Catch of the Day! XSEED announces a partnership with NAMCO BANDAI Games to bring Yuji Naka's PROPE game "Fishing Resort" for the Wii to NA!

XSEED Games' Press Release said:
Torrance, Calif. – XSEED Games, an independent-minded publisher, today announced a partnership with NAMCO BANDAI Games that will bring Fishing Resort, a new title themed around arcade-style fishing and recreations, to North America exclusively for Wii™. Developed by PROPE in Japan, the studio led by celebrated visionary and creator of Sonic, Yuji Naka, Fishing Resort drops players into a tropical island locale which they can explore as they see fit – this is a vacation after all! The agreement with NAMCO BANDAI Games grants XSEED Games exclusive publishing rights to Fishing Resort in North America when the game ships this fall.

“We appreciate NAMCO BANDAI Games giving us the opportunity to once again work with PROPE and Yuji Naka’s team of visionaries on another original game property that delivers an engaging entertainment experience,” commented Jun Iwasaki, President of XSEED Games. “Fishing Resort is an especially interesting title, blending accessibility with more complex game mechanics that players of all abilities can appreciate.”

In Fishing Resort, players are put in control of their own island vacation and free to do as they please – get up early in the morning and try to grab massive fish in the deep sea, or rent a bicycle and travel to a remote lagoon. Players are free to fish wherever there is water, and a variety of locales are available, from tropical ocean fishing on the high sea to ice fishing atop the island’s mountains. With over 20 fish-related mini games and over 200 varieties of fish available – not to mention four-player competitive modes and online leaderboards, which show players how they stack up against other anglers around the world – there’s plenty of content for both casual players and completionists alike.

Players start out in Fishing Resort by customizing their own unique character, and can choose to make a cartoon-style character of themselves, or someone entirely different. Add in over 200 items such as shoes, clothes, sunglasses, backpacks, hats and much more, and each player is given the tools to create an entirely unique character with which to explore the island. Fishing is accomplished by mimicking real-life fishing motions using the Wii Remote™ to cast and moving the Nunchuk™ in a circular motion to reel in fish, which range from pond guppies to massive marlins over 10-feet in length!

Developed by PROPE in conjunction with NAMCO BANDAI Games and published by XSEED Games, Fishing Resort is currently in production and will be released this fall on Wii. The game will be released in Japan later this summer under the name Family Fishing. More details on Fishing Resort will be announced in the coming months.

Don't think we're bringing the peripheral over. The Wii-mote and Nunchuk do a great job of simulating the rod and reel on their own.

See, Wii users? We still love you! Been a while since our last Wii game, but this one was too good to pass up. ^_-

Jeez, you'd think that such a legendary designer would start aiming a little higher. The last few Prope games have been okay at best.

Serious (and probably stupid) question.

Did Naka have anything to do with the Sega Bass Fishing games on the DC? I loved those as a kid. Never cared for the whole fishing genre, except the two DC games.

They were wonderful.

That throwing stick stunt of yours has boomeranged on us.

Don't think so, those were done by Am1/Wow Entertainment.

makes good threads.
For a split second I thought this was called "Fisting Resort" for the Wii. I was a bit heart broken when I reread it.

Whatever happened to Sky Knight Rodea? That game looked way awesomer than this.

Good for XSEED. Hopefully they can get it out for the holiday season to get some of that Holiday money.

Day 1 for me.

Oh nice. The trailers make this look like a lot of fun. Hope someone releases it Europe (Rising Star or Ghostlight would be the likely ones).

Naka's primary legacy is as a programmer, not a game designer.

This game looks so relaxing. Am I the only one thinking that some of the environments (jungle/forest) look like PSO stuff? Haha.

Sale +1.

You know what, I've heard some good things about this game, very heavy in content.

I'll keep my eyes open for more info.

There's more to Family Fishing than just fishing. Set on a resort island, you're free to explore the island, even using vehicles for transportation. You can run about collecting items, or take part in one of 20 mini games. The island has a message board where you'll be able to take on a variety of challenges. Adding variety to the exploration component is a time cycle which brings about background changes as you explore.

For the fishing part, you'll be able to exchange fish for points to purchase new tools. You can fish in some 15 locations, including the sea, rivers and lakes. As you advance in the game, new areas will come unlocked.

One of your goals is to build up an aquarium by collecting fish. You can expand this aquarium to earn money. You'll also be able to brag about your fishing skills to other players through a Wi-Fi Connection mode called Big Size Online Ranking.

Prope and Namco Bandai are packing Family Fishing with lots of content. You'll find over 1,000 items, ranging from clothing for your characters to actual fishing-related items. You'll find over 200 fish types, including octopuses and penguins.

You play as a traveler who's come to the island. You'll be able to take part in a variety of resort-style activities, including cruising, a submarine tour, and kayaking, said Naka.

As far as the different environments and types of fish, this is the kind of thing I had always hoped Animal Crossing would do as it expanded and changed. Take the bones of what's there and make things bigger and better.

Instead we got almost the exact same game over and over (and over) again.

Yeah, I wouldn't think XSEED would just bring any game over, not caring about content.

Bitch, please.

Animal Crossing has seasons and you can find different types if you are fishing in the river, pond or sea.

It seems XSEED likes to bring over only NB's games. I applaud them for the effort but I would like to see Earth Seeker as well, please?

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
Fuck yeah!!

I'm really excited for this, looks like an Animal Crossing that solely focuses on fishing.

This.....actually looks charming and fun. And if XSEED is taking a chance on it then there has to be something compelling about it. And then there's that Yuji Naka connection. That guy is pretty legendary. I admit, I am curious and would like to play this.

Nice! Looks the same as the JP box including the logo for the most part.

And it looks like:

The kicker? Ohshima and Artoon made Flingsmash.

I thought the same thing. There are only a few fishing series I'd think about purchasing, and this is a new one.

Have absolutely no interest in this game but XSeed having a working relationship with Bamco is fantastic news.

There are a ton of games they could bring over that Bamco evidently wouldn't dare touch and would do a better job doing so in every possible way.

I think this would be fucking awesome. I was thinking about this the other day...

I would love a free-roam fishing game where you could to different fishing spots - ocean, lakes, ponds, rivers - and get a boat, do some fishing, etc. Kind of relaxing and cool.
