art took a major dip in this episode. I wonder if they're going back to TLA style episodes where one episode looks bad then the next looks good and so on and so forth. It would make sense since studio MIR is composed of people from JM animation so maybe they adopted the same work ethic

Animation is expensive. I have not run across a single animated series longer than ten episodes that didn't have variable quality of animation across episodes.

I know that, avatar is a lot more consistent than most anime though(literally it is one bad looking episode then the one right after is good) and I was just wondering when the drop would happen. If you want a really consistently well animated show try Tetsuwan Birdy/Birdy the mighty decode season 1.

You guys that watched episode 4 realize that
Korra unlocked her first chakra (Muladhara) at the end
, right?

So I caved and checked out episode 4. Pretty major spoilers for that episode:
Any doubts I had about the series going too fast have been thrown to the wayside. Characters are developing well, and the drip-drop of recurring, but not main, characters being introduced is great. Asami Sato is interesting; she brings out a whole different side to Mako that you wouldn't expect (and it's very sweet), and is useful to kick Korra when she's at her most vulnerable.

I'm sure most of this show's audience will have felt like she did at that point, and for much of the teenage audience it'll probably be a raw feeling that they can relate to, so it instantly creates sympathy for her. Very well written.

Bolin again doesn't get much of a role in this one, other than seeing a sweet side to him (when he offered Korra those gifts for saving him from Amon), but that was quickly turned against him to emphasise the poor-timing of his good gesture, and the hopelessness of his advances on Korra when Tarrlok gazumped him with lavish gifts to try and sweeten her into joining his task force.

As for Amon, he's great. He's a terrifying villain who is calculating and manipulative like Azula, but not crazy or evil like she was, and not relatively cardboard like Ozai either. I think as far as this series/universe goes, he will be one of the more memorable characters.

I think that's all I have to say about episode 4. I'll be watching it again once my iTunes download of it is ready.

I only watched the "last half" clip so i can be partly fresh for saturday (just piecing the other pics in my mind right now) so.. Pretty major spoilers for that episode:
I actually had Amon letting her go in my head and i'm glad he did since it shows how fucking badass he is and also how much he believes his plan will work (plus he gets to mindfuck Korra yet again). Its like they listened to the people who called Ozai not being as good and learnt hard from it.

as for Korra its gonna be real interesting with this experience and i wonder if Mako hanging with Asami will factor into it as well. Sucks for bolin from what i saw since he looked pretty down.

going by the pics its cool seeing Asami now in the fray and how Mako acts so differently (shipping wars begin :p) and Tarrlock seems he could be a decent guy (he claim he tried to talk her out of the duel she asked for) but just comes off as really slimy to other people.

It was nice seeing the rest of the Gang with Aang and Sokka looking like the boss of bosses plus Toph representing for the new order persona she has built up. I wonder what really happened there since at first Aang and Sokka didn't look happy at all and then Aang went to being serious/angry going in for an attack (which is really not like him except when he was under the influence of the Avatar state).

Also interesting is that it triggered when Korra is unconcious so some of Aang's stuff might be coming to her and we might see Aang in spirit form soon enough.

Episode 4 spoilers:

God damn this show just keeps getting better. I loved Mako and the new chick throughout the episode. Seeing that jerk actually get flustered was amusing and this can lead up to some more shenanigans though the shippers will go to war over this.

As far as to Amon, that guy is such a boss. It's really clear that his endgame isn't to just equalize benders and non-benders, we just don't know what it is yet. But it's apparent that he's not to be taken lightly and is probably scarier than any of Aang's villains.

The fear and doubt that Korra showed throughout the episode that all came out in the end to Tenzin was amazing. It's moments like these that elevate a cartoon show into something greater since almost any other show has the protagonist being cocky, arrogant, courageous, etc without ever being put in an emotional state due to any type of vulnerability. Korra foolishly and hastily made a challenge that she was not ready for, wouldn't accept other people's help and paid the price for it. I don't blame her though, there's such a tremendous burden that is placed upon her just because she was born as the avatar. Cooped up her whole life without ever having to work for things spoiled her in a way though that's definitely not her fault. I can't wait to see how she grows over the course of the show now.

The love parts in episode 4 exists to screw with shippers, but also actually helps move the story along and effectively develops the characters. And it'll only get better.

Pretty major spoilers for that episode:
the fact he FUCKING LETS HER GO WHILE SHE WAS COMPLETELY HELPLESS has to be a slap in the face to her also

I haven't watched it yet, but spoilers for episode 4.

When it comes to amon not killing/energy bending korra, I think there is more to it then he lets on, I think he wants to do the ultimate fuck you to bending and kill korra when shes in the avatar state, unbalancing the world forever.

Yup, that has to be absolutely devastating for her. "I could kill you now but your death would just rally the world's benders together and it would be more trouble than it's worth right now."

Chopped down her pride then hurt her feelings. Amon is a boss.

That seems most likely. It could also be that he wants to turn the avatar against the world somehow. Because regardless of when he kills her, she will be a martyr. So maybe he is going to ruin her publicly first.

Bleh, there's no way I'm coming back through the black boxes after Saturday. While I appreciate the efforts to keep stuff tagged, the fragmentation between spoiled and unspoiled discussion is a downer.

Don't worry, we'll still be talking about it.

Tenzin says something like "Admitting your fear is the first step," or whatever, and the first chakra (the Earth Chakra, Muladhara) is the Survival chakra and is blocked by one's inability to accept and come to terms with their fear. She came to terms with it, and so the chakra was opened. That "flashback" was her first spiritual experience (she obviously wasn't there when that scene occurred, so it's a memory that she tapped into through the prior Avatar), and was triggered by her first chakra coming open.

Ah, I gotcha.
Yeah, that was a such a trickle of bad ass Aang. Did you notice that when Tenzin was running towards her, she wondered if it was Aang. Damn, I can't wait til we get a full scene with him.

No offense but can you guys hold off episode 4 talk for a couple days. Otherwise this topic is just going to be wall to wall spoilers for the next two days.

if it's behind spoiler tags it's not really difficult to skip or ignore. Have some self-control, Raxus. Start up a new discussion and soon enough the black bars will disappear

how about we discuss which of Tenzin's kids are the coolest?

i'm all for the girl who was at the table during that one episode and told her father she would promise "no such thing" regarding teenage rebellion :D

Honestly? It is impossible for me to pick one.

Like... I seriously can't imagine picking one. I love the entire family, to be honest. Pema, Tenzin, Jinora, Ikki, and Meelo make an awesomely lovable family. They're my favorite characters so far (aside from Amon).

Meelo just has too much swag for anyone else in the show to compete. They all need to get on his level.

Since I have a 5 year old son, the choice is easy for me. Meelo is like a little animated version of my progeny.

I have reading that the show is going on a break for awhile? Anyone know if this is true? I believe I read that the Fred show is taking it's time slot.

:(

This thread has become basically unreadable thanks to the leaked episode and the spoiler pic discussion. Augh.

Can't wait until Saturday for things to go back to normal-ish.

So many spoiler bars... it's becoming The Walking Dead thread all over again.

I've been trying to enjoy this show, but my Fios box is strange, every two minutes the screen goes black for a second, as if the signal is delayed. Happens throughout the entire show. This also happens when watching AMC, making watching MadMen nearly impossible.
It's killing my Korra Time :(
