Which is exactly the problem here. There is nothing that WAR does better than PLD except maybe aggro a group of mobs slightly more quickly. However everything that a tank is required to do, which is basically boiled down to not die while being hit by the boss, is done better by PLD. This is why WAR needs tuning, and by tuning I mean buffing, and by buffing how about if fucking Caduceus doesn't literally kill me in 3 hits?

But if it did significant DPS, I guess it would make it a more interesting class instead of just buffing his defense. I guess my point is that it is not wrong for a class to be less effective at its main role if it can bring interesting support together with it.

I would first increase WAR's DPS than its defense. If a WAR party kills something 10% faster than a PLD party, then it's worth it to punish the healer a little bit.

I didn't level WAR to be a gimped DPS with a large HP pool. I leveled WAR to tank things. I have a BRD at 50 for when I feel like pewpewing, when I'm my WAR I want to stand in front of big ugly things and get hit by them and I want to be as effective at it as the PLD is. WAR is supposedly a tank class, so the primary job of WAR which is tanking should be as effective as PLD even if it works differently.

boy leveling Botanist is pretty tough, no real easy way around it except for hard work and farming levequests.

Other than shards and crystals, is there anything else that brings in the moolah from Botany?

As a war in T4 CoB, I hold aggro so much better than the paladin in my team. I suspect its due to the stacking of aggressive cooldowns and also self healing emnity. Of course, I'm still quite squishy compared to the paladin but dps and healers don't pull things off me even if they went all out.

Sooo I'm kinda tempted to level paladin to see whether he's just not playing his class properly.

Also from a Titan HM parse with me out of defiance, I did about 140k while other dps did around 160-170k and the bard pulling around 200k. And that was me holding back to not pull aggro from the MT.

I'm using this one: Link

I already had it for my media PC which is hooked up to my TV so it was an easy choice but the built in touch pad is gread in case you want to move around windows without having to go through the settings for instance.

Also: Holy shit, full GAF member status!

Have you completed turn 4 yet?

Well uh...our PLD leveled a WAR to 50 while our WAR leveled a PLD to 50. So far they've stuck with their original classes. Maybe they'll drop in to give some insight because I don't know anything.

For people who has cleared CoB T4, how much did the AF2/Allagan gear help in your group's success?

So far my group had nothing but dps gear drop and it feels like it's hindering our progress quite a bit.

Good, smart execution can make up a lot of the gear gap. We cleared it last night, second week in there, 6 total drops. One was a tanking chest for our PLD, a DPS upgrade for our DRG, and a BLM ring. The rest were MNK loot that we couldn't use. No healing drops at all.

I found this to be the case as well. There are a couple of waves where I can just AoE hold everything and the group just burns the crap down. Also, when cooldowns are lined up you can do tremendous burst damage when you need it.

My Soldier/Knight combo was killed second at the end of wave 2, and I would run over to the Dreadnaught from wave 3 already in progress. I could easily rip aggro off the PLD MT, even coming in with the fight 30-40% done.

I have a PLD with a relic weapon as well anticipating I would need to switch in raiding. I've never been asked, for what it's worth. I think T4 would have been harder without it, truthfully.

Out of curiosity do you -think- that having a WAR instead of a second PLD increases your kill speeds significantly enough to be key to clearing it?

Well this weekend was pretty fruitful. Got DRG to 50, then yesterday grinded out Ifrit runs with a FC member and got 3/4 of my 50s their Ifrit Weapon. Saw the Polearm drop while i was running on WAR, but was outlotted by half the group, and that was the only one that dropped all day :(

One thing I'm truly astonished with though, after doing a bunch of hours of Ifrit runs, SO MANY level 50 healers haven't bothered to get Swiftcast. It seems almost a necessity for instant-raise situations, and it would have saved so many wipes. Please do this, healers!

Guys, I couldn't do it, I couldn't cap my Myth Tomes. AK is so boring. Why do we only have 1 dungeon that gives an adequate amount of Myth Tomes anyway?

And damn, every time I see this avatar I get so happy :)

I'm just using the cheapest thing, a $10 USB keyboard and that works just fine. It just depends on your distance to the PS3 for the cable.

It helps but it was not the deciding factor. I'm sure it made the Dreadnaught in wave 3 die quite a bit faster, but if your DPS is lacking there you certainly aren't going to get through wave 6. For wave 4, I tanked everything in the middle (2 rooks + bugs) and we just AoE'd them down. Maybe that wave bought us enough time to make the rest of it go much smoother? I know we had nothing up going into wave 5.

For reference, we killed the last mob after one go-around of enrage (healed through easily), and we were sitting on a level 3 LB because we are idiots, heh. So, it didn't feel like a little DPS here and there made a huge difference. It feels like that fight is about tactics and really sharp execution then anything else.

It's good to see you too! :D

I know this is not exactly advice, but if one entire class is "wrong" for a content, then it will be buffed. The question is how long do you put up with it, sure.

But like, it *will* be buffed.

*with your offensive cooldowns and me stoneskinning myself =p

It's true though, but I think both tanks can pull threat faster when they're playing offensively (WAR better than PLD, since Sword Oath is mild, like PLD in general).

I played ranger in ffxi for 4 years, it took about 3 years for them to nerf ranger.

In those 3 years I could do more dmg at lvl 72 than a dragoon at lvl 75 with much better gear.

Hopefully it doesn't take them 3 years to change war...

I was wondering when you were going to show up here. <tips hat>

Was this discussed from the TGS interview with Yoshi-P?

Q. Please tell us what we can do with individual player housing. Can we set our minions to play around the house? Can we make greenhouses and fields?
A. Through updates, we're planning to make it possible for players to grow gysahl greens and hatch baby chocobos and raise them. Also, we’re planning underground workshops where crafters can build boats and airships.

That sounds awesome.

Anyone else absolutely pissed off at how the PLD darklight gear looks? I have the pants/boots and chest/helm... I look like a fucking idiot. And given how long it's going to take to get the Lv90 stuff, it's frustrating. The design is so bad, it makes me want to play a different class altogether. Have they talked about changing the look at all?

I finally unlocked Scholar a few days ago.

... Whatever happened to Scholar being a Healing over Time type healer? It's very disappointing. I was willing to put up with faerie AI for a HoT healer but not this weird shield and pet hybrid thing.

I think DL in general is dumb. As a healer I get a stupid hood. Those hoods are the worst. They take away the most distinct and identifiable part of your character - your hair. It removes any sense of uniqueness so you can look exactly like everyone else.

It was discussed for a bit, and I guess the unspoken conclusion is that we're going to be socialist commune crafters under Chairman Maple.

The monk dark light legs is a subligar. Yes, it looks like a lvl 5 subligar, except it is black.

So.

Ya.

I haven't seen much hard data but listening to others talk, I get the impression war and monk are kind of bottom of the barrel dps, which is a shame if true. Two of my best irl friends played as WAR and MNK in XI and their dps kicked ass.

Looking for meaning in GAF
Just ran Brayflox last night again. I play PLD and queue with a WHM, and we ended up with two good DPS classes this time, and probably got the best group I've ever had in this game so far. Everyone respected the kill orders, two casters were sleeping monsters, and everything went off without a hitch. We got through the dungeon way faster than our first playthrough.

After doing the last boss again, I'm starting to think the boss' difficulty is mostly related to how well the tank handles it. If the tank dodges the laser beam of doom every time (it's not too difficult as long as you are quick with the strafe button and don't lag) and manages to continuously reposition the boss to get off the poison pools, the rest of the fight is pretty straightforward. All the DPS have to do is stay off the poison themselves while keeping tabs on their own aggro generation (since the tank will have slightly less aggro on this boss due to the constant repositioning). Yesterday's group pulled this off really well yesterday, and the WHM told me she didn't even break a sweat MP-wise.

Darklight looks terrible on everyone, not just you tank

In other news, Titans bow dropped first time I kill. Fucking RNG, drop me a good weapon as I don't need it.

Well WAR is only a tank, so that makes sense in that regard.

I think people assumed that because the opposition traditionally is burst heal versus AoE heal.

Instea you get your awesome bubble and "don't-need-to-target-the-DPS-because-fairy-can-deal-with-them-on-her-own" kind of healer, which is awesome.

When you manage to make your tank's health bar barely drop the entire fight because bubble is absorbing anything a whm would be healing, you'll like it.

Yeah... it looks terrible as well. I wish they would at least allow you to customize it in some way. I can't even do the "Don't Show Helm" option. I'm sitting in Mor Dhona, looking around at 55 other players that look identical to me. Ugh... I'm don't ranting now.

As a monk, your dps is effected greatly based on the encounter. Every 3rd combo we get a really good buff that stacks 3 times, but you lose it if you don't combo 3 skills in 12 sec.

So fights like garuda at the start suck because she runs away and your stacks drop, low dps.

Other fights like chimera, latter half of Titan HM, your dps is good because you can always keep the stacks up.

Apparently it is also harder to play than some jobs because the rotation has more complexity than say dragoon.

All dps suck compared to bard though, so there is that.
