Media Create Sales: Week 4, 2012 (Jan 23 - Jan 29)

I'm a loser and looked over random Nintendo games (Chris's database via Famitsu):

[NDS] Face Training (Nintendo) - 22,526 / 113,131 (Came with camera)
[NDS] Personal Trainer: Walking (Nintendo) - 16,927 / 88,338 (Came with pedometer)
[NDS] Metroid Prime: Pinball (Nintendo) - / 15,541 (Came with rumble pack)

And who could forget this gem:

(the Kid Icarus stand reminds me so much of it)

Slide Adventure Mag-Kid

It did so well it didn't manage to crack the Media Create Top 50 its week of release, nor does Chris's database even have a record of it existing!

I can't believe I actually spent time doing that since Kid Icarus: Uprising's performance will have literally nothing to do with bundling a stand with it..

Hmm.... It seems I made the (common and huge) mistake of using personal experiences as a basis for wider extrapolation (of the three people I know buying KI:U, two of them are doing so primarily because of the stand).

However, I still think there is merit to the idea of bundled peripherals boosting sales in some quantifiable way, but I'll find some data to back that up before exploring it further here.

We talk for a peripheral that adds absolutely nothing to the gameplay. It's just a stand.

And even i am moderately surprised
But he paid more than 40 bucks for his iPad stand! Lol. :(

Then can someone put the price of his copy of KI up to 8000 yen then so he gets to pay equivalent ? ;)

New Super Mario Bros Wii came with an invisible Mario and Luigi face towel packed in and it sold gangbusters. Check your game cases, you might have missed it.

What's the criteria for this chart? Following your links I see Bomberman Ultra PS3 in a previous chart, so I guess it's not just retail games, but as they include platform I guess it excludes PS1 classics as they are multi-platform?

Edit: Sorry, I see now that they also have a separate "Game Archives Chart".

Presumably as Ferrari doesn't show up in any of those charts then it must have been only #2 PS3 PSN game for December, and not #2 overall. Surprising to see how little presence PS3 has in those charts.

Slide Adventure Mag-Kid's peripheral isn't a stand for general purpose use, it's a mouse/stand hybrid and it's necessary to play the game. Fun game.

Edit: Also, for Nintendo peripheral games, the obvious elephant in the room is the PokeWalker.

If I may revise my theory without risking further embarrassment, I was thinking more along the lines of multi-use peripherals, where the bundled whatever could be used in more games than simply the game it came with. This would separate single use accessories (Pokewalker, the photo book with Spirit Camera, etc) from things like WM+ and the 3DS stand, though obviously I haven't substantiated my hypothesis with data yet.

If anyone cares the second Inazuma Eleven film is done at a gross 1/3rd less than the first.

I'm sure the Mag-Kid slide pad would've been used with more games had it actually sell...

Why neglect this Nintendo??
It wasn't exactly a good year for the GBA if a ~300 000 selling title is #1. (From memory, actual number might be slightly higher.)
The reason why they don't bring over the Mother games has less to do with sales and more with content.

Famitsu superior!

As well as for Armored Core V...and Super Mario 3D Land.
I'm still astonished seeing a 3D Mario doing so much better than both Galaxy in so little time. The combination more 2D-3D than pure 3D + portable pretty desired system really worked :D

I don't mean a localisation, Mother 4 should be made, I'm certain a fan translation for it will come out down the line, and I think that's about as realistic as you can get and its enough I suppose.

Nintendo should give other platformers the same 2D/3D treatment, it works very well for handheld platformers, sure its a Mario platformer but thats not the only reason (Super Paper Mario?), its clear there's an appeal for this type of gameplay.

How long do you think it will take for 3D Land to outsell SM64, if it ever does so?

Mmh. It should be at 1,6 millions, right?
Considering 3D Land is already around 1,3 (MC) / over 1,3 (Famitsu), and seeing how it's selling with a continuous pace, it could outsell Super Mario 64 at the end of this year, but it could happen even before.

Mario Kart 7 being the top selling 3DS game of 2011 after only 3 weeks contending with MH3G and SM3DL is quite a feat.

I would love to see another Mother myself but apparently Itoi doesn't want to continue the series. The last one told of her death anyhow.

Maybe he could tackle the topic of video games from another angle, in another genre even. I don't think Nintendo would be opposed to another game by him. The question is if he's interested in that.

He makes a cameo appearance in a GB game called For Frog the Bell Tolls by Intelligent systems, btw. As I just found out from Wikipedia.

That's not entirely true, I'm not sure why they sat on the completely finished Mother 1 (perhaps low sales of DW1/FF1 put NOA off?) but Mother 3 was only passed over due to it's late release on GBA. Same for Rhythm Tengoku.

:(
Btw, IIRC it was on decline also on PS2 with the third chapter, even though it was never so big, not as big as Tekken or Street Fighter at least.
SC2 was absolutely huge, it shipped over 4m worldwide in the end iirc. Going PS2 only for SC3 was one of the biggest mistakes Namco's ever made.

That didn't stop Capcom from bringing over AA1~3 as DS ports. Of course you could argue that they would have ported those to DS either way but the Western sales must have factored into making those ports. Also the DS versions (at least some of them) have English language options in Japan. I think GS1DS was published after the Western release.

And if low DW1 sales were offputting, why were 2~4 released regardless? You know that M1 actually is set in America as opposed to M2's Eagleland? The Mother games are very revealing comments on the video game genre. And even if you need to know the original cultural context to understand everything (as well as stuff lost in translation) the fairies in M3 are a likely content issue. Cross dressers in games like PMTTYD were censored as well.

Gee, too bad Capcom doesn't make Mother and Rhythm Tengoku, huh?

NOA didn't publish DW2-4. I don't think it really matters where the Mother games each take place, or what minor instances of questionable content they might include, that gets adjusted in localization. Like it was for Mother 1-2.

Namco should thanks One Piece popularity... the game looks like a good fanservice (even with the problems on the framerate).

Particulary, I don't like Musou games, they are too boring. This one is an exception.
