Hearthstone |OT9| Our raid wiped in Icecrown Citadel

Got golden class #6 (Druid) today. Mage (150 wins left), Paladin (120), and Rogue (75) left to knock out.

I hate feeling discouraged to play the classes I've gotten 500 wins with because there is nothing to work towards. Not sure what would fix that, though.

I don't know if this would help you at all, but it sounds like they're looking at win tracking past 500 wins...

Struggle for 4 days between rank 12 and 10. Never getting to 10.
Switch to pirate murloc warrior....20 minutes later rank 10....disgusting xD
What's a pirate murloc warrior? I'm still stuck at rank 14-15 with a cookie cutter pirate warrior deck.

*edit* Has anyone been seeing a weird flickering on the background of the playing field on the Windows client? It's been happening the last 2-3 days for me, like only parts of the background.

I hit rank 9 finally after beating two Hunters for the Right of Passage.

Decided to switch things up and am playing Elemental Control.
First two match ups are Quest Rogue and Miracle Rogue and somehow managed to beat them both to hit Rank 9 (quest was harder than miracle).

I think I'm at the highest rank I've ever been so far or maybe one off. I usually don't play this much but the new expansion has been a lot of fun and I've only played a few of the archtypes out there. I still want to play more

1. Elemental Mage
2. Flower Rogue
3. N'zoth Rogue (lol)
4. Silence Priest
5. Quest / Discard Warlock
6. Ramp / Jade Druid

Gotta find a way to start using Goya again too...

When it doesn't high roll, the deck is not difficult to beat.

Seems okay. Can't really judge it though. Prep + sprint is quite slow compared to auctioneer.

It's very different from what I've been running with arcane giants. Hard to judge just looking at it. I also haven't played a leeroy list this expansion yet.

what your miracoli list?

I don't feel this way bc I feel like I get more concedes on my gold hero compared to other classes, people are more likely to throw in the towel earlier even though that's a stupid thing to do

Does the gold hero effect come into play at your rank?
Like, I can understand if it's a Legend cardback in ranks 10+, but 15+ rank gold heroes usually just mean someone farming portraits...

Yeah sometimes I feel the same way, but I keep playing mage and warrior because they are just fun to climb with, but I do end up feeling bad that I'm not playing the other classes.

I also wish you could earn 100 gold from both Wild and Standard. It would give people incentive to play whichever mode they are neglecting.

Thanks. I finally crafted Patches, but I don't own Finja or Leeroy, and I have basically 0 dust.

I also don't have any Frothing Berserker, and I need to craft another Bloodsail Cultist if I recall correctly.

On another note, thanks to Hearthstone Deck Tracker I found out that my next two Pirate Warrior matches took OVER 8 MINUTES. I don't know how people are doing the 2-minute thing.

I haven't been following your posts that much, but I feel like Frothing is probably a staple in that deck. Patches is great and all, but Frothing can single-handedly win your game. I don't know, maybe I just have PTSD or something, but I feel like that should be a priority craft probably over Patches.

You can play a hyper-aggressive Pirate warrior without Patches. It won't be as good, but you can still smorc. Those Berserkers though....

Having said that, you have Patches now. Barring any new Legendaries in the next two sets, you've probably cleared the largest hurdle for playing PW for the near future.

Frothing, BC and Finja are very important for the deck.
Leeroy can be subbed for a mortal strike or a Reckless Rocketeer

I'm aware I made many misplays, but I'm not convinced I could have won any of those games even by playing perfectly, with the possible exception of the game where the enemy was left at 3 HP. I might have been able to do something differently there.

However, I may of course be wrong. I welcome any advice that could have won me these games or could change my deck to be more reliable. I acknowledge that playing more carefully could help my odds in the long run.

I'm particularly interested if my deck has some outright bad choices, if my mulligans are bad, and if I'm going face/not face at the wrong times.

You need to get rid of ravaging ghoul. Pirate is an aggressive deck with several low health minions. Ravaging ghoul will either help your opponent clear your stuff, or simply be a dead card in your hand.

Fair point. I dusted a gold card so I could craft a second bloodsail cultist, and swapped the one ravaging ghoul out accordingly. We'll see how it goes after another 10. Thanks!

Any legend/post r5 veterans have tips for someone who's attempting the climb from 5-Legend for the first time?

It's definitely a lot of fun here due to the players generally knowing their game a little more, but I'm struggling a little. Currently at 5 + 4 stars and I'm a bit nervous about playing as I keep going on losing streaks back down to 0.

Any tips would be welcome.

PS - I don't watch streams or study up outside of reading this thread and checking decksites/tier lists. Perhaps I should watch some streams from the pros to get more insight?

After replacing the ghoul with a cultist, I played 5 more games. 0-5 at rank 15, 0 stars.

Here are 4/5 of the replays. I don't think any of these were winnable but maybe someone can correct me, once again.

I couldn't post the other replay because the client glitched and reported it as 0 minutes. That one was against an aggro druid who got an early addled grizzly protected by a taunt. I think that game I had maybe 1 weapon in the first 9+ cards and couldn't kill the taunt before the druid had a massive board of buffed enemies.

One immediate problem I see is that you have Grom in your Pirate deck. You should be ending the game by turn 8, and you shouldn't have anything in your deck that would trigger his Enrage ability.

Game one:

You armored up on turn 2, 3 and 4. You should've played your Bloodsail Raiders instead. You need to get something going on the board, especially against something like Quest Rogue. It's nice to have the Raider get buffed, but you can't wait around for ideal scenarios.

You also shouldn't have Execute in this deck. It's too situational and doesn't fit with the SMorc gameplan.
I'll edit with other observations.

Game two:

Turn 2 you armored up when you should've played Golakka Crawler. A Mage won't be playing Pirates, so just play it.

Turn 4 you choose Divine Shield for your Runt. You should've went for Windfury. This deck's MO is to push damage. If he has a board clear, you lose. A Divine Shield on a 2-2 minion won't change that. The best options for Runt are typically Windfury, +3 Attack, or the deathrattle. Obviously there are some situations where this isn't true, but it's a good general idea.

Turn 5 you could make the argument for killing his Medivh's Valet in order to protect your board, but you also need to be pushing damage at this point as well.

Turn 6 you equipped a War Axe instead of the other Arcanite Reaper. Again, you *need* to be pushing damage. There's no point in getting an "extra" armor up in. Your life total is nearly irrelevant in this matchup. If you lose the board and aren't within punching distance of killing him, you've lost the game -- no matter what your life total is.

Your opponent even gets greedy here and hits your face with Firelands Portal. Unfortunately, he's rewarded with a lucky Earth Elemental. He should've killed your Crawler instead to minimize how much damage you could do. If he didn't get that EE and you'd equipped the Reaper instead, he'd be at 14 health with you having 9 damage on board and a Kor'kron+Heroic Strike on board. You would've won the game there.

Even WITH the lucky EE, your War Axe cost you in having to add the Runt + Heroic Strike just to kill the EE. Your Runt would've both retained its shield and hit face for another 2 damage if you had the proper weapon here.

Turn 8 you should've hit the Doomsayer with your Kor'kron + War Axe (Or Reaper+Crawler if you had equipped that instead) to maintain your board. Pushing damage is important, yes, but you need to think how much damage each minion represents long-term if it sticks as well. Losing 6 damage in per-turn potential for seven more face damage isn't worth it -- especially since you didn't have next-turn lethal on hand for when the Doomsayer wiped your board.

Turn 10 you really, REALLY should have upgraded your reaper here instead of popping him at 2hp with it and then making the upgrade a 1/3 weapon instead. You can't kill him with this alone, whereas you could have with an upgraded Reaper.

I think that's enough to think about for now. Someone else can cover the next couple games, if they want, or add to or contradict my critiques.

That was my pitiful attempt to A) include Grom because he was my class legendary from when I started the game, and B) to replace Leeroy because I can't afford him.

I have Execute because I was trying to make do for other cards I can't afford yet. Sometimes it lets me kill a 6-8 HP taunt minion, which happens pretty often and seems to almost 100% guarantee a Pirate Warrior loss otherwise. Do you have a suggested substitute?

I understand the general point, but would it make a difference in this case? They WANTED the igneous elemental to die, and burning my Raiders to make it die faster would just help their plans along as far as I can tell.

From my understanding of the deck, PW thrives on Tempo. Tempo allows you to make favorable trades in order to maximize your damage. You're not (always) trading to clear the board, just to protect as much of your damage as you can.

When you get to a certain point, say, lethal in two turns or so, you just start swinging at face. PW wins by overwhelming the opponent in the early-mid game. I can't count the number of times I've died to exact lethal from the last card in the PW's hand with me being ONE turn away from stabilizing.

If you're withholding threats because you're worried about your opponent getting more elementals, then you've already lost. Someone said something about Quest Rogue a few pages back that makes a lot of sense, once you get them to invest energy in stopping your plan (as opposed to advancing their own), you've won. It's the same with Pirate, you trade favorably in the beginning to protect or build a board, then you just throw it at their face.

The skill in piloting PW comes from when knowing to throw the switch.

I edited in some more comments, if you wanna take a peek.

Like someone else said, replace Leeroy with Reckless Rocketeer. It's not ideal, but it is 3 mana cheaper than Grom and will do 1 more damage. You should be ending games before or just at Turn 8 anyway. If they last any longer, you will be out of resources and be pushed back into an unwinnable position.

As for Execute, I'd go with a Bloodsail Cultist. It acts as an extra upgrade, which can increase your damage output substantially. Plus, they are decent-sized minions and can bait out 4 damage removal so you can more safely play Frothing Berserker.

Actually, I also didn't see any Frothing Berserkers. Those can get out of hand quickly and, if they don't have an answer, can easily win you games by themselves.

And re: removing large taunts, ideally you'd use a big Reaper, Mortal Strike and/or Heroic Strike to punch through them. But if an opponent is running a ton, like in Quest Warrior, well, that matchup is just a loss anyway. It's pretty much tailor made to stomp Pirate Warrior.

Edit: I'd equate this with hedging your bets in Craps. If you put too many bets down in order to minimize the chances of you "losing," you also throw money away and make any "win" negligible. In a similar fashion here, if you try to improve a neigh-unwinnable matchup by including things like Execute, you do so by sacrificing almost every other matchup that you could/should have a much better win rate against -- like Quest Rogue. If including Execute increases your winrate against Quest Warrior by 2% but decreases everything else by 10%, is that worth it?

I understand the general point, but would it make a difference in this case? They WANTED the igneous elemental to die, and burning my Raiders to make it die faster would just help their plans along as far as I can tell.

Well first, you didn't know he was going to play the IE. And even if you did, play it anyway. One: it makes him invest in slowing you down. His win condition is getting enough time to play the Quest. Because you didn't put ANY pressure on him early, he did it with Engineer, a "non-ideal" one as it isn't one mana. It works, but it's not the fastest one to complete it with.

Two: even with the elemental, he'd need two turns to kill it completely on a 2/3 minion. By that point, your damage is hopefully ramping up, so bouncing minions back into his hand and playing a 5-mana spell should no longer be a viable option.

I wish the deck helper showed 4 instead of 3 options, or better yet that it had a reroll option to show another set of suggestions; right now I have to cancel, then press the button again to get another set of 3 to pick from.

EDIT:
Pick the next two cards that will get hall of famed

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
Leeroy, auctioneer, ice block and maybe alexstraza are the most likely to me. If I had to pick two it'd be auctioneer and leeroy, I have no idea how auctioneer at the very least dodged it this time, the card cannot stay in the core set forever as it will always impact low cost spells added to the game.

I had no idea this silence interaction worked. Mind blown.

I'm pretty sure all effects that generate a 1/1 copy of minions is something that can be sileneced. You can hover over the card and see the effect in the list of buffs/debufs. As well, if you have a bounce effect, returning a 1/1 copy to your hand will also remove that effect.

Reminds me when Priests used to run Breen asters way back when and combo them with Shadow Madness.

Gah! I can't seem to make it to r4. Every time I hit five stars I get beat down. Last match was against a Taunt Warrior and I was Mid Range Paladin. I drew four 4 mana+ cards after sending away similar costed cards and he was on curve.

Without the win bonus I'm not sure I can do this without some more serious investment into learning the meta (which I guess is the entire point).

Happy with r5 for this month, next month I think I'll read up/watch streams and try to keep at the front of the curve.

EDIT: ha, hit r4 for the first time!

I might try for a little higher...

Hit rank 13, which feels good since I had to start all the way down from 25 this month.

Might make the run to 10, dunnow though. With my win streak going I'd only need a handful of wins more but Pirate Warrior lives or dies by the opening hand so much that I feel it's more a war of attrition at this point.

Noticed file size on mobile is ridiculously bloated up to 5 GB.

Deleted the cache + data + redownloaded the game without reinstalling app.

Something about the new installation implementation doesn't really work in saving space.

This probably will be a regular occurrence with each new expansion.

How annoying.

I hit rank 10 in Wild with a version of Quest Priest. This deck is ALOT of fun because it suits my style of play (control) and it syngergizes well with the minions I've actually been able to afford to own.

Legendary cards include Quest, Kazakus, Reno Jackson, Elise Trailblazer, Spritsinger Umbra, Sylvanas, Dr. Boom, Thalnos, NZoth.

My deathrattle minions include Crystalline Oracle, Mistress of Mixtures, Loot Hoarder, Volatile Elemental, Infested Tauren, Piloted Shredder, Shifting Shade, Tortollan Shellraiser, Boom Bots x2.

Dragonfire Potion, Lightbomb and Holy Nova for AOE.

Unless it's a balls-to-the-wall aggro deck I can usually get my Quest done every game, and I have such a strong late game with Kazakus Potions, Amara healing me to 40, Reno Jackson, Elise card pack, NZoth.

Congrats! I hit rank 3 for the first time this month (before falling back to rank 4 full stars) and I'm just gonna keep queueing and just see what happens. I know what it feels like to get stuck at a certain rank--I spent a lot of time at rank 6 before finally getting 5, but I got out of 5 really easily in comparison.

There are a couple changes I have in mind. In particular fitting a second razorleaf and maybe cutting mimic pod for si7 agent. Maybe shaku but he is pretty slow in the late game where mimic pod is much faster.
