BLACK BAR CITY ITT
art took a major dip in this episode. I wonder if they're going back to TLA style episodes where one episode looks bad then the next looks good and so on and so forth. It would make sense since studio MIR is composed of people from JM animation so maybe they adopted the same work ethic
Wouldn't have it any other way.
Animation is expensive. I have not run across a single animated series longer than ten episodes that didn't have variable quality of animation across episodes.
So I caved and checked out episode 4. Pretty major spoilers for that episode:Any doubts I had about the series going too fast have been thrown to the wayside. Characters are developing well, and the drip-drop of recurring, but not main, characters being introduced is great. Asami Sato is interesting; she brings out a whole different side to Mako that you wouldn't expect (and it's very sweet), and is useful to kick Korra when she's at her most vulnerable.
I'm sure most of this show's audience will have felt like she did at that point, and for much of the teenage audience it'll probably be a raw feeling that they can relate to, so it instantly creates sympathy for her. Very well written.
Bolin again doesn't get much of a role in this one, other than seeing a sweet side to him (when he offered Korra those gifts for saving him from Amon), but that was quickly turned against him to emphasise the poor-timing of his good gesture, and the hopelessness of his advances on Korra when Tarrlok gazumped him with lavish gifts to try and sweeten her into joining his task force.
As for Amon, he's great. He's a terrifying villain who is calculating and manipulative like Azula, but not crazy or evil like she was, and not relatively cardboard like Ozai either. I think as far as this series/universe goes, he will be one of the more memorable characters.
I think that's all I have to say about episode 4. I'll be watching it again once my iTunes download of it is ready.
Episode 4 spoilers:
The fear and doubt that Korra showed throughout the episode that all came out in the end to Tenzin was amazing. It's moments like these that elevate a cartoon show into something greater since almost any other show has the protagonist being cocky, arrogant, courageous, etc without ever being put in an emotional state due to any type of vulnerability. Korra foolishly and hastily made a challenge that she was not ready for, wouldn't accept other people's help and paid the price for it. I don't blame her though, there's such a tremendous burden that is placed upon her just because she was born as the avatar. Cooped up her whole life without ever having to work for things spoiled her in a way though that's definitely not her fault. I can't wait to see how she grows over the course of the show now.
Pretty major spoilers for that episode:the fact he FUCKING LETS HER GO WHILE SHE WAS COMPLETELY HELPLESS has to be a slap in the face to her also

I haven't watched it yet, but spoilers for episode 4.
When it comes to amon not killing/energy bending korra, I think there is more to it then he lets on, I think he wants to do the ultimate fuck you to bending and kill korra when shes in the avatar state, unbalancing the world forever.
Bleh, there's no way I'm coming back through the black boxes after Saturday. While I appreciate the efforts to keep stuff tagged, the fragmentation between spoiled and unspoiled discussion is a downer.
How so?You guys that watched episode 4 realize that, right?Korra unlocked her first chakra (Muladhara) at the end
How so?
Tenzin says something like "Admitting your fear is the first step," or whatever, and the first chakra (the Earth Chakra, Muladhara) is the Survival chakra and is blocked by one's inability to accept and come to terms with their fear. She came to terms with it, and so the chakra was opened. That "flashback" was her first spiritual experience (she obviously wasn't there when that scene occurred, so it's a memory that she tapped into through the prior Avatar), and was triggered by her first chakra coming open.
how about we discuss which of Tenzin's kids are the coolest?
i'm all for the girl who was at the table during that one episode and told her father she would promise "no such thing" regarding teenage rebellion

Could Chi-Blockers theoretically block pressure points in such a way as to induce abortion?
Since I have a 5 year old son, the choice is easy for me. Meelo is like a little animated version of my progeny.
so he bites your head constantly?
I have many scars.
I have reading that the show is going on a break for awhile? Anyone know if this is true? I believe I read that the Fred show is taking it's time slot.
Wouldnt it be more effective to punch the person in the stomach?Could Chi-Blockers theoretically block pressure points in such a way as to induce abortion?
I am not "TEAM AMON" or whatever the Twilight fangirling equivalent is. I just say I understand and sympathize with the Equalist movement, which frankly is a triumph for the writing.
Wouldnt it be more effective to Falcon punch the person in the stomach?
