely be as saddened by it like I was :(

Popped in XIII yesterday and was fucking mindblown again by the graphics. Maybe I shouldn't do that again before XIII-2 comes out.

I think this part is what disappoints me the most. It's a sequel, it should have better graphics not worse.

The bad story/dialogue/characters I pretty much expected would carry over despite hoping they wouldn't.

You can't rush art.

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Wait... The spoiler that PK mentioned...

Is it an ending or is it part of a timeline that you have to fix?

Square-Enix needs a new development model since their current one is trash and way too slow.

Maybe they should do the art and game mechanics design in Japan and outsource the grunt work of making a functioning game to America or something so that games actually get finished.

And there are games that can be classified as art, so... yeah.

People have an easy time stating that a painting is art, or a film is art, but with videogames, some of them still create imagery and sound in order to put someone into a particular mood, so I don't know how that couldn't be seen as art.

I hope it's more fun than it's a piece of art.

Even if it's pretty but it's boring, then it's still a crappy game.

Do you really want to read this spoiler? I'll try to be as vague as possible.

It plays the credits at the end of the scene, and the player unlocked the "saw a conclusion to the story" gold trophy. However, he could go back in time and reverse time (and get additional Time Fragments--how you get these is by doing sidequests to clear up time paradoxes in each era) to presumably get another ending since it took him back to the Historia Crux screen. He still had a bunch of nodes that were locked off from him as well.

Versus will be art worthy of the Hot Topic crowd. Maybe they should get Johnny Depp to voice the main character.
LOL, I guess you're not looking forward to it, then? I'm not looking forward to Versus much either. The only thing about it that looks really cool to me is the background art (ie: the architecture).

It's depressing to read this thread. Might as well create the FFXIII games cycle similar to the Sonic one.
I thought there was a Final Fantasy cycle similar to the Zelda cycle. Sonic Cycle seems to have been deemed irrelevant because it's only used for a certain type of shitty Sonic game (ex: 2006, Shadow)--and Colours, Generations and the new port of Sonic CD were well-received by a lot of people--but that discussion is completely OT.

So the art direction is better but some of the graphics are worse?

Is the game more fun?

Way more fun, from what I've seen on streams. Everything's faster, WAY more to do, exploration, etc.

One of the streams got stuck on the casino for like an hour addicted to slots.

A Japanese game with multiple endings where you don't have to do something very time consuming or difficult to get the "best" ending?

...I think I'll just wait and see first.

I don't know in what kind of way could gfx be worse? If art is better and the tech is the same, I suppose graphics should be at least marginally better. Its not like suddenly characters look like crap or textures are half the res...

Spoiler tags? Did we all forget how to use them?

FFX-2 looked worse than FFX as well.

Some of the visuals definitely lack polish. They're not bad. Just some of the textures are a bit eh?

Game in its first hours is significantly more fun than XIII was at first. Hope that holds up all the way through.

Are there prizes to win at the slots? Without chocobo breeding, is racing even fun?

You can rack up tons of gil which you need to buy weapons and items to increase your monster's levels. Chocobo racing is much like virtual horse races, from the way you place bets and dealing with how tired your chocobo is and etc. It plays the classic chocobo theme except remixed.

Level design will be the main thing I'm looking for in FFXIII-2. It needs to be improved very substantially over FFXIII to prove that S-E can indeed still do proper RPG dungeons if they try.

Not to get the thread too off tangent, but have FF games ever had interesting/well designed dungeons? Or do you just mean Square RPGs in general? The PS1 era FF games (besides FFIX, maybe) have boring, 3-4 screen "dungeons" with barely any traps or puzzles. The dungeons in those games were more like scenarios with enemies (especially FFVIII).

The SNES and NES era FF games had actual dungeons, but even then there weren't too many interesting ones. FFVI had the most interesting dungeons (Floating Continent, Magitek Factory, Kefka's Tower, etc.).

I don't think dungeons were ever their strong points. I guess people like these games because of their flash and style. Sure, the battle systems are usually fun and the music is always notable, but their dungeon design has always been flat. They're a spectacle at this point and that does it for most people, I guess. I've grown bored with the franchise, honestly, and one major reason is because of the fact that they never produce anything interesting in the dungeon department.

From the looks of XIII, the hook looks like it's derived from collecting shit in larger environments and events that change here and there. I want to play this game at some point, but I'm not expecting any area/dungeon to set off those 'aha' triggers in my brain like the ones I get and from games like Wild ARMs and Golden Sun.
