How did he get in through the Emergency Exit? Shouldn't that door be closed at all times?
The last report I saw is that he went out through the door and propped it open, got geared up in his car, then came back in and started the shooting.

My friend went to see an 11:40am TDKR show and posted this pic of the empty theatre. Obviously AM shows are going to house less people overall, but empty?
All I know is that it's far too easy to acquire guns in this country and that this tragedy wouldn't have happened if we had stricter gun control laws.
Only if you're John McClane.fuck it, not taking the bait. Sorry.
You would have to have amazing control and wherewithal to identify and shoot the gunman in a dark, crowded theater immediately after the canisters of smoke/tear gas went off. The gunman didn't wait to shoot, either. Reports are that he was firing as soon as he threw the gas. I just don't see how a civilian with a gun is going to make that specific situation any better.
There are tripwires all over the guy's apartment.
They are sending in the robots.
whats the point of this picture?

It would be the thread if a mod hadn't come into the thread and said take gun regulation talk elsewhere, to one of the many gun or politics threads. Or a new thread.

Yes! I was thinking the same thing. Aren't they supposed to go off regardless of who opens it?I always assumed that an alarm would go off when the emergency exit of a theater was opened.

I'm feeling pretty nervous for you guys... hopefully it's just a situation where the cell networks are being hit hard and it's just a matter of time before you hear from them.I have a friend who may have gone and I can't get in touch with him either.
When was this in relation to the film but?
whats the point of this picture?
There was a thread just recently where two people were holding people in a Internet cafe at gun point and some old ass dude at one of the computers pulled out a gun and shot at them making them flee. Situation handled.fuck it, not taking the bait. Sorry.
The guy clearly had some mental issues. Most mental issues develop during your late teens or early twenties. We need to make a mental checkup a requirement of entering schools, just like we make physical checkups a requirement.
Confirmed he did take a shotgun. had 4 total guns
where are you watching?

I won't be going to see the film anytime soon......especially after this just happened. No way, how could you not be thinking about the situation while watching the movie?
You need a dealers licsence to obtain anything fully automatic, so if it was actually automatic it wasn't obtained legally.
I feel like most gaffers jump at the opportunity to lecture/flame other posters who post stuff that is inappropriate - while it may be valid at times, it is often better to not quote the inappropriate posts and just ignore the poster for sake of this thread

Are you watching Channel 9 too?
What are you talking about? Lock them up? Make them feel worse? No, you do the same thing you would do with any other LEGITIMATE DISEASE, you help them get therapy/treatment. Mental illnesses are diseases like any other, and it's time we treat them as such. This is stupid. And what if someone has mental issues? Lock them up? Make them feel worse than they already might feel because of their condition? Preemptively keep them under watch? I get this is a tragedy, but this kind of response and generalization is ridiculous.

I think that it is a discussion that needs to be had. But I agree with the people early ITT who wanted to keep it out of this thread.I didn't realize mods had chimed in on keeping that discussion out of the thread. I'll bow out. Either way, just a horribly sad and unfortunate situation in every way
I can push stuff out? If I were In colorado and I lived in this town or I knew someone involved yea I would agree that I wouldn't be able to but as I'm over a thousand miles away, it won't stop me from enjoying the movie.
Is that wrong?
Children's hospital doctors states "Fortunately most of the patients are expected to make a full recovery."
This is unreasonable. Also, we are not sure specifically what is wrong with this guy. However, as a society there is such a big stigma surrounding mental illness that people are scared to seek help. A lot of people apply a lot of shame to having a mental illness.
Might be worth putting that in the thread title since this is a mass shooting.Okay, this is the last reminder people are getting. Gun control shit - out of this thread. I have a concealed-carry banstick and I'm not afraid to use it.
To those wondering about the emergency exit. In my experience they are never alarmed so people can use them to directly exit the theater and avoid the lobby.
In a situation like that everyone focuses on the shooter. Its like when you get tunnel vision. I don't mean to imply that an armed citizen would have definitely helped, I'm just saying if they were there that they may have been able to end it. Either way this is still a hugely tragic event.

Exactly. It's time we get rid of the stigma. Mental illnesses are LEGITIMATE DISEASES like any other, and it's time we start treating them as such. This is unreasonable. Also, we are not sure specifically what is wrong with this guy.
