Vinnk's Villiage Lite:

1. Chrono Trigger sold out at the 2 small stores, the larger stores still have lots of copies.
2. Only 6 Xbox 360s currently available in my town (5 new, 1 used elite)
3. Tons of Wii systems and PS3s (and tons of used units for both of them)
4. Blue Dragon can be bought for 1000yen at 2 different shops.
5. Copies of WiiMusic sit on shelves both new and used (they stopped running the kiosk video for it and replaced it with Animal Crossing videos)
6. Lots of copies of Animal Crossing but it was selling well on Saturday when I went.
7. Sadly, lots of used copies of Little Big Planet. I was hoping that with all it's customizability that people would hold on to this one a little longer, but it seems to be following the same sales cycle as any other hardcore game.
8. Blu-Ray sections from the game-only stores were removed last year (be remained at the big electronics stores), but recently all but one of the game-only stores have removed their UMD sections. The good news is that they are using that space for more actual PSP games.

Graphs updated through 11/9. It looks like DSi had equal impact on hardware shares compared to PSP-3000 (PSP-2000 is a typo, I'll fix it next time).

Also, PS3 is currently winning Wii shares:

I really really like those graphs. That's an awesome quick view of something I had been wondering about. Wish I had seen them earlier.

I hope CT keeps selling for the rest of the holidays, because stalling before getting to 500k wouldn't be nice

Shame about AC. Good on CT though. Stupid Square tax might drive new players away, but I hope even old time players buy it so we can get a new game

Shame ? Aren't those good numbers ?

Nice sales all around, AC just beats out CT like I was afraid it would. It'll be interesting to see how much AC impacts hardware.

Wasn't this expected as CT was just an improved port of a 10yr old game?

Can you think of any other 10 year old games that were slightly improved for the DS off the top of your head?

Hmmm...

Well AC is the 3rd time (5th time actually) rereleasing the game

CT is the 3rd Time...

It's the biggest Nintendo release for winter holidays for Wii, it sold 300k from 800k shipped, while the previous big hits from Nintendo made 800k (Brawl, end of January) and 600k (Mario Kart, before GW)... and with 7mln Wii sold

Pretty much the same result Dragon Quest Swords made with half of the userbase and without a winter holidays release.

Because we all know Animal Crossing is typically the IP which is all about 1st week numbers, right...

Are you confusing Vesperia with Abyss? Or you mean disappearing the week after reappearing? Anyway, Abyss looks to be riding on the tv anime show popularity, like Inazuma Eleven for example although Abyss budget re-release was released in June last year. 2007 sales for the budget re-release (49,945) already made it go past Rebirth and 600k (606,410) so with these extra sales it might still reach 700k.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if Namco has something Abyss-related to show in Jump Festa to release when the tv series ends (which should be March-April I suppose).
Only just saw this reply...I wasn't confusing the two games. I meant I was surprised to see Abyss back in the chart and lingering for a while. But you explained it now - the anime show must be re-kindling interest.

handhelds and home systems are 2 different things... can't be compared, but honestly i expected more numbers from AC Wii, considering it will not have the same legs AC DS had.
Nintendo never put on the market too much stocks, usually they do the opposite: a small stock, demand raises due to hype (see Wii Fit last year).
Think about new Super Mario Bros, first stock was around 900k, it sold 870k on 1st week, and if Nintendo provided more copies, numbers should have been higher.

AC Wii sold around 37% of first shipment, Chrono Trigger sold almost the first batch, which one has disappointing numbers ?

AC Wii will have legs, but not as much as handheld version had

that was due to the production shortage of the balance board

None of em

both are rehash remakes (both 3rd time.. or even 5th time if you count the e card reader version and the n64 version)

and funny you mention NSMB since it sold similarily to ACWW which sold 300k the first week,...

in other words.. first weeks dont tell us anything

you really think AC Wii can sell 4mln copies as AC DS did ?

home systems and handhelds have always had different tie-ratios, AC DS gave a huge boost to DS sales, Wii sales seems like were not be so affected by AC release...

did you think wii sports would sell that well when you first saw it.. probably not.. the market is not as predictable as you might assume

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

So it have to sell 4 Mil like the ds version to be a success ?

Ah, quite a difference between the Media Create number. It'll be interesting to see how close that CTDS Famitsu number ties in with the MC total. Hopefully we'll get the MC numbers leak again as it's interesting to see the sell-through rates.

I've got to agree with Moor-Angol on this one. Nintendo games do have legs, but you are overlooking some serious facts if you think that AC may go on to sell like the DS release.

1) Like Mario Kart, it's a game which has already found success on DS, so has a large fanbase ready to accept the title at launch. There's nowhere near as much word of mouth going into long term sales here.

2) DS/Wii audience, both current and projected, are totally different. Nintendo aims to have a Wii in every home, and a DS for each person. Based on those projections alone, you'd imagine something like Animal Crossing would sell a quarter to a third of the DS numbers, purely because people in the same house will share out of convenience, and in some cases, necessity (not many households are going to have multiple Wiis, for instance).

3) The game is not a large revision. It's more like a console version of an existing handheld game. Some extra events and no doubt a fair bit of extra content here and there, but the essentials are shared.

Of course the new rules for success have been defined in the LBP bomba thread. Get ready for almost every game to be a bomb from now on according to the criteria layed forth in that thread.
But in all seriousness it doesn't

I don't think that AC Wii will sell like AC DS, but it will sell the initial shipment for sure. (not like Wii Music)

I expect AC Wii landing in the 1.3 - 1.7 m territory, with Mario Kart Wii type of legs.

Be thankful the bar isn't set at Wii Fit, Wii Play, Super Mario Kart and Mario & Sonic Olympics levels. :)

A game not meeting publisher's expectations? Didn't know this was a new way? *shrugs*

AC:CF won't sell as well as AC:WW, that's pretty much a given. It's also pretty much a given that it'll sell over a million in Japan alone judging by the first week numbers and given the nature of the franchise. I can't recall Nintendo issuing any (even vague) sales expectations but considering they don't really have anything else besides WiiMusic they certainly expect the title (and the evergreens) to tide them over the holiday season.

Humm, I was expecting a bigger Wii jump, PS3 seems to have stabilized there in the 17k.

He's a pretty swell guy in my books anyway.
The Last Remnant did pretty well, I wonder what the HW sell through is and if they made a second shipment for the game or if this is just the difference between MC data and Famitsu data.
