Im confused. To me the sound is much improved imo. Sounds night and day. No longer a vaccum cleaner.

U serious?

I think the sounds are still terrible terrible terrible...Way too clean and not enough growling, explosions, chassis sounds, wind noise...

And on a GTR : the iconic PD car...depressing.

Well here is the real thing!! Sounds pretty darn close!!

https://youtu.be/tJmLC3sJhUw
God I wish GTS sounded like that.
The actual engine sound is almost entirely absent in the GTS footage, and when downshifting the transmission whine sounds really weird in comparison to the real thing. I get that they have to pitch shift this stuff, and that there are a heap of cars they have to do it for, but I want to hear the driveline in action, I want to hear stones hitting the underside of the car, I want to feel like I'm there by just listening to the game.

Lighting looks great and shows that a true dynamic system isn't needed imo. Use the saved juice elsewhere, that to me is more important than time changes during the race.

I wish Forza would take the same realistic lighting approach instead of that silly hyper real look they always go for.

That dude been on the downplay train for any racers that's not on his xbox for quite a while

No way. That's totally not true at all.

Are all three people in this conversation (myself included) actually playing racing games on PC/X1/PS4?

Or am I the only one?

Lighting and cars look nice, the tracks/gameplay graphics are at best on par with current-gen games and can't stand up to parts of other games. Are you actually playing the beta or looking at the in game shots?

Horizon 3 on Xbox One doesn't hold a candle to 3 on PC...I have no problem downplaying "Xbox" racers. The lack of offroad in Motorsport sucks, as does the lack of real TOD during races. Which has gone away in GT:S. Microsoft also fails to put a lot of race day options in FM too...a big lack that they need to fix. ;)

I can make any racer I have look insane in gifs :)

Are you actually playing the beta? You just said on the previous page that you wish you got in. So you're judging the game in motion from shitty YouTube compressed footage, right? You're also comparing an unfinished game to finished games.

No, I wish I had got in..the "actually playing games" is a reference to the fact that I'm playing others across PC/Xbox/PS4 and can compare personal experience to all 3 platforms. I'm looking at gameplay screenshots and also noted I realize it's a Beta. There's a chance for improvement, especially with PD. In its current state I'm not impressed by anything but the lighting and I expect more from PD. The gameplay is what matters with GT (and any sim/sim-lite), so I'm only giving my honest opinion on how it looks in its current state.

I'll drop the "graphics" commentary till we get that thread for real though. Gameplay didn't look on par with the gifs/replays (which isn't unusual).

PD are still the gods of camera angles and replays though. I wish others could come even 1/10th as close. Everyone pretty much sucks in comparison.

You don't play beta like me, but IMO, graphics are not on par with current-gen sim racers. It's obviously above, even in beta state.

Yikes (at the quality of that video)

There's absolutely nothing in that video that would alter my opinion.

Hmm perhaps you made a comparison thread then?

just curious though, show me the forza at 4K that you said exceed the GT Sport.

If I have time tonight I'll do an image beside image gameplay comparison of Brands Hatch..so at least it's a sim for sim. Horizon 3 during gameplay on PC would be an unfair comparison.

I'm Back* All shots are gameplay. Look at these at full res.

For those that need help seeing clarity and textures/detail during gameplay...

Both Images Forza (left) / GT:S Right

Like I said, at best on par..and even missing things like grass detail or a defined fence for example...not to mention a very blurry image. HOWEVER, it's a beta, and it could improve...but my opinion stands on the beta. Note: FM6 even has the glinting sun off the back of the car.

Other FM6 gameplay shots. We're not talking photomode/replays.

Turned the HUD on. Light glancing, grass along tracksides, etc.You can see small details like grass even at 103mph.
forzamotorsport6_apexpiu4q.png

LOL! What a bad excuse!

So what about quality. In that "bad" comparison, GTS looks better OBVIOUSLY. Cheers. I don't see a problem in that video. You should realize that if even in that "bad" video something looks better, it's so goddamn obvious and logically in video with better compression and bit-rate one game will look better again.

Whatever, I came back and posted like for like (as close as I can get .pngs) above after you made the above post. Detail and clarity isn't something you can argue...if you don't see it, then I can't help you :)

Hopefully you come back and scroll up to see me doing what I said I would.

Talking graphics to me GT Sport has that extra level of sheen nothing else I've seen seems to (and it's only realised these visuals very recently, didn't look too great before). Not talking about raw 4K performance and all that jazz but what the finished result looks like. Looks like a lot of nice trackside detail and decent looking crowds and the lighting is absolutely on point where other games I've seen like Project Cars or Forza come across as artificial. GT nails the lighting and it maybe makes the rest look all the better for it. Has incredibly good depth of field effects compared to the console competition and really natural blur and effects like blooms lighting glinting off the cars.

Graphically it's lush whereas most other games have that gamey clinicalness to them. Whatever floats your boat of course.

Why does the GT6 footage look artificially dark? Even just looking at white hud elements, you can tell something's off with the capture.

Different time of day in GT6 and dodgy capture settings.

PS3 is a beast.

GT6 PS3 looks better than the piss filtered version of GT6 on PS4 Pro.

Great to see grass textures have more "texture" to them.

One of those visual pet peeves I had with last gen GT was how uniform and astroturf-like the grass looked in every single track.

Not really a technical "wow next gen" change but its great to see it.

I agree with you. I don't understand the guy who went 'wtf' at your comment.

As I said, the engine sound is way to "clean" and not profound enough... There is almost no wind sounds, no chassis sounds, almost no explosions...

In cockpit view, we can almost only hear the highest notes...when in reality the sound is made of 2 tones: high clean and low growling....

And listen to the engine when shifting down: not mechanical at all.

I agree it's much better than in GT6 (obviously so...) but still VERY synthetic and far from other sims.

Same car in Raceroom:

In AC:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KxGPrPlnv0 (lacking the high notes but still much better than GTS imho)

So, better? Yes. Good? No.

But that's just my subjective opinion.

I don't have the beta and haven't even listened to a clip of the game, but discussions of the audio in GT (and racing games in general) always make me think of this great 99% Invisible podcast called The Sound of Sports. It has, unsurprisingly, some excellent audio in it, but the story of how "enhanced" live sports are acoustically is extremely interesting to me. It also touches on how "real" doesn't sound "real" enough to us anymore sometimes.

Dennis Baxter’s job is to design the sound of sports, and he is our guide in this documentary. For nearly 20 years he’s worked on the Olympics, defining how the broadcast will sound, always trying to increase drama and excitement. For him, closer is generally better. If he can put a microphone on an athlete, he will.

At the Oxford-Cambridge boat race, the TV coverage is enhanced by microphones on the cox in each boat. Wimbledon has a special sonic drama all of its own, as we learn from Bill Whiston who mixed the sound of the 2008 finals.

When good sound isn’t available, it’s not uncommon for a prerecorded sound to be added to cover the shot.

The experience of “live” events can be highly produced, very different from the experience of being there. Is this enhanced sound so very different from that of a film or a video game? We meet a Hollywood sound effects specialist and a video game sound designer to find out what they do to create a sense of authenticity and excitement. Are they raising our expectations of how “real” sport should sound?

My car is in all of these games and sounds rubbish in most, so it's not that. That's a very good take though, very interesting.

GT.... 6?? *swallows*
picture mode with improved quality over gameplay IQ though, right??

AC

And don't forget that AC has learned some sound tricks since back then as well, listen to that Audi Quattro S1 E2(last month's free car) and all the sound done just using that stupid f-mod rev-range sample-looping tool and some set sound events.
Wouldn't be surprised if that car ends up in GTS as well and we can compare it.

The lighting is the best I've seen in a racing game during replays, are there any added effects? There is something odd during gameplay on the pro even based on those uncompressed pictures a couple pages back.

Nurburgring footage...

Fan bloody tastic! Engine sounding fab...Ambient reverb just needs knocking down a peg as nothing really in the environment for the sound to bounce off as prominent as this....For the city tracks absolutely...

THAT lighting!!

Youtube compression aside, you can see when the camera is low to the ground, the textures looks ace....

And once again....PD and replays.....Simply unmatched....
