Hey MangaGAF, I'd like some suggestions for some good mangas to read. I've stopped reading much manga after catching up with Berserk and really want to start some reading new ones. I enjoy genres like romance, fantasy, and mystery with some of my favorite mangas/animes are Berserk, Vinland Saga, Spice and Wolf, Rurouni Kenshin, Mob Psycho, and Monster. Thanks for any help.

Keijo, Murcielago, Shinozaki-san Ki wo Ota Shika ni!, Bloom Into You, Yurika's Campus Life, Kobayashi-san chi no Maid Dragon, The Private Report on My Lesbian Experience with Loneliness, Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro.

i need a finished romance that isn't garbage.

I don't really know what I'm looking for but I can tell you what I liked, which is pretty much (in the realms of finished stories) Toradora and Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun. Maybe Whispered Words or whatever that was originally in Japanese, I forget.

Echii is okay but what I crave is something that will destroy me utterly. Has to be finished though. None of this catching up and waiting on weeklies bullshit.

It's time for you to read Punpun.

Otherwise: Once Again, Ressentiment, Getenrou, Onnanoko ga Shinu Hanashi.

This was a return to form. No other series can mix the despair of human existence and boners quite like Prison School.

Kiyoshi attempting suicide boner to have an eternal boner due to rigor mortis, so he can get back at those that bullied him to that point, it's both depressing and amusing.

It was also great to see him getting the first glimpse of a realization of his feelings for Hana. Shame that Chiyo had to appear.

Prison School is the only smut manga I can think of where the guy gets almost as much sexualization as the girls

It's actually kind of admirable

It's a shame the series takes a bit to get to the male sexualization, leaving a lot of people to drop the series way before it.

I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, I'm just into plots that are the written equivalent of LSD

Well, when I feel like tripping I often do read Dorohedoro instead. It's cheaper.

Also Jintor, read Lovely Complex.

Tomo-chan 506

Oh surprise, Jun is still a fuckboy you stupid fuckboy Jun.

Grand Blue 28

The sis actually disliking Iori and not being a bro-con is a great way to take this. I am...completely unsurprised that none of her tactics are working tho; the no sell from the porn magazine was especially hilarious. Encyclopedia Titanica is a pretty great name for a boob rag tho. Seeing her reaction being just like Iori's was priceless, even funnier when she tries to put her bro-con face back on and goes "I'm going to kill you"

Oh shit, that's right, this is a diving manga.

Man, there are too many funny things to talk about with each new chapter of Grand Blue. This shit is so good.

It's also nice to see the sister lose her guard and image for a while and it was particularly nice to see Iori call her out on some shit, which I was waiting for. I knew there was some reason we all liked Iori and it's because he's not actually THAT big of an idiot. It's really great to see a Japanese Man character who isn't about deferring to his elders and parents.

Immortal Hounds 30

I still get weirded out with the two handmaidens of Mama shit-talking her all the time; for someone who is as much of a huge bitch as her and tortures people for questioning and not following orders you'd figure she'd nip that shit in the bud. Guess that explains why Holly Olive went straight from 0 to psycho so quick; making some beat up dude suck her tit is...really fucking weird. Kouda is in the shit of it now, Jesus.

Kenzaki isn't an idiot and never was so of course he'd realize everything they're doing and Mama coming to smack her down was pretty cathartic. Shitty way to die but Holly is immortal too, it's just going to suck coming back from that.

*sigh* So much manga to read

Swap ⇔ Swap ch18

Swapping would be useful for bypassing the height restrictions actually.

Good(?) thing that didn't cross that forbidden line though.

Haruko knows how to focus on things that matter, lol.

Murenase! Shiiton Gakuen ch21.5

I'm sure Jin would gladly live the same dangerous life as his.

Mahou Shoujo Tokushuusen Asuka 10

You know, this manga is still better than it really should be. You'd figure a "realistic" depiction of magical girls and how they would be used by the military would be full of edgy material, and it certainly is dark (and of course is full of fan-service, can't get around that) but it tends to engage in those heavy elements a little better than most manga do probably because it is consistent in tone and by striving to be realistic, in the way that some manga do and instead go overboard and make everything way too gory or violent or whatever, it actually deals with things like PTSD or the morality of erasing memories. I'm not gonna pretend it's handling them at an incredibly raised level but it's still doing it with more deftness than you'd expect.

As far as the chapter, things are going as you'd expect; Rupture joins Spec-Ops and things go back to normal.

I expect that the memory erasure is going to be brought up later, though maybe not if this series is so long between updates and it won't have time to shore up it's side-plots.

Elf-san wa Yaserarenai. 3

That fish needs to get swole.

What will be our next chubby Demi-human that makes it difficult to read this on my phone on the train?

Ace of Diamond Act II 68

Eijun did it but also everyone else really delivering. This was a fantastic chapter.

I hope Haruichi can really show something on the mound and I also hope Kanemaru gets some chance at redemption.

Yamada has ended ? Great time to binge read it then. I really enjoyed the beginning but dropped it after a few boring chapters. I'll see if I cant get to the end.

Saiki Kusuo No Sainan 90
2nd funniest Shounen Jump manga after Gintama

Yamada-kun and the 7 witched END

it was ok but I wish we had seen how Nene and Ushio got together. The last update we had on Nene was that she still didn't care for Ushio I think?

Hilarious that it implied that Yamazaki and Leona are STILL not together.

Really wish more focus had been put on those two couples as they were my favorite characters.

I haven't read this but was the ending as bad as Yankee-kun and Megane-chan.

Miyata being cute. So concerned. Ippo will probably blush a bit and reveal the truth that he himself feared being broken but is back at it again.

Fuck you Jun.

The spoilers for Shokugeki sound kinda hype.

Azami insists that Erina has to participate as a member of Central since she's till on the Elite 10, so she resigns. He also says the rebel faction is technically allowed as many non-expelled members as they want (which leaves the door open for Isshiki and Kuga, obviously)

No, but a couple of things did get off-screened, e.g. the main heroine lost all of her memories and it basically got explained away in a random panel in the last chapter (although its a big of refrigerator logic since it makes sense when you think about it)

Fuuka

I don't get why the manager of the competing band is mad. She is mad because Haruna came back to get Fuuka...except said manager was attempting to steal Fuuka as a band member in the middle of Blue Wells' show. Like, they were actively sitting there waiting for Fuuka to show up. There's no fucking universe where the competing manager should be mad in any way. Not to mention that the method of recruiting Fuuka they used was trying to make her feel bad that Haruna was supposedly into Sakura/Akitsuki/Akitsuki's ghost (whatever the fuck she is).

Now of course, Blue Wells' other members have good cause to be mad at Aoi since she almost left the band because she had an unconfirmed belief that the lead singer of the band wasn't in love with her...but the band doesn't exist as Aoi's dating service, its literally their jobs. I can't say I much like the transformation of Aoi from "cool rocker chick" to being a love-starved twit for Haruna.

ehhh, not really. Others authors like Furuyama or Kago or even some Jiro Matsumoto's stuff is the equivalent to LSD.

Dorohedoro weirdness is more at surface level, it actually has a mystery plot to hook the reader which evolves and it's eventually explained, factions that appear and take more center stage, character arcs, etc. The usual in fiction.

Yeah, at this point in the manga, the plots have all connected and everything has pretty much explained itself.

All that weirdness served a purpose and wasn't just random. Like, if anything a lot of people discussing this manga have become pretty surprised how everything is going because everything is getting explained and...the explanations make sense and aren't dumb.

Dorohedoro is a pretty bad "everything is crazy and doesn't make sense" manga because while everything is crazy, it also all makes sense.

Astra 5

Why does Japan constantly try and get me to feel bad for rich people? Like, this is a thing they do.

UQ Holder

I got a kick out of the fact they stopped a ridiculously epic battle just to out Kirie's crush on Tota.

Fairy Tail 522 & 523

That was great, but he could have made it even greater by actually making the whole emotional part with Gray and Natsu more than just two pages. Its not like he hasnt wrote sad emotional moments for friends before. Could have felt more powerful that way, instead of just having the tears come so swiftly.

Yamajo End

Kurosaki could have ended up with Miyamura...though Im glad he runs a pretty boy curry place...fitting.

Miyamura with that one last attempt at Yamada, also nice.

Fairly alright ending, enjoyed the whole run through the manga these years. Ill miss it.

Rereading Bleach again reminds me how awesome this manga is. Kubo was doing magic with the world building and chararcers.

Oh yea Bleach was awesome for like a huge portion of it's run and only really started to lose steam at the fullbringer arc imo. That Hollow Ichigo vs Ulquiorra is still one of my favorite fights of all time.

Kubo really knows how to make cool characters.

I'm still mad at how he jimped Yamamoto tho. His last fight was cool, but dying like that :(

I am about to read an official english release of Chihayafuru even if its only digital. What a world we live in (it's only $7.60 for the first volume on Amazon if you want to support)

The real trick of Grand Blue is it's abilities to use a trope, identify it and then toss it out and have something happen that never does when utilizing that trope.

Astra 23

Yoooooooooooo, speaking of which, I knew that this was going to happen (I read way too much manga apparently since I can spot twists like this a mile out) but I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the mangaka who made Sket Dance's last arc be about gender dysphoria tackled someone intersexual.

I love that this dude touches on topics no other shonen does.

I still need to update myself on this one of these days.

Dorohedoro is awesome. Still one of my fave mangas.

Astra meanwhile is starting to get good.

It was fun to begin with but we're starting to get into the meat of where the mangaka is at his best; tackling subjects most manga do not, such as intersexuality or not having to follow in your shitty parents footsteps and all the coincidences and traits of the characters are starting to be noticed by people and small threads are starting to connect. Obviously we have no idea what it means at the moment, but there's something very interesting going on with why they are in the situation they're in. That one chapter with the parents dropped A LOT of information that I'm sure is related, specifically the genetic act that got passed.

I love rereading Hueco Mundo arc, its so awesome and so fast, GrimIchi and UlquIchi are still the best fights and miniarcs.

Soul Reaper Arc is so good that it can bring tears.

Rereading Bleach also highlights how Kubo wants you to see how much Ichigo cares for his sisters so that's another reason why he's so mad at Rukia's brother that he's trying to kill her.

Thanks for all the suggestions, GAF. I'll probably start with something lighthearted like Helck first, and move on to the others once I'm done that.

Detective Conan 988:
Wow, things are continuing to pick up. So in addition to whatever is going on between Kuroda and Rumi, it seems like Rumi might have a fake eye, too. Gosho is really trying hard to make her seem suspicious, even though she can't really be Rum (unless he's breaking all of his established rules). But things are really tense between the characters, so I'm hoping we get some big reveals soon and find out something about her past. It was also interesting to see that she apparently solved the case before either Conan or Kuroda figured things out, too. So she's definitely got strong deduction skills.

Also, it took me a minute to even remember Yuminaga given how long it's been since his last appearance.

I am about to read an official english release of Chihayafuru even if its only digital. What a world we live in (it's only $7.60 for the first volume on Amazon if you want to support)

Man, it's about time.
