Have you ever bought a game because a hot girl/guy was in it

I wanna say no but like I am pretty sure I was mostly thinking with my dick when I bought Valkyria chronicles.

Something about that artstyle man.

Thankfully the game kicked ass and the edelwiess ended up being the real best girl.

Probably because it's done by a hentai artist, Raita Honjou. This image below isn't necessarily NSFW...but I'm gonna err on the side of caution here. It does feature characters from Valkyria Chronicles though.

There were many, many other Raita images I could've chosen from...a 16 issue manga series as a matter of fact, with figurines and a brief OVA even. What I'm trying to say is that if you like the art style from Valkyria Chronicles, the well runs much deeper if you're willing to look.

Yeah. Raita is still making porn, too, and some of it even has similar designs to the Valkyrur from the VC series.

Left is from one of his porn series, right is from Valkyria Chronicles 2.

Nope. And I'm a person who admittedly loves fanservice.

I bought Senran Kagura Burst because I like beat em ups and I like ninjas. The lewd was just a bonus.

What would be a more interesting question is whether you will also buy the games you're buying if the protagonists for them are not designed as attractive looking characters.

If it's a good game, I'll probably get it eventually, but fanservice gets me to buy it faster. Otherwise, I can usually wait for a sale. Quiet got me to get MGSV day one, same with Cindy and FFXV...otherwise, I could've waited. I had other games to play.

I don't buy games solely for this reason, but I'm very okay when it's a feature. Bayonetta and Catherine being hot as fuck was a nice bonus to the games being incredible, as was the case with the romance options in Persona 4.

There is literally nothing wrong with what he posted. Everyone buys games for their own personal reasons, no need to shit on the guy.

The games I've mentioned in the OP are a VN series (so the characters ARE the main draw) and a fighting game (and certain characters alongside their playstyle are a very common draw for people picking up FGs.)

I may not be the kind of person who buys, say, an RPG or something because of one hot character, but I can understand it.

I have a problem with saying those characters look "hot" when they look like they are about 12

I've never bought game due to an attractive character, mostly since I haven't seen any characters that personally attract myself.

Lmaoooo I'm fucking dying at this revelation. It's like my dick knew all along.

I almost bought DOA1 when I was a kid.

But no, I can't say the sex appeal of a fictional character has even been a factor of my purchases.

Thanos acquires the fully powered Infinity Gauntlet in The Avengers: Infinity War, but loses when all the superheroes team up together to stop him.

I was thinking about this while reading this thread actually. In retrospect Nier has to be the game I own with one of the ugliest protagonists and it turned out one of my favorite experiences with the medium haha.

Though to be fair, he looks just fine in the cover art.

Edit: Whoa, beaten.

See, now, this is where things get mystifying for me.

People have been aroused by things that are not literally human beings for millennia now. Marble sculptures, drawings, et cetera are part of human history.

The ability to interpret lines and gain an 'implication' of say, the female form, is part of having a normal, active and healthy imagination.

I cannot understand people who hold zero attraction to even a realistic video game character. To me, it's like they have a disorder.

For me, there are a number of factors. One is that female characters often have body types that I'm not attracted too. Often they are too short and small. A recent example of this is Gravity Rush. Just as in real life, they seem too childlike to me and that's a huge turn off. Another is that attraction doesn't just involve physical appearance. Intelligence, gentleness, compassion, and all sort of other qualities are important to me. I'm probably not seeing personality traits that I like. Overly "sexy" characters aren't attractive to me. I feel the same way about real life people. It often comes across to me that these characters have little to offer and that they were designed by someone with perhaps limited understanding of what really makes a real life person attractive to someone who is a bit older.

Yes, Dead or Alive for example. Although I really enjoy the franchise now.

Also, the FemShep from the Mass Effect 3 cover really caught my attention, but I didn't buy the game because of that. A friend of mine recommended me when I asked if it was good, so we could say that FemShep helped a little to buy the game. I really didn't like the "dudebro" concept of the other Mass Effect covers with MaleShep so I didn't even bother paying much attention.

I think it's normal to be attracted to art. I'm not sure if some people are in denial or they really never had any attraction to a video game character. But back to the OP, I don't believe I have bought a game solely because of an attractive character

In Japan they're using a pretty boy as a lead. The only reason why they chose Papa Nier as the lead in the west was because they thought the gruff, tough-looking old man would appeal to the people more, compared to the pretty boy lead which they used because of course Japan would love a pretty boy more than the Papa Nier archetype.

So in a way. even Nier tried to use sex appeal to broaden its market.

I didn't buy these game when they first came out but I imagine the young me would think Dante from Devil May Cry and Aya Brea from Parasite Eve are attractive individuals, the added bonus to the respective game.
