Mass Effect 3 |OT| Space Jesus Returns (tag all spoilers)

EatChildren

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Too busy making the Mass Effect comic books or some other crap no one cares about(except EatChildren).

EDIT: He actually is writing the new comic series lol.

Finally making my way through the game, almost at the end I think, and lol pretty much
every new team member from Mass Effect 2 has died. Jack died back in ME2 on my playthrough (good riddance), and so far Mordin, Thane and Miranda have died in ME3. Only Jacob and Grunt are left. Jacob almost bit it during his one mission tho
I really hate BW for doing that.
They basically set up all the ME2 cast to either die in ME2 or die in ME3 if they survived. It's pretty awful. Fortunately you can get them to live, but it shouldn't be that hard. It's like they had a thing against that cast.

It looks like Bioware is going to be hosting a big Retrospective on Mass Effect panel at PAX East, moderated by Geoff Keighley. Casey Hudson for one will be there, but no Mac Walters.

2 p.m. on Saturday in the main theater.

If someone is dressed as a Dorito Pope..

Started playing my PSN+ copy and decision to not give them even a single buck feels fully justified now -
technical quality is tragic (15 fps cutscenes wtf ? )
and the game feels more dumbed down than even ME2 was.

So far my most enjoyabled moment was when game asked if i want to have dialogues auto selected for me. They weren't kidding with going after CoD crowd.

I don't know what you mean with 15 fps cut-scenes. I don't know if there are performance issues on PS3. PC version works beautifully, anyway.

I don't think this game is dumbed down as much as ME2. I think the flow of combat works great, and despite the upgrade system lacking depth, it's really nothing that bothered me. Encumbrance and those things do make the system deeper than it was in ME2, and in many ways, this system is better than ME1, too.

Yeah, I don't get the auto dialogue thing. That made me laugh.

So I bought the game on PC earlier and played a few hours of it. I'm not sure if it's just me, but visually it looks pretty bad in areas and I can't seem to find any real settings to fix it.

I took some pictures using fraps. As you can see, everything is blurry and ew

It's weird because in other areas it looks alright

Was the 'blurry-ness' intended? If not, is there a way to turn it off?

I heard the game had many FPS issues on PS3, that would explain why.

But yeah, it runs flawlessly on my PC too. 60 FPS with 0 slowdowns, except that one weird time i had to fight 30 Cerberus guys at the same time in a multiplayer game, but that's another story.

I think there is some options you can change in some config.exe file in your ME3 folder that you can't change ingame. I could be wrong, but i think this blurry-ness is due to the game's FXAA?

What annoys me a big deal is that things like the "hanar mission" bug aren't fixed .

it's a know bug and yet ... if you're on PS3 or 360 you're screwed ..

As long as you do every little sidequests as soon as you get them before continuing the Priority missions, you should be ok no? But yeah, Bioware and bug fixes doesn't seem to go too well together. In one year, they released like what? 2-3 bug fix patches? And most of it was for multiplayer.

Did anything ever happen with the program to be able to use texture mods natively without needing to use TexMod? TexMod never liked my ATI cards and I'm waiting for the ability to use the high res texture mods before starting a trilogy re-play.

-Edit-
They did! Awesome.

If you're playing the game on PC, you will do yourself a service to use custom textures. I loaded up so many custom textures, it literally took 12-15 minutes to start the game. It in no way affects FPS, because no game will ever near using 8 GB of RAM. So 1,5 GB of textures always loaded in memory means no performance issues. Might be the same with 4 GB.

It crisps up everything ten-folds. You can see the knit-pattern in Vegas shirt. And it is not a coarse knit. You can see tiny, tiny scratches on Garrus' shoulder pads. It's quite literally the best thing to happen to ME3 and ME2. But ME2 only had some character custom textures. This pack has a ton of custom textures for The Citadel, Normandy, floors, door-panels. It's crazy. I love it.

Oh really? Cool! Link?

Does this help on start-up time on the game, but increase load time before entering areas?

Not really.Actually NO ..i encountered the bug by activating the termminal conole , got my dialog but went to do some weapon training. when i got out the required terminal console wouldn't activate.
I didn't even got out of the citadel .

so yeah the hanar bug sucks big time because i loved my llittle human thief but i can't finish this quest.

Can't you just load a previous save or even use the "Restart Mission" option in the Load menu? It should give you that everytime you enter a new zone/mission, including hubs such as the Citadel i think. So even if you get the bug, you can just go back and try again.

It's not a mission it's a quest ..you're in the citadel and you better not deviate of the intended path or you'll risk the bug to trigger.

So no you can't restart. and my save was too advanced when i realised the bug .. i actually saved , went on my computer to find a walktrought and realised my mistake painfully once i got back in the game.
Googling my problem and the fact that it's was discovered very early last year ..made it even more annoyingt to see that it wasn't fixed when i played the game with PSN+ since last week.

The fact that those kind of know bugs weren't fixed yet they outputted several patches and extensions after release is baffling.

Okay, needs a bit of help. I'm doing a side mission and I have to find terminals or something on the Citadel.

I've already activated that one and got some dialogue. Why is it still showing up on my screen like that? Do I have to do something else? Are there any other terminals? I looked around and nothing came up

....

And how do you get/use custom textures? You don't get banned for doing so, right?

Not sure if it's right place to ask, but still related.
I played some of ME on xbox360 (wasn't impressed how it run), and now tried ME3 on PS3 (psn +), and loading times being really bad, it froze my PS3 too.
So, I have a question, which version of trilogy is definitive, or at least runs satisfactory? On PC, I presume?

Bisnic

Really Really Exciting Member!
Yeah if you want to play those games without any sort of FPS(60 with 0 slowdowns with me using a PC with 2-3 years old hardware) or loading issues, the PC versions are the way to go. Loading times can be long in ME2, but there is some trick to lower them from 20 secs to 3 secs if you search a little. Otherwise, they're short in ME1 and ME3 without needing to tweak some file.

Plus you get to use those high res textures mods if you want to.

No controller support though. But the games play very well with a keyboard and mouse, so hopefully that won't bother you too much.

Bisnic

Really Really Exciting Member!
No controller support? Why would they do that? Doesn't make sense.
Well at least it runs better. Thanks for reply

Well, the good thing is that playing the PC versions allows you to use 8 powers without needing to pause the game for the Power Wheel, while the console versions only have 2 or 3?

And well, there is the superior mouse aiming too.

But i guess it sucks for those people who play PC games on their comfy couch with a controller in hands.

I'm about to start my first ME3 play through. I got ME2 on PSN, and the loading times were horrendous. I ended up picking up a cheap copy on Steam and it was so much faster.

I just went ahead and bought ME3 for the PC. It was $20 with the From Ashes DLC a few months ago. I can't even imagine playing on a controller now.

It's too bad about the load times because I wouldn't mind getting all the trophies on the PS3. I play as a reckless Vanguard which leads to a lot of death on Insanity, and without that quick load time it's drudgery.

I've avoided spoilers for ME3 for all this time, so I think I'm going to play without the new ending installed at first to see what all the fuss was about.

Make sure to at least try the Citadel DLC sometimes, it's the best thing they have ever done. Hilarious and lots of content.

And yeah, playing with the original ending sure is going to disappoint you. Not that the Extended cut won't, but it will be worst with the original. :p

Lol you got the hanar bug in reverse ?

Did you get the assets at the end of the mission ( did you visit all the terminals ( across the citadel ? ) if so it's a bug . Else , well you've still things to do.

the hanar bug is teh opposite , you can't use those terminals no matter what you do.

Are the terminals all across the citadel? In the mission description it just said the embassies, and after looking around I couldn't find any.

there is one terminal at the embassies (that you can't use if bugued) after you have to go to the docks and so on i might remember it wrong but it's on the citadel .

Favorite class throughout the trilogy guys?

For me it was engineer. Fairly weak in the first game, but got a lot better in 2 and 3. Drones were great, cc was good, they can strip enemies of any and every defense and they do decent damage with incinerate and a decent gun, all without ever being exposed.

Through the trilogy?
Well, i did like Engineer, finished all games first with one.
Adept is also kinda fun, as is Sentinel...
But i think my favorite is still Soldier. In my mind, Shepard is exactly that, and Soldier is fun to play. The games work just fine as third person shooters with Soldier, so why not?

Currently playing ME3 with Soldier, ammo power + concussive blast triggering tech combos is fun and useful.

I like Infiltrators, nothing better than one shotting enemies with a headshot while everything is in slow motion.

Soldier is better: one can do that with Adrenaline Rush... or they can use it to fill an enemy with lead metal (i doubt ME universe bullets are made from lead). Adrenaline Rush and let the Revenant sing.

I never liked Infiltrators nor Vanguards as much as other classes, i've played with them but they're too... specialized, limited. Sure, Adepts are Biotic specialists but within that they're versatile, unlike Vanguards. Same with Infiltrators and Engineers.
Soldiers can kill in variety of ways (well, those ways are mostly limited to guns but i don't have problem with that), Adepts can toy with enemies, Engineers have many options and drone/turret is fun, and Sentinels are just so damn versatile.
Vanguards are shotgun/melee and Infiltrators headshot enemies from Cloak but they really seem to be stuck to those roles. Only snipers (and sometimes shotguns) really benefit from Cloaking and Infiltrators don't work as Power users really (and why bother, Cloak-shoot is so effective). Vanguards are built too much around Charge. And i don't like shotguns (or melee combat in Mass Effect).
I'd love Infiltrator if the game had large open areas with working stealth, allowing me to truly flank and assassinate enemies.
Vanguard, well i doubt anything would make me like it unless i could designate the destination for Charge manually, not just right next to an enemy. Or give me combat-biotic hybrid without Charge but with some other unique Biotic power.

Gaf i think i have a problem with liara, i talked to her at the
citadel
and kissed her, after that nothing else happened, no dialogues or events, why? I meet with other people too, but i'm always loyal to her.
I'm near the end of the game
after the fall of thessia(the dialogue with her after this mission does not count lol)
and i was expecting more events with her :(
What's wrong?

if you kissed her at the citadel , then your next event with her will be before you go on the final chapters of the game ..
it's after you attack the cerberus base to retreive the ai ... you'll get another scene before the final attack on earth

and yes that's all if you went for romance with her.
I do hope you have the extended cut dlc on your console or pc otherwise you might have some problems. ( i do think the extended cut dlc add another liara scene mid game too )

The extended cut added another scene near the end of the game. But you need to have Liara(or whoever is your LI) in your squad during the final mission to see it.

You will get some more time with your Love Interest as you near the end, but its pretty much the same for all characters, compared to ME1, and even ME2 to some degree, there is a real lack of talking and doing things with your team mates outside of missions.

How exactly is it worst than ME1 and ME2, where in ME1, your squad mates never had something new to say unless you completed a big mission like Feros or Noveria or a mission concerning them like the Krogan armor or Pilgrimage data, or in ME2 where after 2 or 3 missions, all your squad mates keep repeating the same quotes until you get to do their loyalty missions, where once completed they will again repeat the same shit after 2-3 missions.

At least in ME3 every squad mate has something new to say after every missions(excluding the ones using multiplayer maps). Sure, the fact that a lot of times you don't go into "dialogue mode with reply choices" sucks, but there is still a lot more new stuff after every missions.

Went ahead and bought this on PSN, along with The Citadel. Rented it at launch and loved everything but the ending. I also missed Extended Cut, a lot of side stuff, as well as trying the multiplayer. Figured it was worth giving it a more thorough shot.

Yes, they are several others on the other floors of the Citadel. You need to go to the map, scroll through the pages (LB and RB on Xbox), and there will be new points of interest labeled as terminals that you need to activate for this mission.

I just beat the game. Didn't really mind the ending to be honest. Or at least not the definite ending, some of the things leading up to it could have been handled a lot better. But hearing people bitch over it made me postponing playing the game for a really long time and made me think the whole game was going to be terrible. It's not.

The thing that strikes me the most when playing Mass Effect though is how much I really love those characters and that universe. I never get invested in fantasy world otherwise but this one I've really enjoyed throughout the years. It's weird how BioWare manages to write some great characters and great lore, while being absolutely terrible at writing the bigger, over-arching stuff.
