Grandia 2 Anniversary Edition on August 24, $20 (25% off sale at launch)

Too much coming out in the next month on top of an already major backlog so I'll wait for a ~$5 sale, but really glad it's being released. It was the first JRPG I played more than a demo of, though I got distracted about 2/3 through it. Loved the combat.

I've never played a game in this series and I've been craving a new JRPG lately so this announcement makes me really happy. Will probably buy day 1 unless there's something horribly wrong with it.

WHAT?!

Where the fuck did this announcement come from?!

I'll be on this on day one. Grandia 2 is one of the greatest games of all time. I just hope the port is decent this time around though.

So I should probably use that new hard mode then.

What's the word on the framerate? Never played a Grandia game but I don't get the impression a high framerate would be terribly important. Doesn't mean it wouldn't be nice though.

No reason to believe they lied when they said Grandia 2 won the vote. Grandia 2 has a good reputation & Grandia 1 is easy to play these days for cheap as long as you have a PS3, PSP, or Vita.

Seems like pretty anecdotal stuff. For more anecdotal stuff, search the survey thread for mentions of Grandia and Lunar. Grandia is mentioned like twice as much.

Guys, I'm not calling people liars, I'm just wallowing in denial.

How could we have gotten so close and yet still be so far.

Oh YES.

Enamored with the battle systems of all the Grandia games, but G2 was my bestie. Roan's Warp Knife made the edges round all day long.

Sweet, definitely picking this up on day one. Really hope they have achievements for it as well. Also, amusing to read the old PC version's system requirements:

Code:
Windows 95/98/ME;
Pentium II 300 MHz or compatible (Min.), Pentium II 500 MHz or compatible (Rec.);
64 MB RAM (Min.), 128 MB (Rec.);
16 MB DirectX 8 supported 3D video card (Min.), 32 MB (Rec.);
DirectX 8 compatible sound card;
8x CD-ROM drive (Min.), 16x (Rec.).

I think I've still got the PC version somewhere in my house.

I've got it on DC as well. I played the PS2 version first though. I still remember the slowdown whenever Selene's Knights appeared.

I like the english voice acting but if I'd play the game again, I'd gladly try Hard mode and japanese VA. I remember Grandia 2 to be fairly easy.

PS2 slowdown whenever they did those trademark town camera sweeps was out of this world.

I like to think this game crashed GAF :p

Can't wait til next week, these have been some great years for Steam and PC gaming in general :D

Is this the game that the third Penny Arcade game's battle system is based on?

On The Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness Episode 3's battle system is like a mix of Final Fantasy and Grandia.

Child of Light was another recent one with a very Grandia-inspired battle system.

What separates Grandia's battle system from a lot of games that it inspires is that its characters move around on the battlefield without any direct control.

If Grandia 2 HD does well, I imagine it'll be easier to approve more ports/remakes/sequels to GameArts RPG series. :)

I actually need to play Grandia 3 again. Was so utterly disgusted the last time that all I remember about it was some bizarro mom complex, and flying.

speaking of flying holy shit totally unrelated but Skies of Arcadia on steam would make me squeal like a girl

I'd love to see Grandia I ported to Steam as well. I'll take a pass on Grandia 3, though. I have my limits when it comes to terrible characters and story.

Have we seen anything of the remaster? I have the feeling I haven't even seen a screen shot and the game is going to be released soon.

Pretty excited to play this game again, can't say I really remember anything about it other than the fact that I enjoyed my time with it

So many goddamn games to play right now and in the coming weeks and months, though

Will wait for port impressions before buying (PC screenshots looks not very promising, especially 4:3 aspect ratio and low resolution fonts)

God, Grandia 2. I remember having to secretly borrow my dads laptop because our desktop wouldn't run it. Accidentally melted the laptop when circumstances led me to having to leave it hidden under bedsheets.

To this day he thinks I melted his laptop because I wanted to watch porn in bed. Not sure if the reality is better or worse.

You deserve Steam Grandia 2 gifted to you just for this story.

Yup. Such shitty protagonist, specially coming from Justin.

This guy is like Sasuke. A POS.
Yet Justin's the one to sulk in the rain, trip and have birds mock him. I almost hear "How could this happen to meeeeeh" in the background

Ryudo's an amazing snark machine with self-awareness that he's being a dick

Justin sulking in the rain was part of the whole point. He grew up during the course of the game.

This was one of my favorite JRPGs.

Pretty awesome it's coming to Steam. Getting that same feeling of when Valkyria Chronicles came to Steam.

One question I've got is (and apologies if it's been answered) will this support 16:9 resolutions?

Loved Grandia 2! Will definitely get this remaster once it comes out!

Speaking of which, didn't like Grandia Xtreme so much, too much grinding involved and there is less epic story compared to 2. Haven't tried Grandia 3 on PS2 yet, may try this some time!

Xtreme's battle system is really fun but I found the dungeons just to be waaaaaay too long.

3 has an amazing combat system, but basically everything else is lacking. Possibly worth a play just for that (especially considering we aren't getting another one), but keep your expectations in check if you give it a shot.
