My only suggestion is probably not to put an outsider in a clique-y type of group. Makes me feel like they'd be less likely to be as engaging because they wouldn't be able to keep up with the groups inside jokes and stories.

Otherwise it was excellent! Day 3 was particularly good. Good work Patrick!

I really use to like John Drake but he spends all his time being really annoyed and defending himself. Does not come across as a great guest to have when he does not have some big game to show off or enthuse about. I get the feeling he is going to snap any moment and murder someone.

There's some Premium content right there.

Nah, I feel like Drake has only gotten better and better. He was great in that Vinnyvania vid and the Ubisoft commentary.

We disagree: (and yes that is me with drake)

Hey! I'm sure some of you are still watching the content from this year, but given that it was my first year booking, I wanted to pop in and solicit some feedback from everyone. If you want to express that as "I liked this person, I didn't like this person" please be respectful or sent me a private message -- even when a guest doesn't necessarily fit into our mix, we need to be respectful of their time and presence. I've learned a bunch of lessons that I'll probably write down in a big blog post on Monday or Tuesday (I'm taking Monday off to try and catch up on sleep).

Getting Griffin and Justin McElroy was a step in the right direction. By E3 2016 I fully expect the entire Giant Bomb panel to have been replaced by the three McElroy brothers. Thank you.

It's a bit and as with most bits, it has to escalate to be entertaining. Drake is great.

I think Drake is a cool dude overall but putting him on the Ubisoft stream was a mistake. So much salt and jealousy against Just Dance ughh

He gave them credit for the social phone stuff. Also, showing bias was way more entertaining than remaining silent. He gels great with the crew.

I really enjoyed day three especially the first and last segments when it was the crew with one guest. They should try to have that everyday so we can here more from the crew and Ed Boon was really great.

Nooo that was awesome. I loved his passive-aggressive comments and subtle jabs at Just Dance.

Good shit.

I enjoyed all the guests but I feel that Tuesday was the best day of the show. You got Boyes, Lang, Johnny V, Yoshida and Spencer was excellent. Hopefully you can get someone on from Nintendo next time.

Of all the Giant Bomb Extended Universe characters John Drake, Johnny V. and Dave Lang are the best. I hope they get their own movie.

Thanks for the offer of feedback! This may have been the best E3 yet, and you NAILED the booking.

I actually thought these guests were great to a person. Only that gearbox guy and Zoe didn't go yard (and the latter is from her being a coin flip of "exciting and informative Zoe" or "boring yet unnerving Zoe").

Good selection of guests but too many on the panel at once. Also I think you'd make a better host than Jeff.

I agree with the point made that the cliquey guests just get let in on working with the other guests instead of going 100% Extended Bomb Crew In-Jokes. Even when there's no butting out of the others, it can feel like that without it.

Listened to the last e3 podcast.

Did I just hear Jonathan Blow compare himself to Albert Einstein AND Martin Luther King Jr. in the same sentence?

In other words: Jonathan Blow. I mean, that's not something Klepek could police you know? Perhaps if everyone else at the tables rolled their eyes and sighed loudly in unison...

Paul Barnett's attempt to discredit legitimate criticism of Dungeon Keeper by lumping it together with family death threats was so disgusting that I can't stand looking at/listening to him any longer. That man has no decency.

At that point in time, everyone there at Mythic was given a raw deal by their evil incarnate masters and the writing was on the wall. I don't agree but I understand.

You brought him Diet Coke from abroad? That's awesome, man. You were the guy who sent candy to GFW Radio too, right?

Hey Patrick, awesome job with guests this year. The lineup was almost universally fantastic. Here's what I'd recommend for next year.

- Having 6 guests at once does them a bit of a disservice because at least one or two people will end up overshadowed by the bigger personalities at the table. I think 4 guests plus two GB guys is a good number.

- What I liked about this year was that there was a mixture of high-energy comedic segments (Dave Lang's bullshit) with more chill, serious talk (Rami et al). Lean into that! Changing up the pace like that keeps the shows fresh and hopefully makes the quieter guys feel more comfortable when they don't have to compete with Miller taking his shirt off.

Also, and this doesn't have much to do with guest scheduling, but deep development talk is way way more interesting than "So what did you see at the show this year?"

Pretty much agree with this.

Also at times 6 was good but at times it was a bit much, about what you'd probably expect from a panel that busy.

I think the guests were fantastic but maybe you could separate the segments of all the crazy regulars into a single long panel each day and the guests that you think will have a lot to say or that have a lot of insight to a more intimate panel.

Other than that i really cannot complain, your coverage has been excellent and you should all be very proud.

I like this idea.

Overall, really good coverage and shows and mostly great guests.

This might be more feedback for Jeff since he was hosting...but I felt at times developer guests didn't get enough time to talk developer-y stuff, and were drowned out by casual chit chat from the journalist people. Personally I am much more interested in hearing their perspective and experiences rather than say, Greg Miller (who, regardless, I do like).

I think a three guest limit per section as a general rule would work best (three guests, three gb guys).

Jeff Cannata was a really surprisingly good fit with you guys. Bring him back!

Also where was Cliffy B this year!?

I think you should try to have less guests on at one time, and maybe fewer GB members as well. Something like 4-5 people total per session might allow everyone to get more words in, rather than 2-3 people being almost silent most of the time. Maybe like 2 GB members and 2 guests.

Also, just make note of which guests your audience in general enjoyed, or which guests you found to be the most talkative/interesting, as well as which guests were disliked or didn't add much to the discussion. I'm sure it's tough to make these calls, but I think you need to filter the good guests out and be more selective with your invites next time. Of course since this was your first time doing this you didn't have as good an idea of how guests would interact during this type of show, but now since one E3's in the bag you can take a step back and give it a closer look.

I think it's important to consider guest synergy. For instance, it seems awkward sometimes when you have a mix of journalists and developers on at one time, because some of the devs are mainly at E3 to talk about their game/developer experience, while the journalists are focused on all games. So in these cases it seems like the discussion can go places where certain guests have little to say, or lack knowledge in an area to join in. So my recommendation would be to try to have some sessions with only developer guests and GB staff, and other sessions with journalist guests and GB staff. That way the topics and discussion will be more relevant to everyone at the table, and everyone would be able to provide input. Further, I think when you're going to have guests that are very close to GB like Drake/Pope/John V/Lang, you might want to consider just having them on during certain sessions, rather than mixing them with other less close knit guests. Because the inside jokes/tomfoolery that erupts during those segments seems to catch other newer guests off guard a bit, making it more difficult for them to speak up.

And to be a little more nitpicky, I personally preferred the couch/casual atmosphere of previous years more than the long table set up of this year.

That being said, I enjoyed the discussions this year for the most part, and I hope to see more content like this spring up in the future! Shoutouts to Jeff Green and Jeff Cannata who I hope are brought back on in future shows.

I second this: I like the more intimate and crazy atmospheres of past locations. The place this year was kinda sterile, echoey and dull. It seemed really "quiet"...

So is Zach Minor a new hire or did they just use him for E3?

He said on Twitter that it was just for E3.

I personally thought this year's location was the best they've had. And an added bonus was that it wasn't a crack house, and was a lot closer to the convention center which probably made it a lot easier to get good guests.

edit: Also, I see some People mentioning Zoe as one of the "worst" guests and I have to say that I don't agree. I thought she added a good perspective to that discussion.

I was definitely missing some of the quirky, intimate stuff such as the fridge cam and whatnot. And the couch setup just seemed more casual, as they were having face to face conversations with a few people at a time. I think this year it felt like they were trying to 1up the previous years in terms of scale, but I personally preferred the previous years set ups for sure.

I don't think it had anything with scale. This year's location was a lot closer to the convention center than past years, and that's probably the main draw of that location. A lot easier to get good guests if you can just walk ten minutes instead of having to take a cab. It also helps that it wasn't a porn set with no security; they probably had to find a safer location after last year (understandably), and a hotel is more or less your only option if you want that kind of security. With that in mind, I think the set was pretty remarkable.

Hmm yeah those are certainly valid reasons. But I still prefer a more close knit face to face couch layout, which could probably be achieved even with the new space.

Curious what you make of Elizabeth Simm's comments about the shows being "white dude central", to sum up her general point in three words. I thought she was rather hostile considering you're ultimately one of the more pro-actively inclusive sites on the internet, but it would be ridiculous to pretend there wasn't a massive gender (or indeed racial) imbalance in the line-up. I figure this will form part of your blog post, but I'm curious if you had anyone turn you down because of a similar mentality regarding your guests or anything like that. Otherwise, nice work. In terms of who you actually got, the big hitters were impressive, and you got Rami and Cara so that's all I wanted to see.

I want a Palmer Lucky Dumptruck when Super Smash Bros. comes out, because clearly no-one in the ever-growing Friends Of Giant Bomb is more qualified to talk about that game than he is.

I liked the executives, and I'm not sure why some people are complaining about them. I thought Cara Ellison and Zoe Quinn didn't have a lot of interesting things to say, and they didn't really fit with the rest of the gang.

Who is Elizabeth Simms and what were the comments? Search is turning up nothing.

If it's a critique of the diversity of the panels, what does she expect from Patrick? He can't pull minorities and women out of a hat. Gaming is already a very difficult industry to break into with many talented and experienced people out of work. Considering awareness surrounding the lack of diversity has only really been spotlighted the last couple years, how quickly do people realistically expect to see meaningful change? It's going to take time.

I wish you guys had less guests and just focused on really, really good guests for more time. I don't like how a bunch of the segments devolved into Jeff asking everyone at the table like two questions and then going to break. That just made things seem kind of lame and I wish the segments with the really good guests ended up being much longer.

Also you guys need to devote like 2 hours to the GOAT guests like Lang and Johnny V. Also there was a sad lack of David Jaffe who I feel was the best guest you guys got like 2 years ago.

Responding to that line of criticism is a lose/lose for GB. Her comment about not having any interest in a site that doesn't have a female member completely disregards the background of GB. Completely ignores the lack of funds for additional members and the simple fact that Jeff and Ryan started the site with their friends, who also happen to be guys. Singling out GB like there is some grand conspiracy within the site to dismiss the contribution of women to the gaming community is disingenuous. It's not like GB is Polygon size and all guys. The community of gaming as a whole is changing which is good, but there is nothing wrong with some parts staying the same. Especially when a site like GB has never contributed to the negativity the community is progressing away from. Anyways, I personally feel Simins was way off base. Simply suggesting to Patrick that more women on the panels would have been nice would have sufficed. Perhaps he invited a bunch more that could not make it. He even said himself on Tumblr that many people's PR teams get nervous about the free-from GB style. Maybe that contributed. The fact is no one knows except Patrick and the rest of GB. Ranting on twitter with no true knowledge of the situation about people she calls friends is a pretty low thing to do, no matter who you are.

Personally, I would have like to see smaller shorter segments. People seemed to get lost amidst some of the stronger personalities that were more comfortable with GB. Maybe Jeff and Patrick could have switched off hosting segments to mix up the style of conversation.

Elizabeth Simms seems like exactly the reason that so many people don't take feminism seriously.

That said, it's probably a long shot, but if Aisha Tyler is doing the Ubi conference again next year it'd be a pretty good get to have her on a night show.

Two birds one stone!

Seriously tho, I totally agree. She would be great on the live show.

And what the hell at Patrick just bending over to her like that publicly when she's being extremely insulting, hostile and disrespectful ? Christ dude, have some respect for yourself and your coworkers; tell her to fuck off.

I thought you did a great job with the guests. Only thing I'd personally want next time out of the quests would be a Nintendo rep in some way. We had MS and Sony guys and and that was fantastic but it'd be cool to get someone from Nintendo and see if they can talk more candidly about working there and stuff.

Also I think it'd be good to have all the silly guests (Drake + Lang + Johnny V etc) together in one section to maximise the silly fun while also not drowning out someone else you don't see so much on these types of things (Like Yoshida).

Wow, what a garbage person. The GB crew does not go out of their way to ignore women or non-white people. They are neither sexist nor racist. Their panels mostly feature white males because most of the industry and most of their friends happen to be that. It's statistics. Christ.

Oh, go down the rabbit hole and read the whole twitter conversations with her fellow travelers.

@ElizSimins @Bboy_Izilla But yeah. We started side-eying over the net once the privilege started showing in the podcasts. Ugggggggh.

@Bboy_Izilla @ElizSimins @ActWon1 wait........................... all the fucking cardboard cutouts are white dudes too

@ActWon1 @ElizSimins @Bboy_Izilla Last night there were a few women, but even then the whiteness and the super dudes-all-uponness glared.
