Assuming it opens anywhere near that number, it's higher then i expected after what happened with their last Vita game. Isn't the trend (in Japan) that when a game has a very bad reception, the next game in the same series performs worse?

Guess with god eater going for simultaneous worldwide release i am thinking this might be another PS4/steam release rather than PS4/switch.

Yeah I'm not sure what would make people think a switch release was likely.

Rakuten Books Ranking Week 25, 2017 (Jun 19 - Jun 25)

***WARNING***

* Note: Games on the Rakuten Books Rankings are ONLY based on sales at Rakuten Books and does NOT count games sold by other retailers at Rakuten.
** Note 2: Games on the Pre-Orders Ranking are counted as net sales, so it might possibly affect the games listed on the Sales Ranking, since those sales are NOT added afterwards.

----------------

EDIT: It seems, this will be a slow week. Pikmin TVCM had really helped pre-orders.

I wouldn't use that Vita game as a gauge for anything - handheld; spinoff etc.. Unless we're using like, Dragon Quest Monsters Joker 3 as a gauge for DQXI.

02./00. [PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2011.12.01} (¥8.380) - 349.756 / NEW

01./00. [PS3] Mobile Suit Gundam Extreme Vs. Full Boost # <ACT> (Bandai Namco Games) {2014.01.30} (¥7.980) - 269.940 / NEW <80,83%>

Doesn't look too bad, considering no arcade version and they'll be getting western sales this time.

Speaking of western sales... I'm guessing this one is PS4 in Japan and PS4/PC in the west. Seeing how their cash-in anime games used to be Vita or 3DS, and their last few announcements have been PS4 with a western version announced, I'm guessing this is gonna be a bigger focus for them going forward.

Wonder if it'll pay off for them.

I'd assume the current sales for GE are enough to warrant the project, especially if you expect some 200k on PC in the west as well. Of course, I don't know if they expect an uptick on the new release over the previous ports and, again, we still have no idea how the console releases actually did outside of Japan.

That said, Bamco's been a good case study on the PC with their Tales of releases and the 'novelty of first release' bumps. Looking SteamSpy you can see the degradation entry on entry for the series (of course, some part of that is also likely owed to the poor reputation Bamco got themselves with Tales of ports):
gM5acfO.png

Over 50% of the initial "new audience" is gone from trackable PC sales, and it is unlikely they all moved to console. If you paint expectations based on the former performance and end up with the latter, you'll likely be in for a rather rude awakening.

And we've been seeing this over and over as the first entry garners attention and exposure, but subsequent entries pass by unnoticed or have poor retention of "new fans" from the first entry.

I'm surprised Ko Shiota got the same percentage of votes as the others. The guy created the Wii U.

Machine translation:
Proposition 2
Tatsumi Kimishima 896,879 6,277 0 97.70% passed
Shigeru Miyamoto 895,843 7,313 0 97.59% passed
Shinya Takahashi 896,393 6,763 0 Passed by 97.65%
Shuntaro Furukawa 896,388 6,768 0 97.65% passed
Ko Shiota 896,357 6,799 0 Passed 97.65%

https://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2017/170703.pdf

Edit: This was the vote for board of directors iirc.

Proposal No. 2: Election of Five Directors (excluding Directors who are Audit and Supervisory Committee Members)

This proposal was approved and resolved as originally proposed. The Five candidates, Tatsumi Kimishima, Shigeru Miyamoto, Shinya Takahashi, Shuntaro Furukawa and Ko Shiota were elected, and all five candidates assumed office as Directors (excluding Directors who are Audit and Supervisory Committee Members).

Better legs due to install base?
Because so far any info points to great ps4 numbers

DQ is as mainstream as it gets for a JRPG, these COMGnet numbers don't account for the huge casual gamer base that don't tend to pre-order games. These people will be there on launch day and will tip the ratio in favour of the 3DS (by alot).

I think that the difference will be much smaller then what people thought when the game was announced (i was reading things like 3:1, 4:1 difference) and still think.

cw_sasuke

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free
3DS version is much cheaper too - the casual/mainstream audience that doesnt preorder games will just pick it up in the first week.

PS4 will still doch much better relatively than most of us anticipated 1-2 years ago.

I agree
PS4 performance would really be a surprise for a hypothetical GAF reader who come from 2 years ago to nowadays DQ11 release results imho

Yup I agree, the difference will be way smaller then those ratio's. But to be fair predicting these things are always a crapshoot, especially if a game is a couple years off. PS4 HW sales have been pretty solid since the 2015 price-cut, whereas they were downright horrible until that point. So those predictions weren't all that strange imo.

Yes I think it is more a matter of ps4 being able to better align its Japanese sales to its own ww performances than users being out of focus back in the days

Am I the only one that is a bit irritated that every time a new Japanese game gets announce it just for PS4 and not PS4/Switch? I feel like Sony has third parties in the bag and Nintendo looks like they have none (I know, SEnand few have said they are supporting switch) despite Switch being a big success.

Also I do hope Nintendo is smart enough to reroute some switch from USA and Europe to Japan so that Hardware sales gets a big boost when Splatoon 2 drops
