Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain multiplayer reveal on IGN this Thursday

Re-posting from the old Gamescom thread...

Someone on the Metal Gear subreddit figured out the entire Afghanistan map.

Explanation at the link (and in the imgur album) shows that the released MGSV world map was actually just Afghanistan morphed to be difficult to make sense of. Pretty exciting, gotta say, since it means that the game is even bigger than previously thought. The redditor who figured this out also notes that the scale seems pretty off with the map, and that the 4000m mark should be more like 8000m based off of an iDroid distance indicator.

Here is a link to the first part of his/her discoveries

Bonus image showing that the parts of the overall map that was released are actually just repeating off angle copies of other parts of the map.

Congrats to jimhouseman84 of r/metalgearsolid!

I found this thanks to The Snake Soup, which aside from having pretty toxic forum members, still is a good place for MGS news. It sucks that the forums are just so bad, since Ravi Singh and a select few of other people around there are great. A pretty good place for opinion articles on MGS stuff is META gear solid, but doesn't have any kind of community part.

Hmm none of the links are working for me.

Edit: now they are. Stupid thing.

Can't wait for the return of the best multiplayer game ever created. Unfortunately I doubt it is what IGN will show this time.

Also: LOL. Someone said MGO is clunky? Probably the most fluid and fast online game on consoles ever.

What's wrong with you folks?
MGO1 is back online since ~8 months and MGO2 since 2 months.
Just check https://savemgo.com/forums/

Well, I haven't had any luck running the first iteration. I actually built a PC that could - not only play current and upcoming titles but - do a good job of emulating PS2 games. As far as the second installment, I don't have CFW running on my PS3 - nor do I have any plans to implement it.

Well, that was not enough for me :)
I'm very happy to play my favo online game anytime again :D

So you play The Specialist Mod for Half-Life too, huh? ;P

Honestly, as much as I love it, I can't justify buying a new PS2/PS3 when I'll be jumping on the PS4 bad wagon as soon as TPP drops. Man, I don't even have a working home PC!

If you think you are dedicated, then you are clearly unaware of just who Screaming Meat is - and what Screaming Meat is willing to do for his fellow Diamond Dogs.

I'm still playing CS 1.6, but that's another story ^_^
CFW PS3 aren't that expensive on eBay anymore.

uhm, I guess people will just play offline until their security is maxed or something?
meh. waiting for MGO, which was great in mgs4 until cheaters came.

Multiplayer seems cool but I'm not a fan at all of being able to really steal assets from others (well if I'm the one stealing it's no problem of course, but I don't want to lose the stuff that's on my base >_<)

based on how they are referring to it as your "forward operating base," it's a separate base from the motherbase you build in single player. BASE.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.
Goddamn, the IGN player is beyond garbage and i don't think the youtube video is 60fps, right?

Save us BlimBlim.

Honestly, that multiplayer functionality looks cool as shit. It's Dark Souls invasions taken to the next level in a very "Metal Gear" way. It's the reason why everyone's Mother Base will be different. It's gonna suck if you can actually just lose all your staff and resources just because another guy infiltrated you. It's like Dark Souls invaders literally stealing your souls. Though that video indicates that simply you detecting the other guy automatically kicks them out. Still hyped for MGO3.

Man, this looks like a whole other level of stealth game.

The genius of the Mother Base gameplay isn't the introduction of a Dark Souls-esque "passive" multiplayer mode, it's the fact that for all intents and purposes we now get to design our Metal Gear level.

I think TTP is going to be a really comprehensive package, like PW and Substance/Subsistence before it.
