Gears of War 4 PC Performance Thread

And from Computerbase there is a comparison between the 6700K and FX 8370:

Nvidia cards are quite CPU limited but the 4670 @ stock should be fast enough to maintain over 60 FPS on average under Full-HD.

Check out this image from the NVGuide, speicifcally looking at the CPU Framerate listed:
gears-of-war-4-geforce-com-nvidia-titan-x-3840x2160-ultra-benchmark.png

While that is a CPU a mosnter amount of threads, but it is low clocked... and not everything is so easily multithreaded, especially a lot of gameplay code in most engines. So that image shows the capability of having "200 fps" were there to be an infinitely fast GPU attached to that CPU. If you are targetting 60fps, I imagine you will be quite fine... even with a 4670 (which is hardly terrible at all).

Cheers.

That benchmarking tool is amazing btw.

1080p + Ultra-Preset:

6700K
+ 960 = 42 FPS
+ 970 = 63 FPS
+ 1060 = 74 FPS
+ 980 Ti = 90 FPS
+ 1080 = 125 FPS

8370
+ 960 = 44 FPS
+ 970 = 48 FPS
+ 1060 = 64 FPS
+ 980 Ti = 70 FPS
+ 1080 = 70 FPS

Thanks! I should be able to do 60fps @1080 after adjusting a few settings down from Ultra.

3840x2160 @ 200% ? I thought the resolution scaling was essentially super sampling. Or is that what happens when the resolution is set to 1080p @ 200%? 200% over 4K is insane. :p

The resolution it shows is the scaled resolution, not the output.

Sounds like a good port. Now the only hurdle is actually downloading the game off the Windows Store with my gimpy internet.

So I need to have the anniversary update to play this?

Worries me a bit, since last time I put it on my computer I had to reformat. My disc kept going to 100% use. Couldn't find the answer for it so I reformatted.

Seems like a good port too, and a game I want to play. Guess I will try it again.

With the stated greater performance (1.5 - 2x) in multiplayer, it perhaps would have been helpful for that to get it's own benchmark?

I guess you can still use the framerate display in game though and try stuff out. Hmmm.

Wow, that built-in benchmark tool is impressive. I haven't seen anything else of the game yet, but now I'm excited. Definitely will give this game a shot once I finish building my first PC!

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
That benchmark tool convinced me to buy the game. Fucking amazing work, Coalition. Damn.

Real respect for the PC release. Just shows you how much Turn 10 fucked up.

Benchmark at 58fps 1440p with a 1080 and 6800k everything maxed and the two settings on insane, hell of a port!

Very impressed.

God damned Windows Store!!!! First time I've ever had issues. Seriously. When the preload went live I clicked download and i remember it downloading something small. Not the full game. I just figured it was a temp file and would eventually download the rest in a few days. Just realized there's no sign of Gears on my PC. Everytime I try and download it says "Try again later, something happened on our end"

Edit: got it working with a combo of 1 and 2 http://www.gamepur.com/news/24477-f...r-try-again-later-something-happened-our.html

Here is our PC performance guide straight from our PC team at The Coalition.

As soon as I buy a new external Wi-Fi card that supports the Anniversary update (yes, that is seriously what's holding me back right now), Gears 4 will be the first purchase I make on the Windows 10 Game store, despite all of my personal issues with it.

So excited to hop in tomorrow night with my older brother just like back in the day, but even more excited to give you more of my money and experience GoW4 in all it's 1440p, 60fps goodness.

Great job on the port, fellas.

I didn't really have a lot of interest in this game, but I might pick it up since it seems like an amazing port.

Edit: For some reason I have $52 on my Microsoft account, so I only spent $10 on Gears 4. That's great.

Damn I wish I wasn't getting the Xbox One disc version for such a good price (wish it was digital). This looks like a great PC release. I'll double dip once there's a price drop I suppose.

Messed around in multiplayer a bit and it is smooth as butter, getting 120-165 fps maxed out at 1440p.

GTX 1080
i7 5820K @ 4.2 GHz

Can't wait to try out the campaign tomorrow.

I was just a hair under 60 fps average (58) and my bottom 5 was 52.. so I turned on resolution scale and set it to 5%.

Pretty damn good, imo!

+ 1080 = 70 FPS

Is this the absolutely lowest frame the game went or is this an average? 970 + i7 6700 is my exact set up so I'd love to know if this is gonna be a super rock solid 60 or not. Like no stutters or quick 5-6 fps drops or anything like that.

That benchmarking tool looks so, so good. This looks like such a fantastic PC version all around. The guide is really great too.

I think I'm going to upgrade to the ultimate edition, now that Mafia 3 has turned out as it has.. that money can go to upgrading Gears 4 and playing it over the weekend :)

God damn this game runs fucking amazing, and bravo to the team for having hands down the best in game benchmarking system and complete control over just about everything imaginable!

I can't believe how well this is running on both my wife's i5 3570k/GTX 1060 and my i7 6700k/GTX 1070

I was sceptical as hell after how Forza Horizon 3 turned out but damn this game does not let you down in the performance department!

Being able to dynamically swap between 1440p and 4k is fucking amazing, and let's you use every ounce of gpu power, these guys are bloody wizards from the moon!

Anyone noticed some slowdowns/hiccups during cutscenes? I set the game at 1600p with dynamic resolution at 18+ so it doesn't go below 1440p and has been locked at 60 except for some hitching everytime a cutscene starts.

Hell ya! God this is just insane being able to tinker and see the results haha, it's like a micro-game all in itself >_<

Expecting pretty good 1080p performance from my i7-6700HQ + GTX 1060 laptop!

Maybe even considering upgrading my pre-order to the Ultimate Edition tonight for that early access (EDIT: nevermind, looks like Win10 Store is adamantly no refunds -- not gonna double dip but if I could credit toward the upgrade, I would)

EDIT 2: I am braced for the possibility of my mobile processor being a bottleneck for some settings.
