Miniature Gaming-Age (WH40k, Warmachine, Etc.)

Like the Storm Raven, they keep trying to shrink the thunderhawk it seems and it looks wrong.

Yeah, looks like GW designed the ship, realised it was too big/complex, then quickly changed the designs to shrink its dimensions down for production.

I like the other two though, the Necron one kind of reminds me of the alien fighters from Independence Day.

The Necron and Ork Flyers look exactly how I envisioned them. Definately liking the variance in the Ork plane which is exactly as it should be. Lots of interchangeability there.

As for the Stormtalon I think if you took the some smaller AC from elsewhere it would look far better. As is the overly large AC make it look unbalenced and about to tip over. I get what they were going for, with the huge gun recalling the Apache turret and warthog gun, but it doesn't work and the landing gear on the turret are just stupid.

Also here are the prospective rules from DakkaDakka

Space Marine Stormtalon Gunship
130pts + upgrades

BS4 AV11
Fast Skimmer
Supersonic
Aerial Assault
Ceramite Plating
Deep Strike
No transporting ability

Comes with Twin linked Assault Cannons and a Twin linked Heavy Bolter than can be upgraded to the following
Twin linked Lascannon
Typhoon Missle Launcher
Sky Hammer Missle Launcher 60" S7 AP4 Heavy 3

Escort Craft
Can be attached to a unit of deep strikers, and will appear within 6" of the deepstriking unit

Hover Strike
Can convert to a skimmer but not move in order to recieve a +1 to BS

Dakkajet

BS2 AV10
Fast Skimmer
Supersonic
Aerial Assault

Twin linked Dakka Guns
Strafing Run- BS 3 against anything but jump infantry and skimmers.
Waagh Ability: During the round of a Waagh, all guns may fire twice.

Upgrade Fighter Ace which gives the Dakkajet BS3 against everything

Burna-Bommer

BS2 AV10
Fast Skimmer
Supersonic
Aerial Assault

Burna Bomb S5 AP4 ignores cover, large blast (dropped during the movement phase) single shot
Scorcha Missle 24" S5 AP4 ignores cover, blast
Grot Gunner- BS3 weapon looks like a dakka

Waagh ability: During the round of a Waagh, all guns may fire twice.

None of them are opentopped by the way, and all can take red paint job.
Blitza bomba is slightly more then a vendetta and carries two bombs.
Boom Bomb: S7 AP 4 one use only blast, 2d6 for armour penetration.
Waagh plane and grot gunner (Big shoota)
Supoersonic
aerial assault
Can't drop a bomb and move flat out. During movement, stop 1" before the target.
roll 2D6
2: Chrash, scatter 2D6 and and put down a large blast S9 AP2
3-4: The bomber and the target both takes a S9 AP2 hit, no bomb drops.
5-9: Bomb drops, scatters D6.
10-12: drops bomb as above, shhots with the supa shoota (all hits pinning) and may then fire again it the shooting phase.
I think that is it.

As for shopping I usually just go through the Warstore or ebay.

So I ordered an Ork Dakkajet. I'll probably build it as the more expensive Blitza-Bommer variety. I'm looking forward to building the kit!

Don't sell, buy! :p

I must admit the SM Flyer is growing on me. It's cute. I can see why some people hate it, but I think it's a nice little design and I can imagine it hovering overhead before firing at you. I see it moving similarly to the gunships on Uncharted 2.

Too many games and I just haven't played 40k in over a year and a half now. Most of my friends have moved on to more small scale skirmish games that are quicker and easier to play/collect. Only problem is I don't know if I will be able to sell since my Orks and IG are both very large and to ship them anywhere is going to be hell, especially ork stuff with all the fragile little pointy bits. Just gonna post them on a local board to see if anyone is interested in buying the lots.

They also take up lots of space so trying to stick to the games that I actually have been getting play time with like Infinity, Dust, Warmachine/Hordes.

IPad stuff looks amazing. I'm all over it if the price is right.

Oh dear, this is GW we're talking about. £25 per codex. It is very nicely done but I don't think they should charge more than the cost of a physical copy. I guess it'll seem more reasonable when they start putting out the inevitable hardback codices and the price bump that comes with them.

I bought a big box with tons of these models, and they were super fun to paint; but i know NOBODY in real life to try out to play the actual game. And the hobby shops are filled with super dorky guys or young teens, and I dont want to be a 30yo spending saturdays afternoon playing board games with kids :(

Your best bet is to try to locate a wargaming club in your area, you'll probably find like-minded people there (lots of people aren't keen on playing in shops). If you're into Warhammer, maybe ask around on sites like WarSeer or The Warhammer Forum.

What would you guys say is the best spaceship miniatures game out there at the moment? Thinking about giving one a go...

BFG is good but support for it is garbage. Firestorm Armada is ok, I think theres alot of negativity towards Spartan Games though since there rules constantly change and they are pretty simple/loose.

Personally my favorite used to be the older Starfleet Battles rules (which is still supported/played). Simple to play and great sim feeling to the game. The only issue with SFB is that it's so old that it's been added onto constantly with new content and it's overwhelming to get into at this point. Great game but seems tough to find players. The new Starfleet Battles under the Call to Arms brand uses the old mongoose CTA system which I never liked, but it's apparently selling very well as first couple waves sold out quick.

Not a big fanbase for space combat games right now though, I would imagine Firestorm Armada is one of the most common seen around now.

I grabbed the two new Orc and Goblin kits today, the Goblin Shaman and the Savage Orc Big Boss. I've filmed unboxings with final assembly spins in 720p and am currently uploading the first of them up to my youtube channel :)

The Goblin one should be uploaded sometime in the next hour, with the Savage Orc following shortly afterwards. Feel free to subscribe or anything :)

Thanks for your assistance BM!

I don't mind rules changing and new stuff being added to a game to be honest - it's nice to know the game creators care enough to do it, and as a player it also helps keep things fresh! :)

I've had a look at Firestorm Armada and apparently their version 2 rulebook is out very soon, so that might be a good time to get into it I reckon. Have to say I also love their miniatures! They're based in the UK as well so they get a thumbs up for that too :D

Edit - might get some of these so I can use my fleet in different games: http://corseceng.com/omni-stand/

If I still played Orcs and Goblins I'd be all over that Savage Orc!

Yeah, it's a lot nicer in 3D than it is in the pages of White Dwarf, that's for sure. I don't collect O'n'G myself, but I wanted to paint up the two new models because I think they're really cool. I have no issues buying a model for an army I don't collect if its gonna be a rewarding paint job :) Although it often results in me wanting to THEN collect the army since I have a painted model started.

The one thing thats nice about Spartan games is that the rule changes and revisions are always placed online so you don't need to buy every new version of the rulebooks they put out.

Second teaser for Warhammer 40k 6th edition.

Rulebook is £45/$74.25
Psychic Powers £8/$13.25

I guess this means the rumours about psychic powers getting a big overhaul are true.

Sounds like everything is getting a big overhaul. Random psychics and my eldar don't feel like they would go together too well, but I guess I should wait until I see the rules myself before condemning anything.

Couldn't say for sure but it does sound like they are making psychics more like Fantasy's magic. One element they are definitely borrowing from fantasy is the random charge lengths.

The allies thing sounds like it could be abused horribly, but again I really shouldn't judge until I see the actual rules. The addition of purchasable terrain pieces for each army explains the absolutely massive price hike that the terrain models got recently.

If it's anything like the allies system in Fantasy it'll be only for games with multiple players per side (i.e. you can't mix armies in your own army). Is there a big summary of the rumoured rules anywhere?

Good to see them expanding the psychics stuff, should be interesting.

You're a big guy.
Warseer's rumour forums are the best place for them.

Allies will likely function similarly to in WFB - in the book but largely ignored. That said, 40k could have some very interesting and characterful combinations of forces. I'm feverishly painting up my Ulthwe force in preparation.

Just stopped in a my local game store. He was told he is getting all the new 40k stuff (core rules / psy card decks, and a couple other things) next Saturday the 30th. Well he will get it before then but the street date is the 30th. So I put down money for the rules and the cards. Can't wait to see what is real and what was just rumors.

There's some new WD scans on DakkaDakka.

There's three editions of the Rulebook (Regular, Collectors, Gamers). New nice sets, new skull-shaped tape measure, new fancy templates, psycher card set... buncha stuff like that.

You're a big guy.
Hype is really setting in for this one.

Psychic powers could be excellent, though I do find it somewhat strange that Eldar only get two of the psychic disciplines.

Are they going to release 6th ed in digital as well?

Might not be actively playing, but would like to have and learn it while away.

Well, they haven't even officially announced the release of 6th yet so we can't say for certain, but I would guess that they would almost certainly release a digital copy of it since they're going all in on all things digital and have just hired a big firm to handle that side of things for them. The real question would be when they would bring it out. If they were to release it the same day I wouldn't have thought they would make it much cheaper than the physical copy so they don't cannabalise its sales, but then again who would be willing to spend £45 on a digital version?

Slightly more meaty third teaser with some very nice new artwork and few bits of old artwork that for some reason they've had coloured.

I ordered the Gamers Edition with the leather bag and dice set. Apparently I can collect them instore on the 30th. My local GW is also doing a midnight event to get the book, basically arrive at 6-ish for some evening gaming and hang around until midnight. I'm tempted to go but there won't be any busses running home so I'm not sure what I'd do after i got the book XD

Already pre-ordered my standard rulebook and have it paid for at my FLGS and can't wait for the next 6 days to pass to hold this baby in my grubby paws. I recently got the WHFB Rulebook so I've got some new stuff to read in that department (as well as several dozen unread WH40k & WHFB novels).

Probably going to skip on this edition of 40k for now, haven't played in so long and still looking to sell one of my big armies that's been collecting dust. I just not a fan of the insane price of the rulebook. If a cheaper alternate for the rulebook comes out, I will look into it, but hearing that the box set with mini rules will probably be Marines vs. Chaos.... meh.

Anyways has anyone jumped in on Sedition Wars? It's a mini game that's on kickstarter now and currently at the $100 pledge you are getting over 82 miniatures plus all the other game components in a two player box set: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabaster

Studio Mcvey puts out good miniatures, rules are up in the air but video gives you a break down of aspects. But it's a heck of a deal especially when you compare it to GW who wants $75 for just rules, yet you get 82 minis, plastic tokens, rules, and tons of other stuff to play the game with in one package for $100. Even the cheaper kickstarter option gives you a good deal.

Dude, this is the story of my life. Why do all my hobbies require other people? Whyyyyyy??

Really cool Kickstarter making a set of Resin tabletop Dwarves. Already backed and into the cool Epic stretch goals.

Reading finally some of the stuff on final 6th edition rules... meh. I hate the idea of random charge ranges, and seeing that put in 6th is a huge turn off. Lot of little things which I think sound good, but 6E doesn't seem like the revamp that it could have been. Lot of huge ideas in the original playtest stuff that I would have loved to see them do to completely reinvigorate this franchise.

Also I really recommend checking out the Sedition Wars kickstarter, only 5 hours to go and they have added even more cool figs tossed into the $100 purchase. http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/coolminiornot/sedition-wars-battle-for-alabaster?ref=history

Get in on that! That's a ton of miniatures for the price, and if they get high enough another big fig is being tossed in free.

Yup biggest kickstarter success for a "board game" (don't know why they keep saying that). They don't have it on the kickstarter, but was emailed to the backers that if they got over 924k, another big fig was gonna be released along with all biohazard pledges.

*edit: it's on the updates section of the kickstarter page, just not on the front page. Exo suit Barker
