I'll probably watch it again for the sake of comprehension.Pilot
Ace Bernstein is released from prison after three years; four racetrack junkies make a bet that could be worth millions.
Also, just a reminder that the second episode will be on HBO Go at 9pm ET tonight. If you do watch that episode early, please use spoiler tags to discuss it before the broadcast premiere next week.
Yeah, me too. Bugs me for some reason, but it makes perfect sense given that next week is on up against the Superbowl. Ratings are going to be awful no matter what, and they need to give viewers some options.i kind of hate when they do this lol
Still not 100% sure of what's going on all the time, but I'm enjoying the ride.
ace talking to himself on the bed reminded me of swearingen and the indian head lol
When I saw Hoffman, I was expecting Phillip Seymour Hoffman. This show is now officially lame.
I love how Mann likes to reuse actors from his stable. Him and Dennis Farina have like a 30 year working relationship now.
The lack of discussion in this thread disappoints me.
Another Mann regular appears in the second episode. And we also get an appearance of someone from Deadwood, at least I'm 90% sure that was them. Both good, but not as awesome as.*WANG FUCKING CHI
* - contents of spoiler are probably only awesome to me.
Just watched the first episode.
High quality but directionless and not that interesting. Good shows need to give you a clue as to where they are headed and what they are about. Just showing me a couple horse races, perspectives from bettors, jockey's, trainers, owners and financiers without some sort of context just isn't going to do it. I'll watch the next one or two but if that doesn't change I will not stay tuned.
Mann regulars mixing with Milch regulars just tickles all my emotions perfectly.
it's strange. I found the show really compelling despite the fact that I had no idea what was going on a lot of the time.
Seriously, Mann killed it in the pilot. Never have I found a horse galloping so...powerful. But the way it was filmed in here it looked extremely dangerous and exhilarating. Something missing in other horse-stuff.
I also hope John Hawkes makes an appearance down the line.
It'd be awesome if they could John Hawkes in there, since he's worked with both of them and he's great. But he's pretty busy these days.
Quasi off-topic, but with all the Deadwood alum that show has had, Justified needs to land Ian McShane as the final season villain. Bullock vs Swearengen in that show would be bliss/
The pilot made a lot more sense the second time around. I picked up more of the dialogue and the "Handy Guide to Understanding HBOs Luck" helped, too.
Lol that really helped.
Indeed. That and Alan Sepinwall's newest review. He really lays things out and puts it a better perspective.
Totally. Ugh. Never even really been around horses, but that was tough. Anything to do with animals getting hurt or dying is hard for me to watch. Fun times ahead with that I'm sure, haha. The horse racing stuff was very well done. And it got to me again when they had to euthanize the horse.

Woohoo!
