Well some streams, speedruns and fighting games in particular, are also usually done by people who have spent a long time practicing and planning.I don't mind throwing a street performer a buck or two here and there. Ya know - these guys actually practice/train their craft and often have some impressive talent and skill. Streamers - well they're just fucking playing video games aren't they? Sure, some of them are more charismatic or interesting or entertaining than others just by virtue of personality differences, but in the end, all they're doing is playing a video game.
Nah, I enjoy watching others play video games quite a bit. My interest in it has died quite a bit since justintv, though.
lol, at least she seems honest about shaking her booty on cam for cash, was there even a game being played beyond rolling a fluffy dice and bending over to pick it up?!This is great too :

I actually unfollowed Man Vs Game this week. Someone who I've followed on Twitch for near 2 years.
His regression from an interesting streamer to a megaphone fused beggar has been really painful to watch. I remember watching his Dark Souls streams when the game first launched and having so much fun.
Agreed.I feel like Twitch should not be a platform for making money, period. It's awful.

The rest of the streaming community though? Fuck that. Zero interest. Obnoxious shits shouting as loud as they can as they play nothing but Call of Duty? Girls going out of their way to show off their cleavage to appease a bunch of sad nerds (because, y'know, it's so much classier than just watching porn)? And then to start blaring you with messages implying what they're producing content that's worth anything? They can do what they want, power to em, but I sure as fuck don't have to watch it.
Dude, it's pretty shitty of you to put everyone else under that blanket.
I watch a few different streamers on Twitch and absolutely none of them are like that. Also, Call Of Duty games are never the most popular games on Twitch, there's a big variety. Give it a try before shitting all over it.
I mostly follow speedrunning (mostly ds/bb one) and i don't feel that because they actually deliver huge gaming performance.
maybe it's the exception
As I click through the valley of the silicon death
I take a look at Paypal and realize there's nothin' left
Cause I've been watching twitch and Ustream for so long,
That even my mama thinks I should start my own
But I ain't never clicked a stream that wasn't abhorrent
Did you see the guy who had the child porn from a torrent?
I'm the kinda G the little homies wanna be like
On my stream in the night getting paid on a website
Been spending most their lives, living in the beggar's paradise

I don't think that's the case.It happens because people will pay if the content is good enough.
They are making bank just playing video games. No strings attached.
These men and women are smartly utilizing the current trend of game streaming culture. Sure I don't enjoy when streams are prominently doing this stuff, but in the end, I don't look down on the streamer for basically profiting off this little gaming-tech-bubble here. If I had 100.000 viewers every stream i'd open up a paypal too, maybe i'd buy some better gear, i'd quit my part-time job to allocate more time for streaming maybe. Whatever.
I mean, if people are eager to spend a few dollars on the content you create, I say let them.
I respect the hustle. If the channel would suffer harshly from the begging, the viewerships would dry up and so would the revenue stream. It's a problem that actually solves itself.
The people that donate 10$ to their favourite streamer aren't feeling ripped off or robbed, they just voluntarily spend some dollars as a thankyou for the hours of entertainment. I don't see anything wrong with that. It's just the amount of money the big streamers are getting that is making people hella salty, in my opinion. Big fanbases means big bucks, it's pretty logical.
If you despise it, go find another channel and vote with your view. That's all there is to it.
Like you guys thought, I am talking about Twitch. Everyone is asking for donations or making the donation link the first thing visible. Back in the day (justin.tv), people just streamed for fun without all of the nonsense, now it's just a bunch of beggars pretending their doing the viewers a favor by streaming.
People have donated thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars to a single Twitch channel and it blows my mind.
For example, http://www.twitch.tv/legendarylea

Yes, there are some good streamers that don't care about donations and other shenanigans - those are a dying breed unfortunately.
It's just a damn shame that game streaming has turned into idiots spamming that stupid kappa face and throwing money at people for no reason. Very difficult to find a decent channel now days that has a normal chat. Normally have to scroll down quite a bit.
The only big channel I know that has a normal community around it is Jeff Green's.
Either way, this is my oldmanyellsatclouds.jpeg moment.
The worst is when they play some accursed sound clip whenever they get subscribers/followers. Every goddamn time. -_-
Shit like that just guarantees I'm not going to be one of them.
Is Kripp still the biggest streamer on twitch? He had like 500k followers and you never see donation/subscription popups.
can't hate the hustle
more power to them
Now imagine how awful TwitchCon is going to be.
I was watching a stream the other night and 'peanut butter jelly time' would play every time the dude received a sub. He would stop what he was doing and start dancing and singing along. It just comes across as so fake and forced, not to mention obnoxious.
There's gonna be a TwitchCon?
Everyone there is going to think of themselves as the most important person in the room.
Yeah I've always found it strange when people are like "BLIND PLAYTHROUGH NO SPOILERS, BACKSEAT GAMING". Then play the game by yourself then and when your first playthrough is done, then stream it. You can't interact with someone about the game if they don't have any knowledge about the game and don't want to be spoiled or have mechanics talked about. Also spoilers are weird thing as people have different definitions for what constitutes a spoiler and what doesn't making it even harder to interact with them on any level about the game they are playing so I really wish they would play the game by themselves for their first playthough instead of getting mad at some one for "spoiling" the game when that person might not think its a spoiler. But I guess its too much to ask people to do these things when they are making so money doing it.
It takes time and money to make/stream good video content, even if it involves video games. Close the stream and don't give them the money if they suck but I'm not opposed to people asking or receiving money for quality content.
A lot of salt in this thread. If someone told you that you could make thousands of dollars a month from steaming yourself playing video games, you wouldn't do it? I only watch Hearthstone streams, and I have no problem with the little dings, jingles and recommendations for donations and subs.
It's easy to say "I'd never whore myself out doing something I love" when you either don't stream or have 5 viewers. Can't fault a person who has 5,000 people watching for hustling to make some money.
She's basically a non nude mfc model and knows how to work her audience.
"Oh someone donated, let me dance and spin in a circle while wearing my short skirt."
It works.
edit: oh and the biggest current donation is called "Biggest D". Any questions?
All I do is play games on stream. Most I ever got was 5 viewers.

Same reason why girls will be dressed like that in advertisements. It sellsI've noticed a lot of girls on Twitch with low cut tops, asking for donations while they play whatever.
rofl
Thats minimalistic as hell
Look at this bullshit. This is the cancer that is killing twitch. He is the #1 stream on CS:GO with over 12K viewers
I might just be too old for this new phenomenon, but I don't get the appeal for streams unless the game is old (PS2/GC or older) or the game is being played competitively and you're watching high level play.
