Kaz Hirai: We will let Microsoft make the first move

Golden rule of thumb if you do this; you'd better come up with something better if you are launching last.

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Technically, didn't Nintendo already make the first move?

This really means nothing. Is he supposed to say that they plan on announcing something in the next few weeks/months? What exactly would be the point of that? They've barely officially acknowledged that the PS4 even exists. What he's saying has nothing to do with a release, he's talking about an unveiling.

Whats more shocking is how is this dude still making music?

A lot of rumours are saying PS4 isn't ready, maybe not even launching 2013.

If this is true then this is Kaz' first shot at lowering expectations, dressed up in competitive PR-speak.

That has nothing to do with launching behind MS though. That's the poor decisions Sony made with PS3's hardware design with Cell and Blu Ray.

Making less profit? It did. CELL and Blu-Ray just upped the blow they took even more. But Microsoft had a pretty good install base before the PS3 ever went on the market and those weren't all Xbox owners, a lot of them had PS2s, so they lost some market for delaying their console.

Whatever, a lot of dumb things happened.

are you sure this is not all about sku pricing?

if, say, MS does 499 Sony is happy

the problem is if MS does a 299 (which I do not believe since both are arrogant and still think they can sell the same number of units in 2013 as they did in 2006 when people did not buy a 499 tablet every year)

I always said time and time again that there is no ps4 in 2013.

Sony is building a really powerful system designed to last another 6-9 years for next gen.

They also want space for themselves for a christmas holidays.

2014 it is, even 2015 if they can get the engineering and powerful chips they want for the ps4. Like shrinking the cell to 28nm and modifying it to include more PPEs and spus

"No one knows definitely when Microsoft and Sony will UNVEIL their successors to the current Xbox and PlayStation, but Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai has said that it will let Microsoft make the first move.

In the Business section of The Times today, Hirai said, "Why go first, when your competitors can look at your specifications and come up with something better?""

Unveil first, guys, UNVEIL. NOT LAUNCH FIRST.

Isn't that what they did last time which ended badly for them?

last time they launched too early.

The cell and blu ray were new tech and ps3 production was running into trouble. Not enough ps3s coz not enough blu ray diodes

This time they are trying to launch with no production issues at all

Thank you, the few of you who actually read the OP instead of jumping to conclusions.

Yeah, price is probably one of the main reasons.

Even if they have to lower their's to match MS and end up taking a slight hit I doubt it will be nearly as much as on the one they took with the PS3.

Sony is going to Sony. They are going to be LTTP, they are going to make a stronger console (on paper) and they are going to charge more than their competitors. It's just who they are.

I would love for them to change the script, but they seem very predictable.
