Still the entire outcry over Lighting being in anything is ridiculous to me, the mere thought that she would ruin a game she's in is hilarious. This fanbase, man.

These people have become one of the problems with the FF fanbase tbh. Every Japanese mainline RPG does it and no one acts surprised. The hyperbole here and in other threads is beyond embarrassing.
No, XIV is designed to have a ton of fan service. This is just one example. It's a neat little bonus that will be mainly aesthetic.
Man, I wish the CE didn't come with an artbook. I love Akihiko Yoshida's art direction more than I dislike whatever this stunt is. Wish I could cancel too, but I'd be loosing one of the few books to have his drawings in.
Honestly, I don't mind costumes at all. ARR is all about FF fan service, YoshiP has said that since the very beginning. Even if Lightning is hated by lots of people it doesn't matter, just don't get the costume, don't equip it if you happen to get it as a reward, and move on. The more fan service, the better.

Yeah but it's not even tastefully done. They keep shoving Lightning down out throats, and this is like the apex of it. It's not like a gunblade sword or something, you will literally have Lightnings running around in the game.
Not to mention people just generally do not care for the character. It'd be tacky even if it was Cloud though.
They are so desperate to make her into something she's not. They want her to be this big thing but no matter how much they push her she isn't. She's not a great character. No matter how much they try to say she is.

If she isn't as popular as people make her out to be (I don't like her, for the record) then the amount of people wearing her outfit will be minimal. And I doubt it will be only her (FFXIII) outfits/weapons that will appear in the game, they probably have stuff from many other games already, so there will be something for everyone.

FFXIV is by a Japanese developer and Lightning is popular in Japan. There is the reason. She just is not as well liked here.
