Leaked footage of canceled DOOM reboot surfaced

A post on Doomworld shows off what DOOM 4 looked like before the reboot:

A grim, more military-like take on the whole thing. I guess we can be happy it got a fresh start.

edit:
There was also that leak of like 170 pieces of concept art back in 2012. This leak is more or less just that stuff in motion.

I'm SO happy that this isn't a game that actually exists. The music in that trailer alone is enough to make me want to die inside.

I hope the rebooted Doom is... well, Doom. No need to chase Call of Duty or any other FPS for that matter. Just keep it simple and focus on the atmosphere and gameplay with story and characters toned down.

Some great guitar in there.

Said this in the DOOM teaser thread, but I'll say it here too.

I would not mind a game like that. Would probably want to buy it. But it's not DOOM. I'm happy they seem to be going more in the vein of the originals with the new DOOM.

No no no no no... just no.

Honestly wish MachineGames were allowed a crack at it after their great work on Wolfenstein but hopefully at e3 id will deliver the goods.

So what exactly is the difference between what they're going for now and that? Is it the same general concept of hell on earth just toned down?

As far as military shooters go I'll say that I like when they branch out into crazy things, and demons invading a city is a decently hype concept. But it doesn't look very Doom, and going by the Kotaku investigation it was also a pretty bland take on the concept. So yeah, bring on the reboot.

Lots of hard work scrapped so I feel sorry for all people who worked on it, but they shouldn't have called this Doom. This is not Doom.

Looks like RAGE crossed with The Line crossed with Gears of War.

Zero game play in there though, could have been anything.

It looks like we lucked out. That looks like Gears of Killzone Duty instead of Doom.

Doom has no space for nu-tactical combat. It's all about fast straffing, dodging fiery shit coming from all sides and blowing enemies into a mist of red and purple blood.

Hoooooly hell I am screaming over here. I would have LOVED to see that released just to bathe in the rage from the community. Man oh man.

Wow. Thank god someone finally slapped some sense into them.
I like the look of the female character, though (protagonist?).

Yeah, I really liked her. And honestly, I think an urban environment could be well suited for Doom's mechanics as long as level design were up to snuff, but it would be pretty hard to maintain suspension of disbelief with so many blocked streets and doors.

Maybe space corridors have some worth after all.

Haahahahahahahah, I can't believe anyone thought that it would be a good idea to call something like that Doom. Good job Bethesda shut it down.

Gears of Killzone: Modern Duty

Pandering hard to the dudebro audience.

I came here to post this. Lol

I got a major Gears vibe off that trailer. I actually liked some of the expansive shots that give an epic feel to the war...so its not all bad...but that music is fucking awful.

Doom is at its best when it's fast-paced shooting against goofy as shit demons while legally-dubious heavy metal music plays. This looks like it completely missed the point without being an interesting change of pace like Doom 3.

Yikes. We all dodged a planet-sized bullet there, I think.

That's really bad. I mean, it would be military shootbang experience #142829 and as such not necessarily bad, but come on, turning Doom into Call of Doomy is just wrong.
