Tuesday’s United States-Japan World Baseball Classic semifinal had a 0.9 final rating and 1.4 million viewers on MLB Network, up 80% in ratings and 72% in viewership from Dominican Republic-Netherlands in 2013 (0.5, 843K) but down 53% and 48% respectively from Japan-United States in 2009, which aired on ESPN in its Sunday Night Baseball window (1.9, 2.8M).

The U.S. win delivered the largest audience in MLB Network history outside of the MLB Postseason, topping the previous high of 977,000 for the team’s loss to the Dominican Republic during this year’s group play. Including the MLB Postseason, it ranks seventh all-time on MLB Network (dates back to 2009).

Head-to-head, U.S.-Japan topped both games of an NBA doubleheader on ESPN, Bulls-Raptors (0.7, 1.1M) and Spurs-T’Wolves (0.8, 1.2M). It also topped both NBA games in adults 18-49 (0.52 to 0.40/0.49).

The positive momentum is not limited to U.S. games. The other semifinal, Puerto Rico-Netherlands on Monday night, pulled a 0.4 and 651,000 — up a tick and 34% respectively from Puerto Rico-Japan in 2013 (0.3, 485K).

Ratings were good for us vs japan. Highest rated non playoff in MLB network history. But more impressive, it beat two nba games on espn also.

Been watching the Puerto Rican homecoming parade for the wbc players, it has been great, even under drizzling rain. Thousands lining the streets, overpasses, etc.

The players are on a double decker sightseeing bus, and Yadier Molina has been catching everything that has been thrown at them for autographs, from shirts right off the persons back, to notebooks, to pots and pans!

Haha, they threw two boxes of dominos pizza up to them since the caravan is taking so long to get to the final party area. The players instantly wolfed them down.
Now shoes, boxing gloves, boxes of donuts, lol random stuff.
Too bad not everyone could make the trip because of mlb/team commitments. The manager was/is pissed.

A's fans love to hate on the fair-weather nature of visitors to AT&T Park, but it appears the Coliseum gates are wide open for anyone willing to abandon Giants loyalty.

Earlier this week the A's announced a spirit week complete with a mural unveiling and an Oakland City Hall flag raising, among other promotions. But each event comes with a special offer: Fans can trade in a San Francisco Giants lid for a new A's cap, no questions asked.

The promotion is part of a new Rooted In Oakland campaign rolled out by the team, which also features the takeover of several Muni stop shelters. The bus stop above the Powell Street BART Station - which is visible from the SF Gate offices - even features a massive A's cap atop the structure.

Despite the bridge-crossing nature of the initiative, the A's insist that the program is more about celebrating Oakland than trying to peel away San Francisco fans.

Just heard that the cardinals fined yadier 100,000 for not reporting to the team. He said F it and came to celebrate. He also had a few words for Adam Jones.

I hope Diaz got permission from the mariners, since he still doesn't have the bank account to take such a fine.

Think Russia, but amped up to 12.

At least, from those I have talked to that were there. Drinking is extremely common place as a social activity, and it doesn't help that DUI sentences are weak as shit.

It should be noted that in the light of two recent drunk driving deaths in Oscar Tavares and Jose Fernandez (in the case of the latter, it's DUI but we'll count it) the ball is in MLB's court to try and send a message to Kang. Especially considering he has had two confirmed DUI convictions, and possibly a third one too, and doesn't seem to want to change.
