They would have a live conference if it were new hardware. It's probably a new sku of Wii U with a new gamepad.

Maybe it's a new 3DS model that can double has a Wii U gamepad. Or maybe it's a Gamepad that can stand on its own, or has 3DS capability

Your using common sense. Staph. This is Nintendo were talking about. They do what they want, how they want, whenever they want. It wouldn't surprise me at all if they revealed new hardware through Nintendo direct.

Believe!

Looking at it all these years later, I can't fathom how I believed this crap :p

I don't think they're going to announce a new home console if they announce anything. I believe that they be be in R&D for a new console if anything (assuming they ever make one again =X) and this might be about some new handheld.

So, this all based on a made-up rumour (Nintendo Fusion) and a story not even IGN would run? Seriously? Are you fucking kidding me?

Yup, at this point thread deserves to be a part of the TALES FROM MY ASS series

There's nothing much to talk about in the story in terms of facts, but videogamer.com doing the equivalent of saying 'my dad works at Nintendo too!' doesn't mean the original post was also false.

Videogamer.com is the only place who are connecting the fake Fusion stuff to IGN guys's vague 'some new wii u, controller, 3ds, or something else for the holidays'

if there is something, a second analog stick for the 3ds sounds pretty possible. They already have an addon made for the current 3ds, so it would compensate for current 3ds owners. Also, theres some fps's coming for the system. Maybe Nintendo got mine craft for the 3ds? Thatd be a big game to add in a second analog stick for. MH4 would benefit from it as well.

If they intend to continue as a platform holder? Absolutely, at least for a couple more years. Learn from what Sony did with PS3, Nintendo need to fix all their problems now with the WiiU (account system, online infrastructure, pricing, third party relations, etc), so that when time comes for their next console to be released they will be able to be competitive. WiiU problem is not its weaker hardware, at least not its main problem.

Comparing the PS3 recovery to WiiU is silly imo for several reasons least not the fact that PS3 launched at $600 and Sony had full third party support to fill in the 9 months per year when there are no first party titles released.

I agree that power is not the main issue with WiiU's problems but being so much weaker than the competition that you can't get easy ports to fill the release schedule is a huge issue. A 176GLFOP GPU and 1GB of RAM for games in late 2012 was a complete slap in the face not only to consumers (esp at $350) but also to third party developers.

A new more powerful console based around x86 with full third party support would do very well. Better releasing now than halfway through the generation.

False in that it rode the wave of it's casual gold strike. I bought 3 Wii's in the day and also went in at 4am to get the first one. SNES, NES, DS, 3DS, and GB family's were great and speak for themselves. They've just happened to have faltered with N64, GC, Wii, and WiiU. To their credit, at least GC with at HW parity and easily a more powerful alternative to PS2 but Nintendo was already in the corner they are now and never got the support. This does have striking similarities but it's even worse now. Nintendo has missed countless AAA and indie games that have come to Sony/MSFT platforms. That's why they aren't my go to anymore. For hand held, I love 3DS. COnsole space, they are wasting my time with their efforts and I do wish it was different.

Me investing in their platforms and buying games isn't some nice trick to play face here. I like what I see and Nintendo has certainly had more wins than losses with me but their losses have been the most recent in the console space.
I dont get what you are trying to say. You talk about recent losses then say the downfall started with n64 lol

Why does new hardware have to = live conference? Lately Nintendo introduces games which is their main products through ND. If they feel that is appropriate what difference does it make if they do it with hardware too? Are software some throw away/bottom of the barrel asset to Nintendo that's not relevant and only save the real important products for live conferences?

Yeah, the XL was revealed in a Direct.

How would that happen? Do you still believe in fairytales? Do you still believe there will exist a Nintendo console with full 3rd party support when that hasn't happen in how many years? Do you imagine EA saying "well, now that Nintendo will release a powerful console let's dedicate all the available resources for developing for it! Let's port all the games that we don't port on PC!"

It always baffles me to see those how just own a Nintendo platform proclaiming a love for games but are not even in possession of superior platforms like PS3 and 360 which have enormous amounts of games the Wii or WiiU will never have and that's not even counting the indie rush on PS platforms.

These people are fictional. They socialise with leprechauns and yetis. They constitute the study of cryptozoologists. Civilised people haven't 'mained' a Nintendo console in significant number since Nintendo 64.

Yes and to take page from your posting 101 takes- LOL

I don't think I feel any better but I surely do take offense when my concise and thought out points are rebutted with an lol

I said what I said. I've been alive and well aware of what has happened long before the N64 days but I've already detailed what I've seen and why Nintendo is less relevant than ever in the console space. At least this time sales are there to back me up as it's not something I wish for but at least have a ground to stand on. When I criticized the Wii in the same manner for collecting dust and missing a lot of games and having a sub par account system they had the luxury of great Wii sales. That stopped and the beat of that drum grew louder with others when the sales shield wasn't there any more. As I said, Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of a record selling console in WiiU as it did with Wii.

Good point even if you might not see eye to eye with me but yes, I agree with you.

Just for reference, exactly how long was the DS's 'lifespan'? I'm sure that abandoning 3DS in favor of a new handheld is perfectly possible, but that's not a pill I'm willing to swallow just yet. Three years certainly doesn't feel all that long to me from this standpoint.

NOO give us atleast another 2-3 years with the Wii U.
It'll most likely be a WiiU revision/re-branding.

What I'd like to see from Nintendo:

A Nintendo branded and skinned Android based gaming tablet with TV out.

its probably just a 3ds redesign and a wii u redesign with out gamepad :p

This is 9 days after they are releasing their Mario Kart Bundle that they seem to be heavily banking on.

They are not dropping the Wii U. A 3DS sucessor on the other hand could be possible.

Their revisions announcements aren't usually live. For new products it's normally live but after the lukewarm response from two e3s running showing off their new console, nothing is guaranteed.

7 years (2004-2011) and it still got major releases from Pokemon and such all the way up till the end of 2012.

There is no pattern. Also, like with the 3DS, a reveal this year wouldn't necessarily mean a release this year. They could reveal it this year and release it some time next year when the 3DS is 4-4.5 years old.

They should try building hardware that is up to snuff with the rest of the industry and it might be a start in getting third parties on board and before you say it N64 had expensive cartridges and Gamecube had tiny proprietary mini discs which put off third parties in those generations.

If I wasn't on mobile right now id try and track down the source thread of the stupid fusion rumors again. Just posting the fake conference slide pictures would kill this thread instantly. I think I came across it when looking up rare atari or prototype sega hardware.

I really wish i would have bookmarked forum, there was some super interesting prototype pics in the thread from owners of the hardware. I didn't think anyone could fall for the fusion thing though.

So they should bet a ton of money in a time when their financials are not good just because there is a slight possibility that the 3rd parties might be impressed or what? Who will buy the new system at launch? The Wii U owners? Bad news, they don't buy 3rd party games (beside the fact that they would be fucked by Nintedo by this hypothetical launch). Or maybe the people that just spent some hundreds on a PS4 or Xbone? For what, to play the same games that they can play already on their consoles? For Nintendo games? Then why didn't they buy a much cheaper Wii U for that? And anyhow they won't buy the 3rd party games twice if it's the same game. So for whom would the 3rd parties hurry to port their games on this ideal Nintendo console?

Yeah, the XL was revealed in a Direct.

A revision. IIRC DS Lite was announced through a press release. Nintendo 64, Nintendo DS, Wii, Nintendo 3DS, Wii U were revealed at an E3 press conference. Nintendo Gameboy Advance and Nintendo Gamecube were both revealed at a Kyoto (Spaceworld?) press conference.

What if its a PC/PS4 compatible WiiU pad and they announced that they are exstending the Nintendo platform those machines? :O :O

J/k that'll never happen.

Even if Nintendo had a new system, I doubt it would be anything that appeals to the same audience as xb1 & ps4 after their meeting about the future of the company.

Of course, I laughed what you said is backwards, yea you said what you said but it doesnt mean anything to me because of that.

Why don't they get some balls and realise who they are for once ?, the most famous gaming company on Earth with the most well known / most loved IP's and the company that almost single-handedly saved the industry. They should not be afraid to fight for their position at the top of the gaming industry. It's a joke that Iwata has them hiding behind Nintendo Directs and 'Digital presentations' around E3 time because he is too scared to fight Sony and MS.

I wonder what would have become of Nintendo if they were scared of conflict with Sega ?...

If they build a console with an x86 8 core CPU, 6GB's of RAM and a 1TF GPU and sold it for $299 then third parties would port the big AAA next gen only games to their system and core gamers would be interested with first party Nintendo games as a hook.

Maybe a smartwatch that talks to my 3ds and can Steetpass? (QoL?)

Why don't they make a Streetpass app for Android or something so it would be worth a crap outside of Japan while they're at it.

Again, why? To sell them to whom? (I'm ignoring the improbability of the price and the imposibility of having a decent 1st party launch line up in such a short amount of time)

Holy shit, I think it might be time for me to go to bed, I read that as "Maybe a sandwich" .

If they're revealing hardware and it's not a revision, I bet on smartwatch. Or were wearables later in the schedule they outlined?

Then I'll be fine with that.

It's not like it would be unheard of, Emerald came after the DS and Black 2 and White 2 came after the 3DS. So yeah, if a new handheld comes out next year and we get Pokemon Z on 3DS next year don't worry.

They never said they were making wearables, they said non-wearables.
