How popular is her and her party?

Really unpopular. Like her party is only around 10%-20% more popular then they were in the earlier 2000's. The FN's ceiling of support is only around 30% looking at recent elections. She may get past the first round of the presidential election, but it's likely she loses in a huge landslide in the second round, but that depends on the person she faces. Juppe and maybe sarkozy could beat her in a landslide.

I might need to develop a drink problem if we carry on down this road, it will end very badly.

To give you an idea what's going on right now in France.

The left won the last election, and this led to the absolute worst situation France has had in modern years.

The president is the most unpopular one ever. Nobody likes him. But sadly, he makes the whole left pay for that resentment.

On top of the various crisis and terrorists attacks (far too many), national security and "immigration"(including all forms of it) are a big thing for 2017's election.

Lepen has been rising in the polls and in the smaller elections, they are now a major party in France while they were laughed at not too long ago.

They are, according to most predictions, guaranteed a place in the second turn of the election.

You have left, right, and them, basically, only the two parties with the most votes will get into the final election vote.

Sarkozy is borrowing everything from Trump, playing on fear, on polemics, trying to get free advertising (it works, all medias keep talking about him), has had a surge in voting intentions. He is a notable racist (caught on tape), and since Trump, keeps making awful statements about french identity to seduce the alt right voters to vote for him instead.

There is a primary going on, where he is said to be "second", but most likely is gonna win this.

He was against Trump before his election, but has changed his position after he won, saying the choice of the American people should be respected, and open the eyes of the french people as to what the future held.

And on the other hand, everybody on the left side is trying to kill each other, running multiple instances, making sure the votes are split.

This is a fucking nightmare.

I think back to all the European posters who said a Trump win would entertain them.
And now they can seriously be affected by that.

Can someone who is French tell me if her ascension is likely? My gut tells me no based on how France seems to be more homogenous, but still.

Normally 0% chance

France is working in a two vote system, like a sports competition, where the first vote decide for the two "winners" for the finale match, decided by a second vote.

First vote she will win as she is now the main party, she has more than 30% of votes. the 70% that are left will be divided in 3 main other parties and 10 small ones.

Second vote, she will be quite certainly versus a moderate right party . All the voters that are not in her 30% will vote massively for the moderate right and she will be crushed with a 30/70 difference. The moderate right will take every other voter, from right to far left.

But after trump and brexit, who knows ...

It's less of a nightmare then the US election. The FN always seems like a threat in french elections in recent years but then voters join forces to crush them. I just hope to god Juppe beats Sarkozy in his primary.

Ugh, if only we had this system so all those Jill Stein and Gary Johnson supporters could have put Hilldawg as their second choice...

Only Germany can save us now.

We'll see. Just like France we'll have general elections in 2017 and seeing how Russia has actively been trying to destabilize Germany in the past, you bet your ass they'll be trying some tricks to damage Merkel, if she runs again, that is (still hasn't confirmed she does).
Luckily(...?) we have more parties sucking up to Putin, not just the fringe right AfD.

Trump and Le Pen are ''useful idiots'',
they have no idea they are being used

Well, it's not like they don't get anything in return. They know, but they don't give a fuck as long as they win elections. And as for Le Pen, I can see her fully embracing Putin.

We already had elections. FN won a lot of regions. They never won that many. All that while the left is completely weakened.

It's not the joke it used to be. (chirac vs lepen from back then)

It doesn't help her that her father was the last FN leader(presidential candidate) to get past the second round of a presidential election in France. Voters will probably remember the last time the last time her father got to the second round and join forces to make sure she does not get the presidency.I expect her to do at least 15 percent better then her father but the party is still way to toxic to even get anywere near 50%.

I have a deep love for France and the Deutsch-Französische-Freundschaft means a lot to me. If Le Pen wins though....

Once again, far right rhetoric claims alto represent a 'movement'. A movement that's a minority % of both US and UK populations. Hmmm.

If I recall in the last big election the FN won 0 regions because voters joined forces to block them in the second round even though they got more votes then the socialists. They have mayors in a few regions, around 20 seats in the EU parliament and 2 seats in the National Assembly but that is it from what I recall.

So Germany and Japan will have to save the world from us, is that where this is going?

Nah. I do think the FN will do decent next year compared to past elections they participated in, but they won't win.By decent I mean most likely 10%-20% better then her father in the 2002 presidentiall elections(Somewhere around the 25 to 35 percent range). Not sure about other European countries.

Correct.

One thing I've noticed about French people, they really give a shit about stuff that effects them so at least the turnout will be positive which should hopefully nullify Le Pen at stage 2.

After all the terrorist attacks and the refugee camps (The Jungle), and the reaction to the current government, I'm afraid of how far right the country will go.

I wish, would be very poetic, but Germany got the AFD on it's ass and Russia got a weird influence over the euro-sceptic wave.

Shit. Like the republicans in the States Russia looked like they were about to keel over not too long ago, but suddenly they're on top and dangerously healthy.

They got blocked at the senate but their numbers are frightening considering they never stopped gaining more popularity this year, and this was before the tragic events that kept happening.

The question is will voters on the left join forces with moderate and right wing voters and support the right wing candidate that comes out of the first round of the presidential elections next year to prevent her from winning the presidency like the 2002 elections.

This is what is giving me even more nightmares. The world falling to the far right. And nowhere being safe from them.

Fucking Linkspartei man.

Yes, but Russians also have influence in the SPD and not just because they cling to their Ostpolitik, see Gazprom-Gerd Schröder.

Exclusive: Riding Trump wave, Breitbart News plans U.S., European expansion | Reuters

The right-wing Breitbart News Network is expanding its U.S. operations and launching sites in Germany and France, its U.S. editor-in-chief told Reuters, as it seeks to monetize the anger and anti-immigrant sentiment unleashed by Donald Trump’s successful presidential campaign.

Germany and France in 2017, huh?

Of all the european countries next year that have elections I think france and mostly likely germany are the safest from the alt right but people should not treat Le Pen as a joke because she is a bit more popular then her father.

If it's Juppé: yes. If it's Sarkozy: ...fuck :/

The winner will still be from the right and will jump on the populism/anti-establishment bandwagon that is working so well right now. That's barely better than Le Pen.

Look at all these demagogues being elected. I'm a demagogue; I want to be elected too! Then I could hang with my buddies and drink wine and take away everyone's civil rights in the name of peace and security. Vive la France! Vote #1 LePen!

My feeling is Le Pen won't make it but I'm sure there's a 35-45% in many western contrives of far right or just want to shake things up or worried about immigration/terrorism that could be used as a base to pip the votes like in the UK and USA.

With Brexit and the negative connotations since I would think people in mainland Europe won't be so for leaving the EU or going in that direction. Pre Brexit with all the bad news over Greece, the fall of the euro currency since 2014 might have stood a chance.

While there's some similarities to what's going on around the world, voting to leave the EU, which took a lot of knocks in the last 10 years, plus the freedom of movement, the influx of 330k per year to the UK with house building not able to keep track, having the smallest homes in Europe getting smaller and having laws and regulations being decided in Belgium is a bit different to voting in characters like Trump and Le Pen to be leaders. Voting in Le Pen would be like voting in Trump or Farage. UK is never voting in Farage and France is probably the same about Le Pen. The only real example is America where they actually voted in Trump.
