No chance.

80k is more like it.

Really? The console 78K on the random week of the Splatoon 2 Testfire and no new software because they increased supply to around 78K. If Nintendo were to ship 100K, I'd think with mario Kart 8 Deluxe + Golden week it'd be able to sell 100K. Or are you saying Nintendo isn't going to stock that much?

Yes, though not quite this bad.

We don't talk about it because there's nothing to talk about. It was dead since it 'launched'.

OT: Great Switch sales, the new emperor of Japan has arrived

Yup, looks like the next 5 years will be pretty much switch discussions, ps4 is already below 20k and most of its biggest games are already released.

Keep in mind switch is doing this at $299, imagine what happens when the price drops happen amd pokemon bundles come.

Well it's not like the 3DS wasn't literally the industry for most of it's lifespan. If the switch was a success it was always going to be like this. If the switch was not the Japanese traditional games industry would have ben dead, deeeeaaaaaad. Like Vita dead.

Isn't the Switch cheaper in Japan?

I knew switch would take over eventually, i thought the 3ds, price, and size would hold it back for at least a year, then when they released a dockless sku amd a slimmer model it would blow up in japan. Its already dominating without any of those things.

Ah ok that's makes more sense now, thanks! :lol :p

Yeah the Switch is most definitely the next Japan's choice console so surely most Japanese third parties will jump on board in time!

I think the core proposition is appealing to japan. It's eating into the Vita's base and frankly it's a pretty cool device for a kid. I know if I was a kid having inbuilt local multiplayer handheld and console quality games to play during school breaks/lunch would be pretty damn cool. In fact I'd be all over that. it also doesn't stick out like a sore thumb if your an adult.

I wonder if the relative popularity of the Switch in America and Europe could actually hinder it from beating the 3DS's first year in Japan. If the Switch continues to sell out everywhere, Japan is going to get a smaller percentage of shipments than they did with the 3DS, which is still far more popular in its native country than anywhere else.
A fair thing to wonder about. Looking back at the last big supply-constrained machine, seems like Japan got about 1/4 of the first year Wii shipments. Not total parity with the other regions, but not too far behind. If the rumor of them hoping to ship 16 million in this current April-March year is true, a similar split would give Japan about 4m in that time.

So it seems like the Switch just can't get out of that 40-50K rut. Capcom, I hope you're seeing these numbers and thinking long and hard if going multiplatform isn't the best option for Monster Hunter 5. The West hungers while Japan fasts

If Switch sales stay this stable and even increase as expected with Mario Kart 8 I wonder (hope) it will cause Square Enix to release the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI sooner rather than later. Maybe even go back and patch Dragon Quest Heroes to fix it's frame rate issues, assuming the retail was indeed as bad as the demo and even if it wasn't. I hope this will cause Capcom to get a new Monster Hunter out sooner rather than later and not screw around with trying to make a PS4 version.

Lol at all the wishful thinking. These publishers are not solely dependent on nintendo.

I more wonder how Japanese third parties feel about the fact that it looks like they're mostly irrelevant in determining what platform is a success.

I wonder if the timing of DQXI's Switch release is even up to Square-Enix. Wouldn't surprise me if Sony had some kind of timed exclusive deal on the high-end version of the game to push PS4 sales in Japan.

Like normal? Since when was the last time Japanese third parties singlehandedly determined any platforms success? The PS2?

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
Why the hell would SE sign a exclusivity deal with Sony when this game was always planned for 3DS and who knows for how long for NX? There is nothing to gain for SE.

The Switch version is coming later because the version isn't done and they can use the extra time to implement some special features to Switch release to encourage some double dipping.

I expect a Spring 2018 release for Japan - the game might actually perform quite solid on Switch with a +5m userbase

PSP and even arguably PS3 vs Wii. It's only this past gen that they've been impotent really.

The PS3 sold roughly the same as the PS4 in Japan. it's "success" was hardly determined by Japanese 3rd parties Unless your more describing it's relative longevity in Japan alone. PSP they made a impact but your right in they were the largest contributing factor.

By the way, was it known that Zanki Zero (the new Survival RPG thing from NIS) is made by the Danganronpa team ? Since it's only 10% done, we probably won't see Danganronpa V4 for a while.

DQXI Switch probably doesn't have a release date yet since it's not as close to being finished and ready to be released as the PS4 and 3DS versions are. I wouldn't doubt that they put the game on Switch when it was already being developed for PS4 and 3DS.

This whole quibbling about the performance of the Switch is just making the whole early console launch period even more insufferable. Hopefully it becomes a known quantity in the market relatively soon, so the focus can shift more towards game titles rather than the overall potential of the switch as a game platform.

Which planet was Sony living on to ship more than 10,000 units of Parappa? It's not 1999 and PS4 isn't PS1.

Patapon might sell okayish (given it's only the first one, maybe not) but LocRoco is going to be lol worthy.

They announced the NX version at the same time as the PS4 one. If a deal was in place, they wouldn't have.

Announced is basically all it was. We still haven't seen what DQXI Switch looks like and Square-Enix have yet to confirm which version of the game it is based on. Sure, the console was under NDA until January, but there's been ample time to at least say *something* concrete about the Switch version since. They were willing to show the player character running around a barren street two years ago on PS4 - it wouldn't be that difficult to quickly showcase the Switch version in an area that's not very demanding from a technical standpoint, give how flexible UE4 is (assuming that's the version being used).

As for why you'd sign a deal with Sony from Square-Enix's perspective;

- You get surefire monster sales from the 3DS version.
- You get Sony to foot part of the bill for development and/or advertising of the UE4 version. That version should sell decently in Japan as well.
- You get to see how Switch sales shape up early on, as the system's success was far from a sure thing back when DQXI was announced.
- You get people to double dip when the Switch version is released at a later date.

There are very few downsides here for Square-Enix, and "Play It First On PS4" deals are nothing new for Sony.

So MCS' numbers have Switch go up, Famitsu has it go down. Huh.

As for why you'd sign a deal with Sony from Square-Enix's perspective;

If the bolded in any way factored into the decision, I don't see why they would announce it at all for Switch at such an early stage. That way they tied their own hands by having to develop that version, whether or not the system is a success.

About the Sony marketing/paying: isn't that what they have been doing together with Nintendo with the last few remasters of older DQ games on the 3DS? It would be a curious thing indeed if they flipped the situation completely and managed to get Sony to pay (which I find doubtful since I hardly feel Sony care enough about Japan to pay a premium for one of the biggest games' marketing rights, especially since it has limited appeal outside the region).

Sony has given a lot of support for DQ Heroes and Builders. They made a massive deal about Dragon Quest "returning home".

It doesn't make sense at all. Japan isn't a major market for the PS4, DQ is not a big franchise outside of Japan. Whether the Switch version launches with PS4 or not we're talking about like 20k 30k extra PS4 sold here without a switch release to compete with if that as a switch version is already announced. It's launching day and date with the 3DS of the two platforms that's the one that'll have the biggest impact on any PS4 hardware bump etc.

The benefits to SE and Sony are so minor I'd question the competence of whoever thought it up. In that case it was either really, really cheap for Sony thus SE got an awful deal, or it was not and Sony got completely screwed. DQ is big but's not changing fortunes big when it's confirmed to be on all 3 platforms anyway.

If Sony had a say do you not think they would have pushed for some sort of Vita port as well?
