I can't help but notice how diametrically opposed Hellblade and Stellar Blade are

I do think that we're seeing two viable kinds of AAA (AA) games head in opposite directions
My point was more that industry is doing what it does best. Take what worked before, multiply the budget and do it again with a nicer coat of paint.
So that's hardly controversial.
The fact that these two opposite approaches were both a critical (and commercial) success before, might be interesting to revisit after these new games have had their time in the market.
I think it is noteworthy that 2017 was a bit of a banner timeframe for 'female protagonist' releases in mainstream IPs (we also got Control, Plagues Tale, Echo, HZD, GR2, etc. )
And notably except Sony 1p, they were all playing it a bit 'safe' with AA sized budgets.

How things have changed in 2024 might make for an interesting case study.
